***Quest Pro Owners Club***

Nice finally some proper analysis showing settings as well, good job :)

What was interesting as well is you could see the runway clear and in focus when it was at the edge and wasn't the centre of attention, that is something neither the VP2 or G2 can do

Awesome, that's good to know. As I have not owned either of those HMD's so I couldn't compare it.
This then gives you a good indication of how good the lenses are in the Quest Pro.

The incredible thing here is it's almost the same resolution as the Quest 2, yet is far clearer.

That means that it will perform as well as the Quest 2, while the higher resolution headsets will perform worse but look worse.

A local high street catalog shop also has them.

If i get one, that's where I'd be getting one as it's far easier to go back and get it refunded or swapped if there are issues.

Yes, the Quest pro does look tempting but don’t think I’ll consider it until I manage to bag a RRP priced 4090 to replace my 3090.
That’s really my next VR upgrade

I’d have been tempted by the Quest pro if the price was maybe double the regular Quest at £800 but for £1500 I personally can’t really justify it!

Glad to hear it’s a noticeable improvement over the Quest 2 though. Bodes well for a future Quest 3 in an another year or two.

Quest 3 is due late next year.
Unlikely it will use the same displays, or even the controllers, though the CPU/GPU will be better than the Quest Pro.
I imagine it will have pancake lenses though.

Rav, I'd sell the index now whilst it's still 1k before it drops
With Deckard potentially coming, and other new headsets popping up frequently, this probably isn't bad advice. Depends on how happy you'd be without it for a while. Or sell both the index and the q2, and use that to offset a lot of the cost of the pro.

It's good advice. I will probably get a Pro first though as Decard is a while off it seems, as valve have only just started advertising for the computer vision specialists needed.

I'm keeping the Q2. My wife has already asked if she can have it!

I'm just waiting on seeing what level my work Bonus is this year.

rain forest, and keep it ?
Fixed that for you. :D

It sure does, but the actual screen in the ODT shows it to be 1808x1920 per eye, hence you may have see me set the encode res width to 3616.

Yes, your theory is correct.
Just don't expect Quest games to look any better in the Pro unless they optimise them for it.

3090 will still run the Quest Pro well. You may be waiting a while for RRP on a 4090.

Quest Pro uses 12GB LPDD5, (Quest 2 6GB LPDDR4) I also believe the XR2+ Gen1 is on the 4nm node due to the extra improvements made, but Qualcomm haven't publically announced it. It is very future proof.
If the Quest 3 does come with the XR2 Gen2, then the performance will be improved for standalone games/apps.

This was my thinking. I hope Valve pull it off and give us the option to attach/deattach a DP cable to take it a notch above the Pro.

Is there a 'lip' around the lenses to stop glasses bumping into them? It looks like there are in the videos I've watched.
Yes, about 2-3mm so they shouldn't rub against the lenses.

do you have the ROV FOV Test HMD software that the VR reviewers use? I think there is a free version and the full version is about £5... useful to help test and setup your headset

Yes, I use the free version to get a true idea to what my FOV is at my IPD of 67mm which was about 104 degrees. If I get my eyes closer, then you get the maximum FOV of 106-108.

Well you convinced me!

Work bonus came through so I bought one at Argos this afternoon, and also bought 4 years accidental damage and breakdown cover which seemed sensible for such an expensive portable device.

I'll be testing it works ok and getting it basically setup then it'll be packed away for Christmas for my wife to give me. :D

I will say the package is really heavy. Much more so than the Quest 2.

Nice one! - I will say, grab the official Link cable. as my original analyst regarding battery life was based off a cheap cable that did not give it enough juice to charge and play. The official link cable massively improves the playtime by many hours.
PCVR is where this HMD really shines. The touch controllers tracking are on another level!

Controller Tracking

Watch from 28:24 as he talks about PCVR.

If its heavier than the Q2, God help you :D

But the Pro is very well balanced on your head though... ;)
