PS4 and Xbox Rumours

I can see this too. I mean, the Windows 8 Store already has apps that are prime candidates to be used on the living room TV, just look at Plex for example. It would really help Microsoft's market share for WP8 and RT if the apps are universal and can be deployed to multiple families of devices.

I'd be suprirsed if microsoft do something this intuitive.

We'll wait and see however.

I'm waiting to see if they're getting RARE working on a decent game or if they're just letting their talent go to waste again.

They are bound to have a few surprises up their sleeves, plenty of cash and some good studios should see something decent coming from them.

Killer Instinct :D*

* As much as I absolutely loved the first game on the SNES, I'm not buying an Xbox just for that

This is their entire direction. Wp8 shares most of w8s kernel and following updates merge them even further.

Never disputed that.

Was more referencing the comment about having every app available on windows 8 store automatically working on the new xbox.

It would be so cool if that were the case. But microsoft never seem to do things like that. Knowing microsoft it will be a different code base and you'll need to write your apps separately.

With the amount of money MS have you can bet your left nut, they haven’t been sat idly on their hands, that’s for sure.

Hoping to see new IP's at their presentation.

Whilst being very happy with the PS4 hardware, the 1st party games on show didn’t really excite me much. Killzone, been done to death and the last 2 were 6/10 games. Infamous on ps3 was boring, didn’t really see anything but CG at the demo, Knack not my cup of tea. Only thing that got my attention tbh was Deep Down (not sure if real) and Destiny.

Hope Sony have held some games back for E3.

Similar to how universal apps on iOS work, a separate user interface for the iPad is all that's needed usually to adapt an existing app, I can see how separate interfaces can be bundled together into the same app on the Windows 8 Store.

It's not just the IPs (or a lack of new ones), it's the first party developers that Sony have at their disposal. You can bet your right nut that they'll fully exploit the hardware capabilities of the PS4 by developing exclusively for it, just like they have for the PS3 this generation. Just the other day I was amazed at how well optimised Twisted Metal is on it, albeit the game has serious gameplay flaws but from a technical POV (and as a computer science student) I was quite impressed by its performance.

No doubt, just what was shown on the presentation was lacklustre. Confident though when the big guns like Santa Monica and Noughty Dog reveal what they are working on, things should get interesting,

sorry if this has been mentioned already ....but was just on the official playstation mag site and they have a story on the ps4 called The complete PS4 guide – the specs, controller camera, game streaming & more explained....

theres one bit in it that made me laugh my socks off :-

" 8GB of GDDR5 RAM, 16 times that of the PS3’s equivalent, and on a par with £1,000+ PC graphics cards. It’s a payload that doesn’t just rise above most current technology – it overshadows it. For reference, rumour has it that the impressive looking Killzone: Shadow Fall was only using 1.5GB of RAM for graphics."

they are comparing system ram to ram of a highend graphics card ........lol

No they arent they are comparing the PS4s RAM (which is used for everything) to things like Titans that have 6Gb of GDDR5 which is kinda apt. Someone find that Picard pic...

ps3ud0

Hmm, It also specifies that 1.5gb is being used for graphics, well its shared GDDR5...How can they differentiate with regards to what the memory is being used for.

I mean personally, I do see the PS4 being quite the power house due to a big spec, baremetal coding and the static build. But I really wish people would stop comparing it directly to a PC!!!

Its oranges and tangerines! lol.

Yeah fair enough, both are essentially computers. but they are different beasts!!

erm.. yes they are.

comparing 8 gb of ps4 system ram to 8 gb of high end graphics isnt fair .. teh ps4 will sell in its millions so costs of producing it will be miles cheaper than that of the top speced pc card when its out

bulk buying / making of said ps4 ram will be cheaper ...

anyway ....i'm all over it like a cheap suit regardless :p

The PS4 uses 8GB of unified GDDR5 RAM. That is, memory that is shared and can be accessed directly by both the CPU and GPU. Not even TOTR gaming PCs have that, where GPU VRAM is completely separate from system RAM and is limited by the bus speed of the motherboard.

Quite easily, the same way your PC can tell you how much RAM is being used by onboard graphics cards or individual applications/processes.

Well yeah I know that its completely possible on PC, but do you think people are being given access to that sort of system information on PS4? I mean I suppose i could see a memory capacity guide, where it shows a total in use, but I highly doubt it will differentiate between graphical\general data.
