PS4 and Xbox Rumours

Shops don't get test units. If they want an in store demo they contact head office who send the Microsoft rep over. The demo units are just retail units sat in a fancy enclosure and taken from stock.
You MIGHT see demo units in stores a couple of days before release.

Your mate is talking out of his bum. The only way that this could be true is if the release was next month. It isn't.
If it was next month the internet would be full of box photos taken from distribution hubs. Since nobody has even seen the console yet, let along boxes sat in warehouses I am fairly confident a launch is a few months away yet.

yeah they wont get anything until they get stock in the store, when i worked at currys sony didnt send us any demo kits for the ps 2 or 3 and neither did ms. you could order a pod to put them in, but the stock came from your own shop stock.

your mates talking rubbish or has miss heard something.

the simple fact is both consoles are due "holiday 2013" so that's going to be the end of novermber for any stock showing up. maybe even the start of december. and thats IF they even release them here this year.

Most people won't pre-order, then either pay £600 on the bay or have to wait till March

I just want to know how long these will last before the RROD lol

I doubt you'll see any.

The overheating thing cost them a ton of money at the time. I've still got my black 120gb elite 4 years on that hasn't broken a sweat. They've long since sorted that issue.

I have an Original 7+ year old core 360 (Xenon) still running sweet here
That said I did upgrade the cooling when I jtag'ed it many years back :p

Anyone give me a run down on the xbox rumours, specs, release dates, unveil etc.

I'm hopping its win8 in a console and improves on its HTPC/media credentials. Use it more as a media centre than gaming and xbox360 has some limitations.

I really don't see it using Win8 at all myself, they didn't use any sort of iteration of Windows with their previous consoles so I can't see why they'd start now. They'd be reliant on the Windows team for security updates, features etc whereas with their own software, they can do as they please.

I doubt it would be full blowen windows. But I do hope and would be somewhat surprised if it wasn't essentially windows.
mS whole ethos with w8 Wrt wp8 is that they are all essentially the same and thus code for software can easily be used between all of them. It would make no sense making developers program yet another app. I expect it to share all the essential w8 libraries and core.

Blue/8.1 will further reduce the difference between the platforms.

Xbox around 60% as powerful as the PS4, running a similar/same Jaguar 8 core CPU, an AMD 7790 based GPU. Using 8GB DDR3 in tandem with ESRAM, with a significant amount of resources tied up to the OS/Kinect2.

More than likely running a cut down version of Win8. Possible subscription / subsidized console, with non-subsidized console coming in at $500. Controller pretty much unchanged with better latency.

Should release this year, but apparently MS struggling with 1st party development and resorting to throwing money at 3rd party exclusives

I can see this too. I mean, the Windows 8 Store already has apps that are prime candidates to be used on the living room TV, just look at Plex for example. It would really help Microsoft's market share for WP8 and RT if the apps are universal and can be deployed to multiple families of devices.
