PS4 and Xbox Rumours

There have been so many leaks and hints about this from so many sources now that surely there cant be this much smoke without fire?

It wouldnt stop me from buying the new xbox but it would probably make me get more multiplatform games on the PS4 just incase for whatever reason web does go off.

Im used to always on requirements so im not too fussed but i think for certain countries its not viable and i think its a total screw over by MS

By the looks of it though, the DualShock 4 is more ergonomic and looks like the shape of the 360 pad. Unless you mean the difference in stick layout?

Yeah it's the location of the sticks I dislike, also I hope the dead zones are smaller.

if the PS4 is £300 @ launch i will get one, as I do not seeing it dropping in price within a year. if the PS4 is £399, i will wait 6-12 months for a decent deal to pop up or a price drop to happen.

but a lot of it will depend on how good the new PSN is and how they have managed to integrate voice communication into the system rather than an afterthought.

the main advantages the 360 had was initial launch, cheaper price and better voice communication integration. the main advantages of the ps3 was free online gaming, reliability and blu-ray.

apparently all of these are going to be fixed with the ps4, therefore xbox really need to up their game if they want to beat sony this time round, especially in terms of reliability, they need to offer a 3 year warranty like last time around at least imo. they again will also need to launch cheaper as they are going to be second to bat, therefore greater incentive is needed. if people really believe the ps4 is going to launch at £300, then the next xbox console will need to be £250 at launch in order to gain the lost ground of a later launch imo.

but i believe it will be £399 and possibly £349 for the new xbox, due to kinect integration.

I guess we need to understand what it always on internet actually means before jumping to conclusions. It could work like Steam which after a while came more flexible for offline gaming, or it could just be as bad as the dreaded Ubisoft uPlay system .

This, it may simply be a one off activation that is required or a similar system to steam. Will just have to wait till MS make thier announcement before writing a system off.

I guess theres near-zero chance (cant see how MS would even think about this without that assurance) the authentication servers will gone down under demand like EA/Ubis has in the past, so with that assumption it does seem the biggest issue is on our end with our own internet connections (and thats not even considering speed, just quality of connection).

Would it be fair to say MS has a much better infrastructure and server capacity compared to say EA/UBS? maybe if this is the path they are choosing they are confident there infrastructure will hold up. A lot of their products are going cloud/online too so wouldn’t be too surprised if it was the case again.

Really hard not to feel that its just another way to double-pay for just wanting to play games online, lets hope its not triple-pay with chargeable XBL, though surely the requirement to be 'always on' means they cant do that surely?!? That would be a real slap in the face...

It really depends on how they implement it. For example they could sell the NextBox dirt cheap say £100, require a constant online connection with gold to play games. That’s £50/yr x console lifespan of 8years = potential £100 + £400 = £500. Then receive all their royalties on top of that making them money.

If they offered the NextBox dirt cheap, can see myself getting one and others too thinking they would have signed up to Gold anyway. In affect they would be getting £500 form the consumer compared to £400 Sony will get for exactly the same service. Plus with pretty much guaranteed little piracy it’s a win/win.

But like you said all is just speculation and we will have to wait till MS announce.

I would be astonished if MS sold it very cheap, hell that would be a great invitation to hackers/pirates to find a workaround when they know being caught and paying for a replacement console is so relatively cheap...

Can MS really still expect to charge for a similar service as XBL Gold for the nextbox? Actually perhaps the question should be, would you pay again for access to online console gaming if it was such a similar offering? Never really entered my head that that answer could still be 'yes' tbqh

ps3ud0

It’s quite a similar offering as it stands and millions cough up for the privilege to use it, so can’t be that far of a stretch of an imagination seeing people doing it again. Barring cross party chat of course but i hardly think people pay for gold for that. It comes down to if you want the privilege to play the halos and gears of this world. Can’t see MS dropping their gold service next gen, even with Sony’s advancement in online services.

looks like sonys after stealing a bit more of a march on ms.

Good news for those looking forward to Sony's next console: it looks like you won't have to wait until E3 for the next big PlayStation 4 presentation. Rumour has it, courtesy of PCMag, that Sony intend to make a 'big announcement' concerning the PlayStation 4 this April/May:

"GDC was probably the last big stage for the company to talk up the successor to the PlayStation 3 before the E3 gaming conference in June, unless Sony manufactures its own event. That's precisely what Sony plans to do, according to the source, who said late April/early May will be the likeliest timeframe for a full-blown launch of the PS4."

From Gizmodo

Developers close to Microsoft have claimed the next-gen console’s hardware is currently being tweaked, as hardware boffins work to “align” the new home machine with the power offered by Sony’s recently revealed PlayStation4.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Ubisoft Montreal CEO Yannis Mallat said the new home Xbox will be “aligned with what Sony announced” in terms of hardware power, also adding: “It’s going to be connected. It’s going to be social. It’s going to be immersive. It’s going to be interactive.”

Meanwhile, Kotaku, the US aggregator of anything games related or from or even near Japan, says its sources claim the next-generation Xbox controller is virtually unchanged from the Xbox 360 device, perhaps only offering refined curves and a slightly smaller footprint. No sign of any second screen or touchpad on this one.

I just can't wait for the official reveal about the next Xbox.

This. Although tempting to read 30 pages of comments on various rumours of the next xbox better to wait to see what Microsoft officially say. Not "A microsoft insider has said...." etc.

Also, I'd be so much more in favour of a ps4 if someone gets out some xbox controller adapters for it smart (inb4 people tell me its a more comfortable controller even though I have both.)

Corrected :p

You haven't even used a PS4 controller yet, at least give it a chance before writing it off.

The 360 controller is awesome for comfort, but I've never come across a *worse* d-pad. It's so poor. How they could have got everything else so perfect and then failed so hard with the d-pad is a mystery.

I've not used the DS3, but the PS2 controller wasn't ever uncomfortable. Just not as awesome as the 360 pad.

I never get the dislike for the 360 D pad. In 7 years I've never felt the need to use it apart from games like gears where it used to be used for changing weapons. It's only ever select up down left or right and works 100%.

Who cares about D pads anymore?

What a stupid argument! "I don't use it much so I think it's fine".

It is the primary input method for fighting games and most arcade games/platformers, and the old (non-transformer) version was shockingly bad!
