Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

What I find really wholesome (and I do not mean this in a condescending or derogatory way) is how the forum's "tougher" members have shown some emotional fragility which is very healthy. Those of you who are saddened by the events, please do speak up and don't keep it bottled up. Periods of instability that we are currently going through not just with the death of the queen but across the world does make this a very tough time for many - do speak up, whether it's a partner, friend, the person sat next to you on the train, or one of the wonderful charities we have that offer their time to listen to people's heartache and worries. Times like this are often difficult and certainly it does feel like a lot of things have happened over the last few years. I'd be happy to meet any of you for a coffee or a chat, if you just need to vent or have someone to speak to.

Very common for non-English speaking countries to localise foreign names. Not sure why, probably just good old fashioned cultural elitism.
I think it's also because for the Spanish the pronunciation and the letters make it difficult for them to say. In spanish one tends to pronounce the letters as you see them. In France by contrast they have been calling Charles, "Roi Charles le troisieme"

This tribute from former Australian PM Paul Keating is worth a read.

I have heard a few military men call her "The Boss", I thought it quite nice actually.
We always regarded her as the boss, I had the honour to be within a foot of her twice, first time was at the last royal tournament and the second time myself and my wife were invited to a royal garden party for the reopening of the royal artillery mess in Larkhill

Nice, good memories! "The Boss" that really tickles me and I like it!

I wasn’t sure about how I felt about this, but I have sworn allegiance to the queen on a weekly basis during my scouting days.
I even considered joining the armed forces (RAF) at one point.
Much respect to a lady who devoted her entire life to public service.
She was the British identity and a fine ambassador.
God Bless.

Reflecting on yesterday I felt surprisingly sad, I don't tend to get emotional about this sort of thing, but when they announced her death and played the anthem, it felt very surreal and difficult to comprehend.

I thought Charles spoke well today, and greeting people outside the palace helped to lift a very sombre mood around the nation.

The avatars are a nice touch on here. Some of the things I've seen posted on the internet have been typical 'edgelord' stuff and massively disrespectful, I'm glad that won't be tolerated on here - not that I ever expected it would be.
