Racing Simulators

I am getting better on limerock with that mx5 roadster

Fastest lap is 1:00:7xx or something in a free prac fasted in a TT is 1:00:997
Start of the week I was getting around 1:02 solid! Not bad not bad want to get below 1 min though but that is a lot to make up when I feel I am going flat out already.

Had one 2nd and one 3rd this week and should have had 2 1st places was gutted I messed it up 2 laps from the end and clipped the grass and guy behind caught up.

Hosted Session on iRacing tonight is open again.

Session name
OCuK iRacing Skip
Zandvoort - GP
4 hours from 18:30pm onwards. All are welcome, password is race
Cars allowed are Skip Barber and Star Mazda's

Sinch using it in the current Skip Barber cup I've beaten every pesonal best time as I've come to them . Did Zandvoort this week where my best was about 2.00.500, I've took 1 second off that now so I'm quite happy.

Braking seems to be more flexible

I have heard they do make a difference, but ultimately I don't think they're necessary, I feel I'm quick enough and certainly that braking isn't a massive issue, and I've just got the stock pedals,

Saying that I do want a set of CST's, silly money but they look so awesome, possibly quite good to use as well but who cares about that :p

You weren't supposed to say that. Now I'm tempted to get one!

A good set of pedals makes far more difference to your driving than anything else.

I used a bodnar box with my old g25 pedals and made pb times every car and track right away after i fitted it.

Im now using club sport pedals with load cell which not cheap but are a worthwhile investment to anyone serious about sim racing.

If we both have same skill and speed both with g25 if i then get a bodnar box i will beat you every race thats the difference.

Yeah, instead of it going something like:
USB -> G25 -> Pedals/Shifter

You would have 2 usb ports used, one would be:
USB -> G25 -> Shifter

and the other would be:
USB -> Pedals

So as far as the wheel, and the logitech software, is concerned there are no pedals, instead the bodnar cable adds a hid device with 3 axes to use in game, note that although most games work (and iRacing definitely does) with multiple input devices some will expect wheel/pedals/buttons to be all part of one device and hence won't work properly...

EDIT: johnny_dolan, that's true, but if my skill level is higher than another driver then I'm most likely going to beat them whether they've got a bodnar cable or not :p

Admittedly it's just me being tight/lazy that's stopped me getting one, but as said you simply don't NEED one, it's merely a 'nice to have'

Works ok with Dirt 3 but you have to remind the game about your pedals everytime you load the game.

Hi guys,

I signed up for iRacing yesterday again (had a membership in January for 3 months that I used twice) and spent a couple of hours last night just running test laps and not really enjoying myself.

I have a G27 & WSP that I have used with GT5 and Dirt 3 (PC version) very happily, however I can't seem to get anywhere on iRacing. I'd like to think that I'm at least 'average' on most racing games, I play GT5 without any assists (except ABS on 1) and can handle pretty much any car/track combo. Unfortunately I appear to be completely useless on iRacing. I find the cockpit view quite restricting, even on a 100"+ projected screen. I try to be gentle on the throttle in and out of corners but find myself spinning quite often.

So, do you have any tips that could help me or can you point me in the direction of some online tutorial? I can be online tonight if you want a noob to join in? I don't have a headset though unfortunately.

Cheers

Rob

The mazda is probably hte best place to start, out of all the cars i find that the easiest to drive. I highly reccommend watching all the driving school videos then trying the open sessions and trying to follow others round the track/watch the lines they take. What i found was when i first started i was going too fast thinking i was better than i actually was. Take it slow then slowly build up the speed round the courses.

May be able to join some sessions with you, though be warned i aint that great either. Just about compotent in the mazda to actually race now :p Had to start all over in the skip barber :D

I only started Saturday night but if you want to join a practice server and follow for a few laps? (I'm not the quickest though - 1:02.050)

Hi Aman,

I'll give your suggestion a go later tonight. I really want to get to a minimum decent standard so that I can start participating in the organised races. I'm too considerate to take part as things stand as I'll just ruin it for the others when I spin out repeatedly.

Can anyone give me some target times for the tracks I have (whatever the standard set of tracks are) for the MX5 (think there 2 so please state which one the time refers to). Once i can consistently hit something like race pace then I'll try a 'proper' race.

Hopefully, with your support I can improve and get some value out of the next 3 months membership.

Cheers

Rob
