Racing Simulators

Daniel C was I just in a race with you (you finished 8th, skippy at Okayama) or is the name just a coincidence? :p

Anyway, just did my first (full) race of the season, started pole with my flukey 1:45.149, led out of the first corner and just gradually eeked out a lead, guy behind seemed to be doing consistent 45.7/8's early on so couldn't rest too much, so I pushed to keep concentration and set consistent 45's, ignoring the first lap it was a best of 45.362 (new non-draft PB) and an average of 1:45.832 over the race, not too shabby :p

Did have one lap outside the 45's though, a 46.034, very disappointing :( :p

No it wasn't me mate. Have not raced today.

Well done on your win! I find it much harder when there is someone behind me keeping the pressure on, I tend to crumble and spin or brake too late. Where as when I'm following I keep my cool and I'm more consistent.

Congrats though :)

I've seen some seriously wreckless stuff recently as well.

I was following 2 guys that were having a battle. One of them put a wheel on the grass and had a little wobble, didn't spin just swerved a little and very slightly touched the other guy. Was not really his fault to be fair. So this other guy who was driving like a dick before hand just didn't brake at all into the next corner and wiped out himself and the other guy.

All the time I was keeping my distance watching events unfold. It was quite entertaining :p

Things like that really should be protested, even if you're not involved, although there are arguments about the success of the protest system it should at least be attempted...

On that note I didn't see any bad driving in my win last night, but that's mostly because I was in the lead the whole time :p but there were some accidents obviously and one guy got rather irate using the text chat to have a go at the other guy with gratuitous use of the F word, not sure whether to protest it or not, think I will tbh as not only did he swear which is very much against the rules he did it repeatedly whilst other people were still trying to race which was distracting...

WP Skill.

Had another 3rd last night. Started 4th and easily passed the guy in front. Couldn't catch the front runners, their pace was just too hot for me, only finished 5-6 secs behind them though. Set a PB of 1:47.0 during the race which I was chuffed with and can now see where I could gain a bit more time.

As of last night I was 3rd in my div :)

I had something like that happen to me as well. It was a truck race on Daytona and we were on the final lap. I was on the outside of him trying to run as low as I could without touching so that I could beat him across the line. We ended up touching at 190mph but we both managed to hold it and not wreck but he then decided to ram me into a wall when I slowed down after crossing the line. What surprised me the most is that he was an A 4.99 Safety Rating driver!

Tried a Road race list night and was doing OK in the MX5 on Okayama. I was actually running third at one point but someone locked their wheels and plowed into the side of me while trying to overtake :(

Whats the racing like in the Trucks? I'm seriously tempted to put some time in and get my Oval license up. Worth it???

It completely depends on who you're racing with. I've had races where we've gone almost the entire race distance with no incidents and other races where we spent most of the time driving under caution (which is rather dull to say the least). Generally the racing is fun and so long as you're consistent you can finish well even if you're not that fast. It's much more fun though if you can stick with the pack since the pack racing is awesome.

One thing of note is that when racing on the super speedways (Daytona, Talladega etc) winning is all about being patient, getting your tactics right, and being able to bump draft rather then being fast.

I am getting sick and tired of this game.

I have had ONE clean race so far it is becoming a joke, I paid for this to try and avoid the antics of normal racing games and this is just as bad if not more frustrating.

People always taking crappy lines cutting across you blaming you for them not paying attention, people losing it on corners and instead of moving out the way they reverse back across the track, people nudging you because they dont brake in enough time.

Goes on and on, 3 times I have been third and with the pack only for someone to pit manouvre me or to crash out in front of me and make no attempt to move their car.

One lap is is what I have just made, not even one 3/4s of a lap before some idiot hits the car in front of him and wipes out 4/5 of us and as usual I am the one left with a mashed up car and out of the race.

Turning out to be a waste of money. How do I even report someone? Not very clear.

What class are you in Rich? If you are in rookie with the MX5 then that may explain some of your experiences. Yes there is always 1 or 2 ppl who drive like mentalists. Since racing the Skip I can honestly say that the majority of races have been clean & fair.

As someone said first rule of rookie is to get out of rookie

Yes I am racing in the MX5 but this is meant to be the starting point, the skip costs more money doesn't it? I shouldn't need to spend more to get a better quality race when the whole idea of this sim is to promote it from the off.

It is fast becoming a joke, i'm not even that good at the damn thing but being constantly smashed up is frustrating.

*edit*

Managed to log a complaint, getting fed up now so everytime someone does something like this consider it reported. As long as iRacing do something about it otherwise I will probably just give up. I don't do many road races and its taking me ages to get my ranking up barely moved because I get smashed up when I do race and just quit.

Unfortunately the SR system kind of fails for rookies, where you can do anything and never get demoted, racing in the D-Class and above is a hell of a lot better, essentially rookie racing is just an exercise in clean lapping (usually by starting in the pits/at the back of the field) to get your SR up to class D and away from the nutters who will never progress...

There's also the argument that a lot of incidents, even if the 'blame' is entirely the other persons, could be avoided by being more proactive, in fact I'd say the vast majority of incidents come under this category, seeing how aggressive others are being (chances are if you let them through they'll go on to spin/wreck someone else), seeing when people aren't entirely in control and preparing to avoid them, etc etc etc

+1

Start from the pits or just let everyone past at the start (Do this very carefully though, don't just stop stay still when the lights go green :p)

Then just focus on making consistent laps. You will see you can start at the back and work your way through the wrecks, rather than getting smashed up with all the wreck less drivers.

Also Rich, If you want some quality races get into the D class cars. I know you say that you should not have to, but the fact is, everyone has to start somewhere and new guys will crash more than guys who have been iracing a few seasons.

Something seems to have finally clicked and I'm suddenly able to drive the Skip. I even managed to win at Okayama twice! Now I can do a lap without spinning it into a wall I'm finding it really fun to drive. It really seems worth trying hard to qualify well just to avoid as much of a 1st corner carnage as possible.

Time to practise in the DP for the 80min race at watkins... Could be quite fun :)

Loved Spa two weeks ago in it. Managed to win one of the races and second in the other. Great combo but so easy to pick up x1's.
