Queen Elizabeth II has passed away - keep posts civil and respectful

I've pretty much been glued to BBC1 watching it too!! No shame in enjoying it, as I feel the same way and I'm loving feeling part of something so historical. :)

And to think just a week before all this, my TV licence had run out and I wasn’t going to renew it as I mostly watch YouTube these days. Good job I kept it going.

Theres a stream on YouTube which is literally just footage from the TV Helicopter - Edinburgh looks pretty good!

I've broadly had Sky News on in the background most of the last few days (work from home) and their coverage hasn't been too bad, and fairly respectful, etc although if I hear another mis-pronounced Scottish Place, Town or building I might scream!
I turned BBC News on for a little last night and to be honest it felt much more like state-sponsored TV (which I guess it is kinda), but they seemed far keener on trying to push politics into into it and pushing the Union.

I think the BBC's coverage has been very poor, yesterday for instance ITV had coverage of the Royal Company of Archers and other troops marching from the castle in Edinburgh in preparation of the Queens coffin arrival, the BBC decide a senior presenter interviewing any and everybody and I don't mean members of the public in a studio.
Then there was the thick black bar on top of a thinner white bar that the BBC felt we needed on screen repeating stuff over and over, the black bar on several occasions obscured the hearse.

Always had respect for the royal family and what they do for our country and the commonwealth, being from a family with military ties who have all served her majesty in the Royal Navy. I was absolutely floored by her death I had no idea it would affect me this much, maybe its a stark reminder of my own mortality and that of my parents, having lost my grandmother recently as well its hit me like a tonne of bricks.

It's been difficult to watch the coverage because it's so upsetting, even while working I actively try avoid the news because it will upset me, even yesterday I drove past a pub plastered in memorabilia with the Union Jack flying at half mast, that made me well up, with that lump in your throat feeling, I had to pull over and stop for a bit.

Suffice to say I told work yesterday don't expect me in Monday the 19th it ain't happening.

There is freedom of speech and there is acting the *** in a crowd showing their respect for a popular monarch.
Exactly, I don't think anyone is arguing the fact people are entitled to say what they like but know your audience and place. They did what they did to gain some short lived attention "look at me I'm the business" mentality, but they got exactly what came to them tbh.

I thought it could be WC final figures but I wonder with it being the funeral of possibly the most famous person in the world, I was thinking around the 1 billion mark?

Upon googling, Dianas funeral estimated 2.5 billion viewers world wide.

Ah were you referring to freedom of speech in Trinidad and Tobago perhaps?

At a wild wild guess being on a UK forum in a discussion about recent events in the UK some would have assumed this but I'll be damned.

No I was replying to a post that said "Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences" when that is actually what it means, people keep touting the quoted line as if it's some God tier rebuttal of freedom of speech; throwing someone in jail for 20 years for something they said but suggesting they have freedom of speech, but it isn't free from consequences, quite obviously doesn't make sense to anyone with an above room temperature IQ.

The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary.

I think the above criteria essentially means we don't have free speech seeing as the threshold for being arrested can basically be arbitrary, the Police can pretty much arrest anyone for speech and say they were preventing crime or stopping disorder, it's so broad that it invalidates any sort of free speech.

World Cup Final type figures i'd imagine
Football is mainly a male appreciated sport, or it certainly was at the time of the last State funeral.

A funeral of the world's most famous monarch, if not simply woman in the world will also draw in a huge female audience. 'Er indoors, (who as an aside has gone back to part time work, thank the Lord), has never removed her gaze from her TV since I told her the Queen had sadly died, work commitments aside.

If I had to guess I would say more women than men will watch, globally, on Monday. As for viewing figures well over 3 billion, I would think.

Well considering the last WC final was watched by 3.57 billion viewers. That's half the frigging planet! Not sure if it can get higher than that
