Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Yeah, it's going to stop at around that, they won't let it get much longer.
Presumably at some point (Sunday evening?) they will have to close the queue based on the expected time to get to the front, otherwise people will end up queuing and not getting there in time before she goes

They're going to close the queue to have it gone for monday, why would they turn people away before that.

I'm just going what was posted on the BBC site at 9.13am today.

The queue for the Queen's lying-in-state has topped 14 hours and is almost 4.9 miles long (7.8km).

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has warned that the queue is in Southwark Park and may soon be paused - it said in a tweet:

"If the park reaches capacity, entry to the queue will be paused.

"If you have not yet set off to join, please consider waiting until numbers have reduced."

Fair enough but the people coming to be in the queue aren't going to evaporate if they're told to clear off. They're already coming with expectations of waiting half a day or more.

Thus a much less organised queue for the queue will happen imo.

Just said on BBC News that Harry will be wearing a uniform on Monday at the King's request. Didn't hear whether Andrew will be.

EDIT: Got that wrong. The grandchildren are doing a vigil which is where Harry will wear his uniform.

Any guesstimates as to how many people are in a 5 mile long queue?

as a very rough guess, around 30,000. Impossible to say for sure, but it's got to be around 30-40k I'd say.

That's assuming two people are taking up a half meter squared area. Watching the live feed, people seem to be much closer together so could be 40k-50k

I'd love to know the total number of people though. What is it, four days of constant traffic? Two lines, so around 20 people past every 10 seconds.

This looks like the most condensed area in the queue

It literally doesn't make sense as most of the statements are wrong when applied to the UK.
Slow movement of the car, intensely choreographed, wailing presenters, passing to 3rd generation of family business, this year hasn’t been a good year for dictators, looking on is son who will take it on, people talking which doesn’t sound spontaneous, need blood descenders for legitimacy, no one knows what will happen to the country now.

Seems pretty accurate to me! I don’t think you know what literally means or what satire is…

Fair point. It may be even worse this way. Loads of people milling around Rotherhithe.

Slow movement of the car, intensely choreographed

Non issue, thats how funerals tend to go.

wailing presenters
I don't think I've seen a wailing presenter. I've seen many sombre ones though. There is a difference. Also it is a funeral, how else do you expect a funeral to go?

passing to 3rd generation of family business
I have no issues possessions being passed down to children, but I can see why this is upsetting to some

, this year hasn’t been a good year for dictators
I didn't realise that the UK was a dictatorship. you learn something new everyday

Stange you missed the part about the "weird reclusive figure who ran the world's most secretive country, and did it as if it was his own private property"?

looking on is son who will take it on
Extention of the inheritance bit

What about the bit of spending all the countries money on the crown?
people talking which doesn’t sound spontaneous
Vague statement and can be for any reason. If you want to think that all the people in the UK are actors who have been paid to say good things about the queen or act sad thats up to you.

need blood descenders for legitimacy
Yes that's how a monarchy works. congrats

no one knows what will happen to the country now
That tends to happen when something big happens in a country.

You missed the most important one about making myths about the monarchy; such as the queen scoring 11 hole in ones the first time she played golf, or how she invented the hamburger, or how she doesn't need to use the toilet because of her well calibrated body. (Yes these are all myths about NK leader.)

I've just been timing how many people walk past within 10 seconds. It roughly matches the figures regarding queue sizes, leaning more towards the higher end.

Once this is all over, I would hazard a guess around 350,000 people would have visited.

Oh well, the next media headlines will be about how there's 150,000 people milling around the area that the organisers are dodging responsibility for as they "close" the queue.

Except our king does not govern, also he does not have recalcitrant advisors strapped to cannon or shot with anti air weapons. He is also not extremely obese with an excruciating haircut. :D
