Quest 3 owners etc

We had a box of 20 quest 2s turn up in the office yesterday. They are for another department, god knows what they want them for.
Anyway, as you'd expect I started checking them for dead pixels. Managed to test five of them, all bloody perfect!!!!

My third one is supposed to be coming today.....I know damn well it will have one.

A swift switcheroo with one in the office if that happens. :D

system>display>graphics>change default graphics settings
Its not there:

So is anyone else getting slight brightness flicker in Virtual Desktop.? It happens on all 3 machines I have it installed on.

Just a thought of someone who hasn't a Quest 3 yet, still think its a fair bit on the expensive side,

Considering that the Quest 2 is selling for £300 and is still a good headset, if we take into consideration that tech development marches on, that we can probably buy a more powerful pc today for the same price or even cheaper that a lessor spec pc three years ago, would you not think that the same criteria applies to a VR headset such as the Quest 3?

Just thinking that probably its costing Meta no more to make a Quest 3 than a Quest 2 (taking the Tech marching on factor into consideration) they could probably sell the 128GB version for the same price or a little more than the Quest 2.

Can you buy a more powerful pc now for less? The graphic card forum is full of people moaning about how expensive GPUs are these days. Motherboards to support the latest GPUs and CPUs have skyrocketed in price.

Let's start with the Snapdragon Xr2 Gen 2 chip compared to the Snapdragon Xr2 in the Quest 2. It has 2.5 times the graphic power and 30% faster CPU performance. It supports 10 cameras instead of 7. And it has an MR chip. As well as that it has 8 times the AI performance. If you were making that jump in performance between a computer 3 years ago and a computer now, on the graphics card alone you would need to spend £1000 extra.

Then there is the Lenses and LCD displays. The Lenses are much better quality then the ones on the Quest 2, good Lenses are extremely expensive. Also the Quest 3 has dual LCD displays not a single LCD like the Quest 2. Which adds to the cost.

Then there is the added extras like better speakers, proper IPD adjustment, Moveable eye relief interface, depth sensor, passthrough cameras, improved build quality.

Lastly there is the rising cost electronics and increasing inflation.

So, no I don't think they could have sold the Quest 3 at the same price as the 128GB Quest 2.

Q2 rose £100 in price for a period, so I'd not expect price cuts too early. Could be wrong.

I doubt they drop the cost as well due to the budget version they're supposedly releasing.

I assume you're putting your controllers down for this? Make sure you've not put them down on the trigger, so it's getting slightly depressed and thinking there's a finger there.
Yeah I’ve done that. It still happens. I’ll be holding them in my hand with nothing touching the trigger, and it thinks my finger is on there.

Not noticed any flickering, and i've been playing both standalone and virtual desktop.
Thanks for the feedback, hopefully more people will chime in and if it turn out to be a hardware issue I will return it within the 30 days rainforest return policy.
Maybe I should create new thread so more people can see it.?

Just tried my Q3 on pcvr in Iracing. I'm a bit underwhelmed by the graphics quality. I was hoping it'd be a good deal better than my HP Reverb G2 that I've been using for the last two years.
Not much difference at all as far as I can see. Very much "Meh". :)
To be fair I've only tried it for 5 minutes with graphics settings I'd been using for the G2. Gotta get off to work now. I'll try having a fiddle with the graphics settings over the weekend.
I went from a reverb G2 to a quest pro. the reverb G2 clarity wise is top drawer even now in the sweetspot of the lens it's also higher resolution than anything from meta.
also it has a proper display port which may help.

where the new meta headsets really shine over the G2 however is the quality of the lenses. rather than a fairly limited sweet spot you have great clarity over the entire lens.
the FOV is also greater than the reverb G2

also I always found the colours to be a little washed out on my reverb G2.

you are going from what was once considered a v high end headset however that even now is held in high regard with simmers. For instance my reverb G2 shamed my quest 2 when it came to pcvr.
The motion controls were crap on it tho imo AND you had to use non rechargables or expensive 1.5v rechargable batteries .

I won't lie. I do miss the sound of my G2 a little bit tho.

This is not the case for me as when I’m moving from the sweet spot I’m still losing a lot of sharpness albeit nowhere near as bad as with fresnel lenses.
Also when looking down there is that double image that’s greenish in colour.
When I heard people praising pancake lenses and saying you get great sharpness across entire fov I thought it will be exactly the sam as the centre but no, not for me at least.

I'm begining to think you have a faulty unit, my headset is not suffering with any of the issues you are having with yours.

So no double image/ghosting at the bottom of the screen for you at all.? (it’s actually green not pink).
Here is a through lens photo showing it.
