After this id be surprised if they continue with the current distributors, especially RS

Farnell are now sold out of Raspberry Pis. RS want you to express interest; they'll start sending out to those on that list at end of week.

Looks a complete mess on the RS side of things

Oh well, i missed the boat this time round. I hope the people who got them will put them to good use. I think it best the devs got hold of them first and enthusiasts like myself who want to learn get them after.

This isn't the fault of RS or Farnell. Raspberry Pi screwed up by (a) adopting a 'first come first served' and (b) choosing distributors with limited capacity.

It would have been far simpler and more effectively to just collect 'pre-orders' over a week or two, then run a lottery to pick the first 10,000. If for some crazy reason they thought first come first served was the best approach they should have just used Amazon or eBay (fixed price) where capacity wouldn't have been an issue. The fees could have been added to the price transparently.

I agree and posted about lottery earlier, Problem id have with RS is that RPi have said that today 6am is their launch date and went worldwide with it, RS have failed to even put it online to purchase, So what exactly was the agreement with them for in the first place?

RS may not have got their website updated... but the Raspberry Pi page should never have been posted without direct links to the product on RS and Farnell. If RS and Farnell weren't ready by 6am, the 'launch' should have waited.

Managed a pre order with farnell, there are tweets about people being able to order more than 1 and RPi aren't chuffed if that's true, Helpfully they would only post 1 per address and the rest will fill pre orders......you never know

edit. Got confirmation, invoice states delivery week commencing 26/03/12

I managed to snag one at 07.04 from the farnell ireland site. Got confirmation email saying expected delivery date 13/03/12. I guess I got a pre-order and not one of the initial allocation. Timed out several times during the process to create an account and give shipping address, but reloading the page seemed to bring it up eventually.

Bit of a mess. The team was rather nieve in its dealings with the distributors. Agreed a pre-order \ lottery setup would have been better.
