Cole is the best LB in the World but what people seem to forget is that he does get done as much as anyone.

It's your Chelski's that bang on about how excellent he is constantly that allow people to then jump on any mistakes he makes.

I like him as a player I think he's excellent but to go on like he's infallible brings the doubters out in force when he does make a mistake.

I still wouldn't have him over Pat.

This thread just highlights the delusion of drunkenmaster, Song, a 7? wilshire a 6 with THeo on a 5, Sagna a 7, diaby a 6, Rooney a 10, Vidic a 10, Valencia a 9, Nani a 8, Fletcher anything about a 5, Carrick above a 5.

fixed :D

I know you have a soft-spot for Bendtner, but that he only did as well as a player who was out for months/played poorly whilst lacking match fitness/pratice speaks volumes. That's not even considering the fact that Van Persie is no lone-striker (for my money he's a withdrawn second-striker style player) so he was effectively being played out of position in Wenger's system.

And it may well be the case that Bendtner had a comparable scoring record to Van Persie, but from fewer shots. However statistics won't show that the majority of Bendtner's efforts would have been from inside the penalty area where you would expect the chance to be converted, whereas Van Persie will often shoot speculatively from long range. Now if you look at that on a purely empircal level it might induce deluded people to suggest that Van Persie is more wasteful than Bendtner, but that long-range threat forces defenders to come and close down Van Persie before he shoots. This often creates a hole in the back 4 that you so often see Fabregas (or even Diaby on occasion) bursting into, which is one of the reasons the interplay between RVP and Fabregas is so incisive. Fabregas is a much better player with RVP in the team.

It's a nebulous thing I'm getting at, something you can only perceive by watching the whole 90 minutes of every game the team plays, but Bendtner misses more chances than Van Persie does when you would objectively expect a top striker to score. There can be no doubt that Van Persie is a better player than Bendtner, you're mad if you think otherwise.

You obviously don't understand the concept of going passed (as in taking a player on) WITH the ball then.

Gustov, you talk almost as much drivel as DM.

Cashley is the best LB in the world, but Evra is very, very close behind him. I don't know how you can keep going on, when the difference is so, so marginal.

It's PAST. How can you expect people to understand the points you are trying to make when you can't even articulate?

Seeing as you were able to correct me, I'm pretty sure that people could have understood the concept. I'm more than articulate too, just a mistake thanks.

you can't even ****ing spell the concept...

Says the guy who can't start a sentence with a capital letter. I can be just as pedantic if you want :)

Even though in the final few games of the season Harry was testing Lennon on the right wing and Bale on the left? Bale is much better at going forward than he is defending so I can't see why you would object to playing him as an out and out winger.

I didn't say Evra isn't the second best in the world in his position. I actually believe he is. Regardless, I still think A.Cole is a significantly better player, they're evenly matched going forward but defensively Cole wins hands down for me.

As I've already said, going forward no, I don't think Cole's any better, I'd say they're evenly matched. But defensively yes, I believe Cole is better by quite a margin. I find it very amusing people saying I'm talking drivel when the majority agree that Cole is the superior player, you'd have thought I said Evra was crap!

I certainly don't object, but the truth of the matter is that he's just as good when playing at leftback. And if that means also allowing Modric or Kranjcar on the left wing then I'm all for it.

Bale/Modric linking up on the left with Lennon/Corluka linking up on the right = faptastic.

I think in the long run, he'll be played at left-back with a playmaker/right-footed player in-front of him. The left midfielder will naturally want to cut inside, taking the opposing full with him, and thus giving Bale the time and space he needs.

The great thing about Bale is that he's tall, strong, quick and has plenty of stamina. Even when he bursts forwards he does a very good job of getting back into position.

It'll a lot easier to mark him out of the game if he plays left wing.

On an unrelated point, why does everyone assume that the best LB in the world plays in England? Neither Evra or Cole shone during the World Cup.

If you want to start listing names we're all ears!

England and France were dire collectively. As a full back it's hard to really influence the game unless your team mates are playing well. Juxtaposed to a striker for example who can play terribly all game but have a huge influence in the game by scoring a tap in or a center midfielder who can run the midfield even if the defense are having a bad day.

Getting bored of Gustov just going on about Cashley now. Lahm actually is a left back too iirc, just played out of position for Germany (although can pretty much play both).
