Quest 3 preview

lol the rift s is junk compared to the quest pro in PCVR.

Think you didn't follow the conversation at all. Mr_Sukebe was saying he didn't switch from the Rift S to the Quest 2 because he didn't think it was a good enough upgrade, but the Quest Pro was. I said that was fine. However the Quest Pro was very expensive and didn't sell very well because of that.

According to MRTV, the Neo link came in to exitance due to a demand from enterprise, there was never a requisite for it's inclusion in any future device. Regardless of what you make of his opinions and reviews, he does know the industry as he actively talks to people within.

Unless you have a source, i'm inclined to believe him.

I never made any claims about why the Neo link was introduced into the Pico 3 and never said anything about it been a requisite for future devices. Features been introduced into enterprise devices and then used for consumer devices is a common enough occurrence so I would have no reason to doubt what MRTV said. It seems pretty logical to me, make the enterprise bear the brunt of the costs of development and then release the headset for the consumer without needing much extra work or development costs.

The Pico 3 was a Trial consumer headset though. They used the trial period to decide what features, functionality and software to use on the Pico 4. And since they were using buyers of the Pico 3 Neo Link as guinea pigs they offered the Pico 4 at reduced price to anyone who bought the Pico 3.

- Hard to make money in PCVR. That's why Bytedance, after doing the trial with the Pico 3, made the Pico 4 without the display port adapter.

The Pico 3 had no display port adapter, one was only added to a iterated later release of the headset on request from enterprise (according to to Sabastian of MRTV)

Suggesting that the inclusion (a DP port) was some sort of 'trail' to associate the financial viability of PCVR in a future release (the Pico 4) with a display port adapter itself, was and is incorrect.

You directly made that claim, i only interdicted in the discussion because you're claim was baseless and incorrect.

And since they were using buyers of the Pico 3 Neo Link as guinea pigs they offered the Pico 4 at reduced price to anyone who bought the Pico 3.

Bizarre, is there a source?

There you go again, misreading posts and putting stuff in that I never said.

You see, I never said that Bytedance included the display port as trial, I said that the Pico 3 Neo Link headset was a trial headset in the consumer market. They weren't just checking the display port, they were testing software, their market place and all those other things. They already had the Pico 3 without the display port, they could have just released this to see what the other markets would think. Instead they released the Pico 3 Neo and made that available throughout Asia, Europe and the USA. And after that trial phase, they went with a headset without the display port adapter, the Pico 4.

For anyone who participated in the Pico 3 Neo Link Beta Program, Bytedance offered those people a 35% discount on their next headset as long as they bought the new headset in the first three months of release.

This is pretty common knowledge. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/pico-4-out-soon.18955644/post-35875213

I've no need to reply any further, enjoy you're evening.

It's not my fault you have reading difficulties.

Hope you had a nice weekend.

imo the quest pro was poorly marketed and very poorly priced.
I find it hard to believe if meta can sell (and make a profit on) the quest 2 at £300 that the quest pro really warranted being sold at a £1500 premium.

and the marketing....... i mean i love VR, and will defend the existence of VR and beg / demand support in some games before i will consider buying..... but even in lockdown if i wanted a meeting with my team, i am not gonna strap on a vr headset, i am going to use zoom or what ever.

*maybe* in some isolated cases VR could enable stuff you cant do on a screen such as interacting with a 3D model if you were talking about some sort or design project, but that is a niche within a niche... and now lockdown is over, its also the added extra niche of staff too far to actually meet in person.

sure the price has been cut now and it is close to temping me, but for gamers the quest pro is also in an odd spot because it came out late in the quest 2 life cycle and it was a massive premium for a headset which was obviously soon to have its processor replaced.

but a quest 3 and a quest 3 pro with the quest 3 at £450 and the pro (identicle to the quest pro but with the quest 3 chipset in) at £900 both released at the same time......i suspect that would be a day one purchase for me.

I'd definitely prefer a Quest Pro 2 with the SOC of the Quest 3 plus the depth sensor, and higher resolution MiniLED screens. Rumours are the Q3 will have a single panel again, and I really notice the narrow field of view when I go back to the Q2 due to the single panel.

I don't think there will ever be a quest pro 2 but for me personally I bought the pro for DCS world and paid less than a G2 I was lucky and had a gamble.

it keeps looking more and more like my next headset I still wish that it could support base stations for better tracking even if it was just an optional addon

Do we know the detailed specs on this yet? I do love the Quest 2, but hardly get to play it. It's always a faff, having to create space.

Definitely not... But the itch

Ah yes, the itch for shiny, shiny!! :)

Sorry, didn't answer your question, we don't have the full specs on the Quest 3 yet. But the Meta Connect event is on the 27th of September so there should be lots of info coming in the next 6/7 weeks.

You can get some cream for that.

Quest3 i expect to be 50% faster/better gfx, and better lenses to remove god rays. As i mostly PCVR the better lenses and res. is more important to me. *Edit...i'd give up better resolution if they added better FOV instead.
