PS5 Noises

If you have to mute your TV to hear the console then it’s quiet, you could hear the PS4 pro easily over TV audio.

As for no next gen games, the XSX launched with no new first party games, the PS5 launched with multiple first party games.

Sure you can claim they don’t count because one’s a remaster, 2 are cross gen and one is a pack in, but that’s your choice.

First party... he was referring to "next-gen". Are we moving the goalposts here?

And what does games have to do with the fan noise? This is all very weirdly defensive, all because i've pointed out that the series X is quieter.

The series X is one of the quietest devices I've ever owned. And that's whilst playing Forza Horizon 4, which is easily one of the best games I've ever seen for graphics. Can't be a surprise for people when you compare the two designs though...

Even if it is quieter, the PS5 isn’t loud, like I said if I can only hear my PS5 when the TV is muted does it matter if the series X is even quieter?

No, the PS5 is very similar and not at all a problem, just a little disappointing that it's audible when it's such a big design.

I've never said it was a problem, just that it is the louder of the two.

I only commented to Noxia's post as he said it wasn't silent and I argued that the Series X was pretty much silent in reality, much like you are saying the PS5 isn't loud as you can't hear it over the tv.

It's just a version of my dad's better than your dad for grown ups/idiots.

That's not strictly true. My PS5 I can hear faintly while playing, the Series X I cannot at all. I'd rather not be able to hear anything (as most would), so that's an advantage, albeit a very minor one.

It's not a "taking sides" thing. If we were talking about controllers I would happily say that I'd rather play with the Dualsense rather than the Xbox controller as the triggers and haptics are genuinely more involving.

I’m not a fan boy I have both consoles and my ps5 is much louder than my series X, Cold War on series X from 2-3 feet away is barely audible

Ok, try this:

I've boosted the gain via audacity to make it a reasonable level, you can hear the fan noise which isn't an issue, it's the coil whine you can hear changing/cutting in and out when going through menus/loading screens/in game.

This is in BL3.

I'll do a more detail recording once I've finished work for the day, grabbed this while at lunch.

The coil whine is clearly audible in a quiet room, even with open back headphones on in quiet moments in game. My PS5 is behind a monitor, about 4-5ft away, on my desk.

It's proving hard to get the couple of mics I have to pick up the sound, they're obviously not as sensitive as the human ear.

Just listened to that audio.

First thing - That fan whine I can hear that just like on mine behind your coil whine. Must be the fan at that speed.
Maybe the noise of my fan is normal then - Could hear it clear as day in your recording like I was sat next to mine.

My PS5 has a bit of coil whine, but not like yours, mine is quite a bit quieter. I hear the fan whine noise over the coil whine.
Edit just seen that you can hear it 5ft away. Does it buzz on the home screen?

Yep, even in rest mode when downloading stuff - in fact it's just started downloading an update now, I know because I heard it 'turn on' into rest mode downloading mode. :(

The coil whine in rest mode/home screen is much quieter but still there, and more of a rhythmic 'hum' - but it's not the fan, I think. Edit: It is the fan, there's a whirring from the fan, along with the coil whine which is separate.

I am sat in a quiet home office with just an almost silent PC (only noise being the PSU fan, barely audible) and a laptop with a fan that occasionally ramps up, but I don't have to strain to hear it, even at the quietest.

I wonder what is the purpose of spinning disk when you are watching online media...suddenly hairdryer when watching in a silent room like every 20min for some reason. Nonsense

The whirring is what I was talking about. Sounds like a drone to me. I'll have to get used to that as it is normal by the sound of it.
It annoys me - but at least I know it is normal.

Out of question, if your PS5 on a power strip? Might be worth trying to plug it directly into the wall to see if it makes any difference - I have sometimes interference can cause whine.
