Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

Is it the place to discuss the impact it is having on people across the UK (football or not)?
Are you asking about these cancellations? Because if so, not in this thread, no.

RIP to the Queen. Personally I have always liked the Queen (as her popularity suggests, I'm not alone in this regard) and am saddened to the news she has passed away, but she did have a long life and was respected by many and passed away aged 96. She has a good innings, though my heart still goes out to her family and it does feel weird that she has gone.

Regardless of your views on the monarchy, we lost the one symbol in the United Kingdom that gave us a sense of unity especially in these tough times that the nation faces.

Even though she is not someone I personally knew, I felt saddened by this news and found myself glued to the Sky/BBC news channel all day just watching events unfold. We all have to go one day but with the Queen it felt like she would continue forever as she had already stood the test of time and been there whilst the world changed drastically over the last 7 decades. Felt so surreal watching all that video footage and photos from her youth days and her coronation.

RIP Queen, you will be truly missed but never forgotten.

P.S. Going one weekend without football is not going to ruin your life, use this time to spend time with your loved ones and appreciate it.

Rest in peace, a very big loss to the UK and commonwealth, her devotion to duty unparalleled. working right up to the end.

You will be greatly missed.

A very sad day yesterday, end of an era.

I’m in Spain. After flicking through the channels of the tv, I noticed that they refer to Elizabeth II as Isabel II and Charles III as Carlos III.

Yet we refer to Spain’s previous king as Juan Carlos, not John Charles and the current king as Filipe, not Philip.

Does anyone know why?

Very common for non-English speaking countries to localise foreign names. Not sure why, probably just good old fashioned cultural elitism.
