PS4 and Xbox Rumours

Hmmm, Im not sure how Forzas record function works, though I expect it record game data (so basically the position/states of the game entities and how they change over game time) than record the actual video feed to rewind. Makes it a far eloquent way to effectively record gameplay (loved that about Quake 3) and you just use the game engine to reconstruct the scene on the fly. Though there are lazy developers (looking at you EA and FIFA replays  ) who just make replays using rendered video in game...

Id be surprised if the console OS has that level of access to the game engine to do the same (if it did, why cant we do it in Windows already?), so I cant see how it wont record gameplay FRAPS style - but hey be nice to find out how they achieve it in the end.

They will have a dedicated hardware encoder.

Sounds like the hard disk is going to get a thrashing either way. Installing the game from Blu-ray, playing the game from the HDD whilst it installs and recording gameplay all simultaneously. Those heads are going to be a-movin'.

30 seconds of video is 10's of MB at very high quality. It will be stored in the RAM.

The Sony share thing I assumed would just work like the rewind feature in Forza which does not seem to impact the performance? So we do kind of have such a thing now.

All that's doing is reversing what's happened in the game.

You can export video in Forza Horizon, but it's got length limitation and it takes forever for the console to render and upload it. If they want it to be instant on the next-gen consoles, it'll probably be capturing footage on the fly.

The Sony share thing has dedicated hardware for doing that. Are you just forgetful?
Not really, still needs additional RAM to do it, which was my original point after all. It may have the hardware to do it, but it needs to be stored somewhere in RAM while it does it. Bless...

so the OS is given 1 GB RAM to use out of 8GB so roughly 12-13% of the RAM.

how much CPU power will be diverted to the OS? maybe this is why it has so many cores in the first place to prevent background apps and the OS from effecting gameplay.

plus it has a secondary CPU/ custom chip

Next Xbox could be called Infinity according to this article.
Sonic the Hedgehog is making a return this year it seems, according to a leak by a known Sonic tiptser. The 3D game is currently codenamed ‘Sonic Excursion’ and will release in November for current and next-gen formats.
NeoGAF cited a source called Wentos on SegaBits who has supposedly leaked accurate information on every Sonic game since Unleashed. While the person has a long track record, please do treat the below as rumour for now.

The source stated that the game will launch in November for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, 3DS and PlayStation 4.

Interestingly, the source adds that the game is also coming out on “Xbox Infinite”. Could this be the name of Microsoft’s new rig after all?

It's not the first time this rumour has sprung up.
Although it will knacker MS if they wanna bring out another console. What will they call it? Infinity+1?

how will it knacker them?

all they need to do is change the naming system, to something else, like greek gods for example.

look at nintendo, their consoles never followed a numerical system throughout their whole range, neither did sega's.

the playstation also at some point will need to change it's naming system also, as i think playstation on it's own would be much better. much like apple do with their range now. their is no need for numbering system's people with any brains know what the latest console is by looking at it surely.

Would PS4 come in different SKU models? I hope its not the same case as it was with PS3, where later models were more power efficient. I would rather all the features including power efficiency were already ingrained in a single model.

Well technology advances, are you saying you wouldn't want them to include the latest manufacturing advances in the later revisions? That's ridiculous

Indeed, I dont want to see improvements with regards to spec, as that would be silly. But power management and efficiency. Well those are a given as a console matures, and the manufacturing process matures.
