Racing Simulators

Out of interest I got promoted a couple of days ago because my SR went to 4.48 and I went from rookie to D before the "date". My SR was knocked down to 3.48 - if I race more and go above four again will I get promoted early to C or do I stay as D now until the "date" for normal promotions?

EDIT: I think so from looking again at sporting code?

My advice would be to start your own account and just use your mates wheel. Unless there are tracks and cars on his account you want to use?

What i mean is matt he is subscribed up until the 27th of next month, and hasn't got a new wheel on his priority list, so i have his account to have a go at iracing as i've never tried it before.

Its his wheel thats died not mine.

Ok, so now I have an account with iRacing. I havent a clue what I am doing apart from just doing tests! How do I get setup in a race then where I can start getting points (pref with one of you lot!)?

:D

Ok, I kind of figured out what I needed to do. Just did a spot of online practice in the mazdas. Not bad, though I seem to be 2 seconds of the pace in this game as well! lol, whatever racing game I play online, be it rfactor or whatever, Im always 2 seconds off the fastest guy on the track! WTF! Maybe I need a new steering weheel and pedals? I guess the logitech formula force just doesnt cut it.

Whooo got my SR upto 3.40 and have done my MPR. Will get away from my Rookie license tomorrow. BUT that means I will just have to purchase some new tracks/cars. Oh Well :D.

It takes a LOT of practice to be quick in iRacing. I'm pretty consistent now but I'm still a fair bit off the fastest times. For the first couple of seasons I'd personally worry about being able to go race distance without crashing. You'll finish pretty well just by doing that. The pace will come naturally in time as you get more comfortable with the car.

It's also an idea to not fight for position too hard in the lower leagues. The newer people don't have such good race craft and aren't great at driving off-line so they're likely to take you out if you defend too much.

Hello mate.

I remember racing with you on rFactor. I think Log1k still has a short vid on youtube with us all.

The key is practice. Repetition. The fastest guys have been doing it quite a while. If you can grab replays of the guys doing fast laps then grab them. Watch it, make note of brake points and brake force, turn in points, how soon they're back on the power etc etc. If not, youtube is a suitable alternative.

I also find iSpeed a great help. You can load your PB lap into a lap analyzer and compare telemetry with someone else's faster lap.

Most importantly keep it on the track. Keep an eye on the iRacing forums, they're a great help. Work on your MPR and SR. Get out of Rookie series and join us in the Skip Barber. :)

Reading it back that may be a bit to much to take in at once. Just concentrate on finishing. The speed will come in time.

I can't comment on the wheel.

Edit: What Borrish said. Didn't refresh page of typing response.

Hey up! Yeah I remember that. That wasnt too long a go was it!? :D

Well I am just going to make sure I find the time to play (i.e. when the mrs is down the gym, then I should be able to get some time in).

Whats the best way to get my SR up and progress? Is it by doing races? Is it possible on practice sessions?

Also, what is the box in the top right hand corner for? What is it telling me?

Cheers

Keep meaning to try that! Having more details telemetry would be a great help so I can find where I'm going wrong. As I get more confident in the cars it's getting harder to see where I'm losing all the time.

Best way to get your SR up is to race. Make sure you finish and you preferably want a clean race. If you get your SR above 4.0 you'll fast track to D Licence. TT's and Qualifying sessions add to it as well but not by much. Open practice sessions are just that. They don't at all effect your SR or iRating. It's a blessing once you get out of Rookie and need to learn a new track.

I'm not sure what that is in the top right hand corner. I only know that FPS is one of the pieces of info displayed.

SR is awarded for any official Race, TT or Qualifying sessions, Races give the most though as it's a 1x multiplier compared to 0.35/0.5x (can never remember) for the TT/Q sessions,

Practice sessions both on and offline don't count towards safety rating (thankfully :p)

Box in the top right is your connections details (and fps iirc?) L = lag, Q = quality, can't remember what the third bar is, generally green = good :p

Might also be worth posting a replay and asking for comments, for the skippy I'd be happy to have a look and give my thoughts, but not massively familiar with the rest of the cars, but someone in the club england section of the iRacing forums would be happy to help I'm sure...

Totally agree. I wont race without it open now. I have it set to compare my current lap time to my PB with Audio output (Voice) to tell me during a race.

A bad T1 on Watkins Glenn can cost you .500 by the time you get to T5. I Didn't realise until I compared my lap with someone else's
