PS4 and Xbox Rumours

I'm edging closer and closer to only getting the ps4. In now way will I buy a console that blocks second hand games unless they sell for £25 which we all know they won't.

The whole second hand debate may yet errupt.

Last year the EU passed a law that stops publishers from blocking 2nd hand sales and given the EU is very anti microsoft and loves throwing fines at them think its fairly safe to say if the nextbox is being released in EU then there will be nothing that blocks 2nd hand games

the eu 2nd hand thing is rumbling on with steam at the mo. depending what the outcome is with that could be interesting.

with the supposed specs being a 1.6ghz 8core amd chip and 8 gig ddre and a ati gpu its similar to the ps4. but adding the updated kinect thats got to be another £50 on top even at cost when it first ship's.

got a feeling ms will be having huge losses again to sell units.

The PS4 comes with the updated eye camera which is gonna be very similar to kinnect.

I bet they both launch at the same cost.

i was under the impression the ps4's eye dodah was a optional extra, not mandatory. if it is i guess thats a cost for both of them to swollow. of charge £50 extra.

as for the same price wouldnt be surprised. still say £300-£350 is what we'l be looking at.

The PS4 cameras have to come part of the system. As an optional extra just means no support like the PS3 move.

At least Nintendo get it right by making stuff mandatory, so the developers know everyone has it.

I would imagine it is bundled otherwise they would have made a separate accessory to use with it instead of wasting time and money integrating compatibility for it in the DualShock 4.

Technical question that I dont know the answer to for sure but the way I thought about this (for right or wrong)

1) Tech built into DS4 is "basic" 3d spacial awareness stuff (needs to be accurate, but doesnt need to be high quality as such - from what Ive heard)

2) Additional Eyetoy hardware , or possibly just software depending on what is built into PS4 console, for more cam to cam stuff (hd quality, plus maybe mic's etc)

This could potentially keep the console price down, while giving Sony options at a later date (ie all the tech could be built in, but those who want option 2) pay an additional fee to get HD abilities enabled).

Im not that familiar with kinnect or eyetoy so if the above wont work then fair enough, just what I was thinking in regards ot keeping costs down while also getting the most back for Sony without alienating all those that dont want to pay for something they dont want - like BR on PS3 for eg, more expensive maybe, but similar also).

What are Microsoft up to? If the Xbox ends up being less powerful than the PS4 and announced and possibly released later, it better be a whole lot cheaper, but with Kinect 2.0 in every box I can't see how that would be possible.

Pushing back an announcement? Guess they are making some last minute spec changes - surely thats got to mean an delayed launch? Hate to be MS right now, everything theyll end up doing will be interpreted as a compromise...

You just know those smarmy Xbox execs are not going to let Sony get one up on them. But I have no idea what they can do to better the PS4 at this point.

who's paul thurrott ?

as for putting it back that could be a few issues.

1. a redesign, and upping of power, guessing slightly faster cpu and ddr5 to match the ps4 specs.

2. issues at the fab making the actual console.

3. wanting to have a console to show unlike the ps4 event with no actual physical box on show.

An announcement MS have never said they are going to make?

If there actually has been a delay in the announcement I doubt it has anything to do with spec. At this stage in development about the only thing they could change is the amount of memory and you don't have to show it to announce it. Therefore it would probably be down to some licencing, software delay or they are going to surprise everyone with a release way ahead of Sony.

I don't think the 2nd hand game lock will come in. They will go the in app purchase route and take extra revenue that way. The next call of duty, they will sell double XP, weapons extra as in game purchases.

I was pretty shocked when Gears of War now has 100 matches of double XP for 800 points. It's going to be the bane of gaming for some time to come sadly. Games will be come a total grind or near impossible unless you buy in game purchases.

Gaming has been too cheap for years, this will be the way they claw back some ground.

Maybe delaying to not give Sony chance to alter their specs, if the Xbox is superior, although unlikely.

One thing concerning me regarding the next gen, is multiplatform games. For example Watch Dogs is going to be released on the Wii U / Xbox 360 / PS3 / PC / PS4 / NextBox, surely the quality will suffer being spread so thin. Cant help but think if it was exclusive to one system and all resources pulled into one how much better the content, quality and how bug free it would be.

And with it being released on the last gen, gameplay and content will be limited to the lowest comman dominator. So in essence we will have a last gen game with slightly improved graphics for the PS4/PC/Nextbox.
