PS5 Noises

The whirring is what I was talking about. Sounds like a drone to me. I'll have to get used to that as it is normal by the sound of it.
It annoys me - but at least I know it is normal.

Out of question, if your PS5 on a power strip? Might be worth trying to plug it directly into the wall to see if it makes any difference - I have sometimes interference can cause whine.
Yeah the whirring is slightly annoying but the coil whine is much worse.

I'll try the console plugged into the wall directly, it is on a power strip.Good thing with remote play, no display needed!

I don't like high pitched noises - There is areason why my PC is watercooled lol!

Let us know how you get on. :)

No change plugged directly into a wall socket.

The noise is a little less intrusive in a bigger room, being cornered in between monitors/walls might be making it sound a little louder, so I've relocated it to under my desk, on top of my PC tower.

The coil whine is 100% coming from the PSU at the bottom, different games give a different sound. BL3 gives a higher frequency sound, Spiderman Remastered a lower frequency, and Hollow Knight, none at all.

Ok, so under the desk it's VASTLY less noticeable. If I didn't know what I was hearing, it would disappear into the white noise of a normal room, and certainly any volume at all would mask it.

I played cold war for a good hour of so while the bake off was on (Damn Mrs!) my setup is in the same room, and I didn't need sound so muted my TV. Well, apart from when adverts came on I actually couldn't hear my PS5 at all while playing, only unless I went with 3ft of it. I could hear the fan whine a bit, but I think I was being overally anal about it.

I thought It was something loose which is why I had the fan out of the unit - Or the side panels making noise. They definately do add to the noise, esp if the disk is spinning. Coil whine on my unit isn't as bad as yours, but sometimes when on a menu or something can hear the buzz over the fan noise.

Got to say though, in person the fan is a bit of kit - it is really cool to look at. I bet it can go loud if it wants to and pull at least 20w from the wall judging by the amp and voltage rating on it.

Just found this artical (It is in french):

https://www.lesnumeriques.com/conso...t-pas-dotees-du-meme-ventilateur-n157521.html

There are three different types of Fans. My Step Daughters has Fan A which is quieter with no high pitch to it.
Mine has Fan B which has a high pitch whine to it.

So two diffrent fan types like both the PS3 and PS4.

Good to know that i'm not going insane listening to noises which don't exist. :p

I'm not hearing a peep from my PS5.
Despite it being in a relatively low-height compartment in a cabinet (no obstruction front or back, so good flow of air) it simply doesn't make a sound.
I've had long, multiple hour sessions of Valhalla, Spider-Man, WD Legion and that thing is silent. I'm about 4m away from the console, maybe a little less.

However, I also have a console that I'm using wired network, external SSD and Rest Mode and I haven't had a single system crash, error or issue.
I've managed to crash AC Valhalla once, when the game allowed me to assassinate someone I was chasing, who was supposed to appear in the next scripted scene - otherwise, nothing.

First party... he was referring to "next-gen". Are we moving the goalposts here?

And what does games have to do with the fan noise? This is all very weirdly defensive, all because i've pointed out that the series X is quieter.
No you pointed out your x is quieter. I'd give up with the ps brand if was you because all the issues that are reported you seem to have. Full of poop springs to mind.

My PS5 is absolutely whisper quiet the only thing that’s particularly loud is the disc drive, but I’ve found most drives these days are loud. This does seem a bit OTT though!

Welcome to ps5, shame they’re having so many issues

As I said in a Reddit thread - exactly how many people are you seeing with issues?
Assuming a conservative estimate of 1.5m launch day/s consoles - are you seeing 10,000 people with problems? 5,0000 people with issues? We're into the .5% of player base here.

I dont have any more sound issues as I sold mine and will wait until I can get one locally so if there is issues i can just swap it out. There should be some better deals next year. I can wait

Exactly, same with everything mass produced on a huge scale, you will get a few bad apples. Speaking of apples I got a new ipad last week that won't charge, sometimes you are just unlucky. Get it changed and move on.

3mill, Sony sold 3 mill ps5 on day 1.

I wish more people had a ps5 though, I'm struggling to find people to summon in demon souls and after checking my friend list I noticed about 80% of them are still on PS4

Watched a Bluray today couldn't hear a thing from the player.
Lucky you.

My disc drives vibrates horribly and sounds awful, volume on TV was high just so I couldn't hear it.

Luckily rare it will be used! I have a disc game on pre order but hoping once games installed whilst I'll still need disc it will only spin up once to do it's checks and stops

Mine was making a very high pitch whine - I got a bit annoyed with it, took the side panel off - disc drive side.

Loosened the fan and the high pitch nise stopped. Screwed it back up, the high pitch noise was back. Odd. Must be some sort of resonance. with the side panel on it was worse as well. so I decided to get four small rubber grommets, and a further four small rubber mounts for the dust filter on top of the fan. Screwed them in with the softest rubber on the bottom -> fan -> dust filter. I have also placed a small thin bit on rubber on top of the fan filter so is has some dampening with the side panel.

Metal on metal contact can resonate - mine was definately that. My fan used to have a whone whenever it sped up or down, that is gone too. :) Sounds like it should now.

The high pitch noise is now gone! The system isn't whipser quiet by any means, but it isn't annoying in the room anymore.

defienetly some sort of defect some people got - I've had my ps5 for a couple weeks now and it's been great noise wise - I've got a router on a laptop cooling pad in the room and it's easily the loudest device in the room
