Newcastle

Goalkeepers:

Soderberg - ? Never even heard of him or seen him play to be honest
Harper - 8 This will be his breakthrough season and really expect him to make the England squad though not the starting line up.
Krul - 6 Good enough keeper when you see him play though not sure how he would be over a long term.

Defender:

Campbell - 7 Good defender but looking more and more past it.
Kadar - 6 Decent enough
Taylor - 7 Good player though always injured and can be inconsistent
Perch - ? No idea really
Enrique - 8 Quality player, if he plays as well as I think he will he will be off in January.
Williamson - 6/7 Solid enough in the championship gues it depends how he transfers to the prem.
Colocinni - 6/7 Was shocking last time in the premiership but will hopefully be adapted now.
Simpson - 6/7 depends how he cdan transfer to the prem.
Ryan Taylor - 7 Solid enough player.

Midfielder:

Gosling - ? Great player but can he get over his injury?
Smith - 6/7 will battle like mad but not that good.
Nolan - 7 If he can transfer his scoring form up to the prem he will be an asset.
Gutierrez - 7 If hes consistent can be a very good player.
Routledge - 6/7 Good if he can transfer his ability up to the prem.
Guthrie - 7 Solid player.
Barton - ? Can be great can be a mess. Not sure how he will end up playing

Striker:

Ranger - 5/6 Will probably not be there come start of season, will be out on loan
Best - 5 not good enough I think
Ameobi - 6 Solid enough in prem but never been anything special
Carrol - 7/8 could be great but depends if he transfers his ability to the prem
Lovenkrands - 6/7 solid enough.

We need another striker, defender and midfielder to be honest to sort this team out though. Not confident.

Almunia 6.5, I died inside

Why? He's a good keeper, it doesn't help you as a keeper if you have the worst defence in the top flight in front of you. Most of his howlers come from poor defending but he's the unlucky guy that always gets the blame. I think we could have won the league if we had a defence as good as Chelsea's.

Goalkeepers

Manuel Almunia - 5 - A pretty talented guy, however nothing approaching world class. Several times throughout his career he's had 'stomach bugs' i.e. diplomatic omissions from the side. This is just not on for a first choice goal keeper. Nice bloke, lives in a haunted house, but needs to move on. An example of when Wenger doesn't get it right by selection or dropping him. However who for? Like all our keepers it's worth stating that a better and stronger defensive unit would help.
Lukasz Fabianski - 4 - Worse, but not much worse. Very flappy and under confident. Needs to move on as well.
Wojciech Szczesny - N/a
Vito Mannone - 4 - Not bad, but again when given the chance has made mistakes. However like all our keepers is a confidence guy, and possibly may have done better with people in front of him doing their job.

Fullbacks
Gael Clichy - 6.5 Looked to be a world class replacement for A Cole and for a while did very well. Was up there with Evra for the EPL or world's best LB. However has faded very badly and at times has looked lazy and sloppy. Has a tendency to panic at times which is odd as early on in his career he was a lot calmer.
Bacary Sagna - 6 - Had a poor season last term by his first year's performance. Hopefully can step up again this year.
Kieran Gibbs - 5 - Too young as of yet and needs more games. I think he needs loaning out because as our first choice replacement he isn't ready yet. Again, poor squad management by Wenger. Not entirely certain he'll make it.
Emmanuel Eboué - 6 When he plays on the wing he's not that good going forward. When he plays in defence he's oddly enough much better at it. Not a great defender. Respect for him coming back after the season before last. Seems to be a sort of jack of all trades, but not brilliant at anything. Wouldn't mind seeing leave.
Armand Traoré - 3 - Must be loaned out, have a strong feeling he won't make it.

Centre-Backs

Thomas Vermaelen - 8 - I'd have preferred another season next to Gallas or even Sol (at times) but that isn't going to happen. Hopefully he can perform consistently and not suffer from any second season syndrome. An excellent defender, and has a goal or two in him.
Laurent Koscielny - N/a.
Johan Djourou - 3.5 - Not really pleased he's still in the squad. Though is injury prone so who knows what he's capable of if he were to get a run in the side. Should be given the chance but don't think it will happen. Needs replacing.

Midfield

Cesc Fabregas - 9 - As already noted, our only truly world class player. Can do it all, would have given him 10/10 but for his temper. Don't mind it though, I'd rather see some venom than wimping out.
Abou Diaby - 2 - Just sell him. It is unfair on so many levels that this guy is probably a millionaire. For 5% of the season he will be immense. The rest of the time utterly dire. "The new Patrick Viera" my arse.
Samir Nasri - 7 - Good skilful player, excellent technical ability though at times appears under confident. Some dubious decision making at times. Seems to like the CM/ACM role.
Tomas Rosicky - 6 - Injury prone and this for me is galling. I still believe there's a world class player in him and his technical ability is excellent. However he'll never realise this now due to his age and that's a pity. Worthy squad player at best, I do like the fact he does try most of the time however has on occasion completely disappeared from games.
Denilson - 3 - Again, get rid. I don't rate this guy at all.
Alex Song - 8 - If he continues his ascendancy he looks to be a world class defensive midfielder. Has no tutor for possibly the most difficult role of the side which of course means his learning is slower. Hopefully can keep the work going this year.
Aaron Ramsey - 6 - Like Jack Wilshere looks very promising (until his broken leg). Hopefully his development won't be hampered and we can see him back in the late Autumn. He must not be rushed back into the side - there's no need since he's not a first team player. Fine technical ability.
Jack Wilshere - 6 - See Aaron Ramsey, needs more time etc. Fine technical ability.
Theo Walcott - 3 - Again, get rid. Not fulfilling the hype is fine, being crap and lazy at times isn't good enough. Lacks technical ability and any confidence. Wouldn't mind either to see the back of him. Has been given plenty of chances. Reminds me of Lewis Hamilton.

Forwards

Robin Van Persie - 8 - Almost, but not quite a world class forward. Has a lot of ammo however he blatantly isn't going to fulfill his 'potential' of years ago. Pity really as he's a good professional. Would be disappointed but I think it'd be prudent to think about selling. There is no point having a great player for only a fraction of the season, every season. He's only broken the 40 game mark twice in 6 seasons.
Carlos Vela - 3 - Talented guy, but very under confident. Needs games, and to remain injury free. All in all based on last year 3/10. Wouldn't mind seeing him leave.
Andrei Arshavin - 5 - Very talented but just damn right lazy at times. Doesn't track back. For a forward his shooting leaves a lot to be desired. I wanted those rumours of him wanting one big money transfer left to come to fruit but it appears not now. Rather annoying.
Marouane Chamakh - N/a - Hopefully can do well. Seems a big lad.
Nicklas Bendtner - 6 - Has height and decent heading ability. Wanders in and out of games and still inconsistent. He's been given a lot of chances - it's time for him to make more of an effort. Not great technical ability but better than some others in the squad.

waheyyyy! I know you're entitled to your opinion but song is not world class and has a long way to go! You'd think that you've just rated a mid-table club from some of those ratings.

A 9 for Fabregas and an 8 for Song?

*Readies popcorn*

:p

I wasn't comparing them to the rest of the world, just the squad; Cesc has the highest mark because I believe he's our best player.

He did go out on loan, and will make it. He's only been playing as a left back for a short time.

I've seen Lennon go past him twice in the space of 5 minutes...

If Evra is the best in the world then that must make Lennon the best winger? He literally shakes in his boots everytime he plays aginst us :)

I don't mean Lennon being able to get the cross off before Cole tackles. I mean actually going past Cole.

I think you've been a bit harsh on the scores with a few players? I'm no expert on gooners but has Clichy really fallen so much?

Nasri looks a fantastic player, I'd love him at Spurs, looks at least an 8

Lol at Walcott he's not THAT bad..

As much as I hate RvP that nasty little **** he is world class imho.

Arshavin is a better player than a 5 surely???

Arshavin is immensely talented but can't be bothered to do ANYTHING! He strolls around the pitch, misplaces passes and just runs into the defence and then gives up. He's good but he needs to put in more effort!

RvP is world class but he'll never be recognised unless he strings together over 25games!

Walcott is dire. Needs to spend a year on loan or give him the boot! 60K a week to run as fast as you can towards the corner flag is crazy.

Nasri is fantastic but needs to be more consistent, it doesn't help that he's played out of position but he should adapt and learn to shoot more. He's also a great FK taker.

PS. Nice to see a spurs fan who isn't a complete tit!

I'm waiting for Stag to turn up and give each Spurs player 10/10 because remember, they have the best squad in the League.

When did I say that? I remember saying the squad had fewer weaknesses than most teams bar probably Chelsea, and they went on to win the title and Spurs went on to finish 4th. Lack of weaknesses != strength. Was I far wrong?

This whole marks out of 10 thing is very subjective, if I'm thinking Football Manager stats then everyone has vastly overrated players, but I'll try and keep up with the relative barometer that has been set:

Tottenham Hotspur

Goalkeepers:
Heurelho Gomes - 8 - Very happy with the Octopuss, great reactions and cat like agility is only really marred by the occasional flap commanding his area that is becoming rarer.
Carlo Cudicini - 6 - Decent backup

Centre-backs:
Younes Kaboul - 6.5 - I think he has some great attributes, currently lacks the quality of a top player, still improving
Sebastien Bassong - 7 - Good player still learning his trade
Michael Dawson - 7 - Awesome Dawson
Ledley King - 8 - If only he had knee cartilage
Jonathan Woodgate - 7.5 - Would be great, if he was ever fit

Full-backs:
Kyle Walker - 6.5 - Potential to be a very good player, quick, full of energy and likes to run with the ball, still learning his defensive play, versatile
Kyle Naughton - 6.5 - Very similar to above, can play left or right
Alan Hutton - 6 - A mixed bag, with great aggression and work rate, let down by bad decision making and questionable defensive credentials
Gareth Bale - 8.5 - Truly amazing, has finally paired his awesome technical attributes with consistent performances. Arguably better on the wing, but his defensive skills have certainly improved.
Vedran Corluka - 7 - Solid full back, lacks pace but makes up for it with a football brain. Has admitted he doesn't like heading which is funny for someone who looks like a massive centrehalf.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 7 - Come on leaps and bounds since we signed him, good squad player, I wonder if he will be preferred over Bale at times.

Midfielders:
David Bentley - 6.5 - There's a great player itching to get out in there, I think he is slowly emerging and could be a very useful option on the bench.
Tom Huddlestone - 7.5 - Getting better and better, has finally combined his incisive passing with energetic and intelligent running
Aaron Lennon - 8 - Quicker with the ball than most players without it, wins free kicks better than anyone (no diving required), his crossing once woeful is now verging on good.
Jermaine Jenas - 6.5 - Marmite player, I think he gets unfair stick, good engine, lamented for negative passing but he generally doesn't give the ball away
Wilson Palacios - 7.5 - Not the same player since his brothers murder, but I expect him to get back to form
Luka Modric - 8.5 - Great player, intelligent, hard working, quick married with great technique, slight negative against his shooting though.
Niko Kranjcar - 7.5 - Arguably the bargain of last summer worldwide, versatile, he's a poor man's Modric with a better shot on him
Jamie O'Hara - 6 - If he develops further he could become a very good midfielder, marries tenacity and technique well and has versatility on his side
Sandro -? - wildcard, looks a great ball winner from what little I've seen on youtube
Danny Rose - 6.5 - Great potential, I wonder if we will loan him out to a lower premiership side

Forwards:
Giovani Dos Santos - 7 - Finally starting to look like the starlet we signed from Barcelona, he's always been quick and technically gifted but we've seen a new lease of effort in his play emerging in the world cup and pre season
Roman Pavlyuchenko - 6.5 - A complete striker but let down by consistency, truly a confidence player, if he gets a run of games he will get you goals
Robbie Keane - 6.5 - I have a feeling we'll keep him and he'll chip in with some important goals
Peter Crouch - 7 - He played in all our league games last season, as well as being a great plan B he is a great team player, probably should score more goals
Jermain Defoe - 8 - Mainly a poacher, but if he finds form he is unstoppable

Tottenham Hotspur

Goalkeepers:
Heurelho Gomes - 9 - After a dodgy start in the shirt, he has gone on to be an utterly top class keeper. Only his kicking lets him down.
Carlo Cudicini - 6 - Doesn't fill me with confidence despite not making many blunders in his career.

Centre-backs:
Younes Kaboul - 6 - A versatile CB that can play across the back 4 if needed. Solid but lacks positioning awareness.
Sebastien Bassong - 7 - Cover for King and could well become the next if he can learn to read the game more quickly.
Michael Dawson - 9 - For me, the one CB we can rely on this season. An England captain in the making.
Ledley King - 7 - No one denies his ability. Except for the club physio.
Jonathan Woodgate - 1 - Pretty much guaranteed to retire.

Full-backs:
Alan Hutton - 3 - I want him sold. He's just not good enough.
Gareth Bale - 9 - Has become our main threat, even when in defence. Fantastic player.
Vedran Corluka - 7 - The smooth operator. Cool, composed, possibly having a cuban cigar at half time. That's our Corky.
Benoit Assou-Ekotto - 7 - As Tunney said, a penalty waiting to happen, but usually solid.

Midfielders:
David Bentley - 7 - With Lennon, he was never going to be a starter in my mind. I think he adds a different side to the game when he's playing. Not necessarily a very 'Tottenham' side, but an effective one nonetheless.
Tom Huddlestone - 8 - The new Glenn Hoddle. Can hit a two pence piece from 60 yards.
Aaron Lennon - 9 - Working on his crossing and it shows. Did well in terms of assists last season and was one of the top wingers in the league.
Jermaine Jenas - 5 - Usually the background man, and that's where he should stay.
Wilson Palacios - 8 - The General. Pretty much the kind of player we were missing since Edgar Davids. The steel in midfield.
Luka Modric - 9 - In demand for a reason. Skillful, great vision, and a hard worker. You get a sense of great loyalty from him too.
Niko Kranjcar - 8 - Bargain. He is great either on the left, or providing the driving force in the centre of midfield, feeding the forward line quickly.
Jamie O'Hara - 6 - Became Pompey's star player. Not like that's saying much. Not needed, but a good player all the same.
Sandro -? - Never seen him play. Supposedly another player in the Palacios mould.

Forwards:
Giovani Dos Santos - 7 - If he sorts out his attitude, Harry will play him, and should that happen, we've saved ourselves £10/15m on a new striker. Has undoubtable potential. He just needs to learn that being a professional footballer comes at a price.
Roman Pavlyuchenko - 6 - Probably our most 'technical' striker when Robbie Keane is off form.
Robbie Keane - 6 - Hopefully after his very successful pre-season, he has recaptured his form. He has certainly been given enough gametime to do so.
Peter Crouch - 7 - Offers height up field but despite common belief, does not mean we automatically hoof it to him. "He's got a good touch, for a big man".
Jermain Defoe - 8 - On form, he's a goal machine. Off form, you wouldn't know he's playing. Until he's flagged for offside.

Goalkeepers

Manuel Almunia - 7 - He has talent, but he's let down by the defence way more than he makes his own mistakes. By no means a world beater or anywhere near, but also not as bad as people make out.

Lukasz Fabianski - 1 - He needs to be sold or loaned. He chokes in virtually every game, he can't defend against set pieces, he looks shaky when receiving passes and he's just a massive liability.

Wojciech Szczesny - N/A - Hasn't had a chance to show his worth against top opposition.

Vito Mannone - 5 - Not had a chance to prove himself bar the few games he played toward the tail of last season, and the odd game in the Champions League. Started badly, but steadily improved and hopefully a good prospect for the future.

Fullbacks
Gael Clichy - 7 - Good going forward and has pace in spades, not as good defensively as he is going forward, but is solid enough for 90% of the time.

Bacary Sagna - 7 - Delivers some good balls into areas where forwards should be but is often let down by other players poor positioning. Works hard and is a reliable defender.

Kieran Gibbs - 5 - Too early to make a proper assessment, a raw player that needs an extended run of games against competitive opposition.

Emmanuel Eboué - 6 - A handy player to have when Sagna needs a rest but nothing more. Not a starter but good enough to be a back up player who can play in numerous positions.

Armand Traoré - N/A - Hasn't had many games bar a few chances when Clichy and Gibbs were both out, looked mainly shaky but is still young, has a decent amount of pace.

Centre-Backs

Thomas Vermaelen - 10 - Bar a mistake or two against Barcelona and 1 or 2 unimportant errors he has been flawless, and what's more has offered at the other end of the pitch as well. A great buy and easily in the top 10 CB's of the Premier League.

Laurent Koscielny - N/A - New signing with only 1 season's worth of top flight football under his belt. Made a glaring mistake in pre-season.

Johan Djourou - 3 - Stricken with injuries and needs to step up to the challenge this season. Very much unproven but time is slipping away for him to make an impression.

Midfield

Cesc Fabregas - 10 - One of the best midfielders in the world and still improving. Can change a game with his clever passing, movement and set piece work. Good striker of the ball as well and a great organizer, motivator and captain. Has never given less than 100%.

Abou Diaby - 4 - One of the best of a bad bunch, goes a few games showing amazing skills and technical ability, only to go numerous successive games with absolutely no desire to do anything other than give away possession. Takes bad shots and runs into defenders way too much.

Samir Nasri - 8 - Skillful, has good passing and shooting ability, he also has a bad temper which could see him getting a lot of cards if not careful. Possible replacement for Fabregas.

Tomas Rosicky - 6 - Too injury prone to be given a higher mark. If he stayed fit for a whole season he'd be a very important player but is unable to be relied on due to his brittle bones.

Denilson - 3 - Absolute passenger in most games that he plays in. Barring two excellent goals in his Arsenal career he hasn't done very much else. Not a good defensive midfielder and not a good central or attacking midfielder either, doesn't fit anywhere.

Alex Song - 7 - Continually improving but nowhere near finished yet.

Aaron Ramsey - 5 - Still not much more than a prospect. His season was cut short by a sickening injury but should make a return sometime this season.
Jack Wilshere - 6 - Prospect that needs to show he can cut it at Arsenal this season.

Theo Walcott - 5 - Excellent pace but doesn't know whether to pass or shoot, very, very often mixing up one with the other or simply running into a defender and giving the ball away. His potential is undoubtable and he shows glimpses of brilliance. Unfortunately these glimpses are accompanied by massive periods of ****.

Forwards

Robin Van Persie - 8 - Excellent forward just back from the World Cup Final. His goals will be essential for Arsenal's title charge this season, a very important player plagued by injury troubles. If he can stay fit then his skill, strength and shooting will be invaluable. Also a master of the dead ball.

Carlos Vela - 5 - Great pace and trickery but needs to start performing consistently.

Andrei Arshavin - 7 - Amazing talent when he can be bothered to turn up. Seems to have attitude / commitment issues and need to show us more of what we know he can do. Lacks mettle.

Marouane Chamakh - N/A - Big and strong player with a great first touch and ability to play others in, can also finish and should be expected to do good things this season.

Nicklas Bendtner - 8 - Stepped up to the challenge last season when injuries were rife. Played numerous games with injury and still managed to perform. Scored more goals with less shots than Robin van Persie last season and a genuine talent who will only get better. Wastes chances but is still young and learning.

Some rather generous marks in there - Modric as world class? I can haz wacky baccy too please? ;)
You can always nit pick on something as trivial as threads like this. I hardly sat there for hours working out a mathematical formula :p

Maybe Gomes should only be a 9 but apart from that I think one or two you could pinch 0.5 a point off. Apart from that not too biased.

Yes I stand by my comment of Modric being world class. He's the classiest player in our squad and I think the one who could play in any team in the Prem.

So does he. Cole knows the number on Lennon's back better than his face.

:D

Andrei Arshavin - 7 - Amazing talent when he can be bothered to turn up. Seems to have attitude / commitment issues and need to show us more of what we know he can do. Lacks mettle.

I'd give him a 9 if he could consistently play like that. Amazing pace to keep up with walcott for the last goal!

"The luxury player is a thing of rare beauty
Never encumbured by feelings of duty
He'd walk round the pitch with an air of distain
As he made up his mind about joing the game
And just at the moment you decided to hate him
For being feckless, lazy and utterly frustating
He'd get hold of the ball and transform the game
With football so brilliant you'd be chanting his name"
