Quest 3 owners etc

In other news, I was working from home today and the doorbell rang, my Elite Battery Strap turned up unexpectedly.. so it was straight on and got it charged for lunchtime..

I've just done 1.5 hours of Little Cities/Beat Saber and the battery pack is still at ~50% and the headset is 100%, so plenty of juice and it's obviously a lot easier/more comfortable than the supplied strap. I'm sure the BoBo straps will be better, but it's a good strap for those that want to keep it all OEM.

Negatives:
- Only the price!

Positives
+ awesome increase in battery life
+ Is more comfortable and much easier to adjust

Not a lot more to say really, it was a good upgrade on the Q2, and it's the same on Q3!

Are there any good apps for testing for dead pixels etc?
Yep, open the meta-browser (web browser) and go to "lcdtech.info" when you start the test, it will go 'fullscreen' and just scan around, moving your head/eyes to get full coverage.. everytime you click the colour it will cycle so you can do white/black/red/green/blue..

I hadn't played Little Cities before, but that was fun doing the first island!, a perfect game for first timers or if you just want to give friends a taste of VR, it's so sharp, and when the first jet flies by your head, it's a bit of an LOL moment..
It also reaffirms how much clearer/larger a sweet spot you have over the Q2, it's night and day..

Other than that, some games like Beat Saber are hard to really see that much difference to the Q2..

This one is a keeper so far.. the flare and other visual artefacts are almost non-existant, this definitely bodes well for VRs future when mainstream headsets perform like this!

So no double image/ghosting at the bottom of the screen for you at all.? (it’s actually green not pink).
Here is a through lens photo showing it.

That's what it looks like to me after a few(many) beers! :p

No, mine looks nothing like that. It's perfectly clear. That's annoying for you. Finally solve a problem that's been plaguing for since forever only to discover your new headset is faulty :(

that's faulty
mines better than that

In that case I will be sending it back for sure, and yeah it is very annoying and knowing my luck the replacement will probably have dead pixels.
Might go and pick one up now from Argos and hope for the best.

That reminds me of the cheap VR prescription lenses on my other headsets, off the sweet spot, looking down with my eyes, the prescription lenses separated the colours..
Mines quite blurry right off axis and at the extreme of the lens/panel, but that's right at the edge, and no distinct colour separation.

Is that in both lenses? Since it's separate panels/pancake lenses, I'd be amazed if both had some form of misalignment of panel to lens..

And you aren't wearing glass etc? Taking an image with a phone is hard you have two sets of optics that can make that kind of effect from even a good setup.

It’s like that in both lenses and no I’m not wearing glasses.
This is actually more visible when looking directly than what the photo shows.
I was just trying to change angle of the headset as well as changing distance from my face and it’s always visible.

I've only had a few mins with it but i'm glad to say my 2nd Quest 3 looks to be dead pixel free :) I seen the last defects straight away in the 1st one in the setup room where it shows you a controller, this time it all looks perfect, i might not get chance today to do a proper dead pixel test with 1 of the online testing websites but i'm very hopeful as usually i spot them pretty soon after powering up.

the passthrough is good, better than i expected after i tempered my initial expectations, the light you're in makes a big difference. if the light is suitable i'm able to read text on my phone and although it's not perfect is very useable. i'm a few days behind you guys in getting into the Quest 3.

This is not the case for me as when I’m moving from the sweet spot I’m still losing a lot of sharpness albeit nowhere near as bad as with fresnel lenses.
Also when looking down there is that double image that’s greenish in colour.
When I heard people praising pancake lenses and saying you get great sharpness across entire fov I thought it will be exactly the sam as the centre but no, not for me at least.
that does not sound right esp what sounds like chromatic aberration which i defo do not get

Can you buy a more powerful pc now for less? The graphic card forum is full of people moaning about how expensive GPUs are these days. Motherboards to support the latest GPUs and CPUs have skyrocketed in price.

Let's start with the Snapdragon Xr2 Gen 2 chip compared to the Snapdragon Xr2 in the Quest 2. It has 2.5 times the graphic power and 30% faster CPU performance. It supports 10 cameras instead of 7. And it has an MR chip. As well as that it has 8 times the AI performance. If you were making that jump in performance between a computer 3 years ago and a computer now, on the graphics card alone you would need to spend £1000 extra.

Then there is the Lenses and LCD displays. The Lenses are much better quality then the ones on the Quest 2, good Lenses are extremely expensive. Also the Quest 3 has dual LCD displays not a single LCD like the Quest 2. Which adds to the cost.

Then there is the added extras like better speakers, proper IPD adjustment, Moveable eye relief interface, depth sensor, passthrough cameras, improved build quality.

Lastly there is the rising cost electronics and increasing inflation.

So, no I don't think they could have sold the Quest 3 at the same price as the 128GB Quest 2.
Well you have kinda convinced me the 3 should be around the price it is, being the miser I am though, will still wait until its under £400, well really its the 512 storage I'm after.
For anyone who bought from Argos the three year accidental damage and breakdown cover is £60, I think though you have 30 days to either buy it or not. though not 100% certain.

@ScoobyDoo

charging it with dongle connected at the moment

started at 67%, in 1 hour, its done 6%

any idea how long yours took to charge? (USB-A)
I only went from 80% but USB A took a good few hours.
Just leave the Q3 on but in standby mode and charge using USB c. It then charges at full 18w speed.
From what I've read the passthrough mode is designed to charge the quest when it's on not totally powered off

So while the lenses are EXACTLY the same, at least I’m not getting brightness flickering in Virtual Desktop so there is an improvement.
Just hope there aro no dead pixels as I haven’t checked properly yet.
