PS4 and Xbox Rumours

You can play used games on both of the current iterations and most likely they will both allow used games on the new iterations.

Obviously be prepared to pay for online passes for some 2nd hand online games, but that is already the case today.

I flat out refuse to pay for them, in the case of EA, Ubisoft etc. (even Sony first party) I'll buy used or rent because of those ******** passes, and I used to always buy new. Not that it matters anyway, the industry is saturated with sucky multiplayer.

Sounds entirely plausible but I don't know why only snippets of the Durango XDK documentation are being leaked. If it was me, I'd be tempted to spill on the whole affair. :D Luckily for MS, I am not a developer. :D

It sounds like everything's going against MS this gen from a core gamer's perspective "Always online DRM", "No Second Hand Games" & DDR 3 Ram (Which i'm told it would be too late to upgrade to DDR5 ram at this point), bundling Kinect etc etc. The leaks for the PS4 were pretty accurate, lets hope its a different story for the 720.

"Always online DRM", "No Second Hand Games"

To be fair there is no concrete evidence about that yet. The always online connection doesn't seem to be mandatory according to that leaked doc - it will just use your connection to provide seamless updates when in standby if you leave it plugged in and connected to the net.

Agreed I am taking all this with a pinch of salt until I hear something definite from MS. I like what I've heard from Sony so far and will be definitely getting a PS4 at some point (though maybe not at launch, unsure yet). The Sony leaks were pretty accurate but that doesn't mean to say the MS ones are!

Just have to wait and see...

Imo PS4 seems to be generating the same interest among gamers which PS1 & PS2 did
Whilst PS3 remained more or less in obscurity compared to PS2, PS4 to me seems to be the new PS2 :)

All the leaks about the PS4 were true, why would the ones about the next Xbox all be false?

Just including Kinect in the box means the cost is going to be really high, or the spec of the machine would have to be lowered, similar to how the Wii U spec is lower than it could have been due to having to include the Gamepad.

with the supposed specs being a 1.6ghz 8core amd chip and 8 gig ddre and a ati gpu its similar to the ps4. but adding the updated kinect thats got to be another £50 on top even at cost when it first ship's.

got a feeling ms will be having huge losses again to sell units.

Not bothered about having to play the games from the hard drive but will it tie in with a ban on second hand games? They could make it so that after the initial install the disk won't register/install on any other console, or it could just be taken at face value and we could assume it has nothing to do with second hand games whatsoever.

I wouldn't like to be forced into being online all the time though.

The only good thing to have from that is a nice silent machine, but imagine going out, buying a nice shiny new game then having to wait for 30-60 mins or more for it to install :o

I believe the leak says the game will start before the full install is finished so you wont need to wait that long. Also unless the game is huge it won't take anywhere near that time to install.

I'm waiting to see what MS are going to do with their next gen console, but unless it's equal to or better than the PS4 I'll be giving Sony my money (and boy as a company the certainly need it :D).

I won't believe any of it until things are confirmed by MS.

And on costs, what's to say they aren't adopting the £99 and then three year model (estimate on price/timescale) that was talked about. That would be a massive shift.

The whole second hand debate may yet errupt.

Others have pointed out that Sony too have taken out patents that prevent used game sales, but yet seemingly aren't using them. When asked about it they said they wouldn't be preventing second hand sales.

Does that mean in fact they are putting the hardware in the PS4 / NeXtbox and leaving it to the publishers to use it ?

Or are microsoft going to do the same thing and then take out a patent and not use it.

Only time will tell.
