"The luxury player is a thing of rare beauty
Never encumbured by feelings of duty
He'd walk round the pitch with an air of distain
As he made up his mind about joing the game
And just at the moment you decided to hate him
For being feckless, lazy and utterly frustating
He'd get hold of the ball and transform the game
With football so brilliant you'd be chanting his name"

So true :)

I love that little Russian I just wish he'd play to his potential more often. Like it says in that little poem, the moment you feel like giving up on him he comes up with something truly special. That acute angle goal he scored last year, the goal against united and the time he ripped Liverpool a new one will always be remembered by me.

You lot don't seem to be grasping the concept of going past, I'm not talking about running past Cole, receiving a pass from a team mate and being futher advanced down the touchline.

I'm talking about taking the ball passed Cole (as in actually going round him with the ball)

Of which Valencia didn't do once today and as I say you'll be lucky if you ever see it...

Please start watching Cole more closely and take note how many times a player goes passed him WITH the ball.

He had a bad game in a glorified friendly, big deal. He's the most consistent defensively of any LB you could put forward and as good as any other going forward. He's a **** which goes against him and clouds a lot of peoples view of him.

Ah, so it's fine if his position is **** and he lets the winger take up a position between him and the goal, which Cole did at least twice today. I understand your meaning of "best left back in the world" now.

How many times has Evra been caught out? Or any other player in any other position?

We can all come up with examples of players making mistakes but because Cole had a bad game he's suddenly a bad player?

Agreed, unfortunately as much of a **** that is he, he is probably the best left back in the world...then probably Evra - not sure who next. Today his positioning was a mile off, oh well.

You can keep going on, but it's pretty common knowledge that he's the best in the business in his position. You're entitled to think otherwise but you're no doubt in the minority. Also as a LB you're bound to have a winger run inside you throughout the game, the best defense in the world can't play a perfect line all the time.

To be honest, I see Evra caught out defensively quite often , I admit he's got his uses going forward but I think comparing him to Cole defensively is baffling.

I'd give him a 9 if he could consistently play like that. Amazing pace to keep up with walcott for the last goal!

It's frustrating he's lazy. Not only that notice the first goal - played sort of across him but his strike was roughly on target. I can remember at least 3 or 4 occasions last year where he was in a similar position, with the ball played to him and he skied it. He does miss a good few easy chances.

Yes he did, on more than one occasion, unless of course it only counts if it ends up in a goal....

Who's saying that? It's Gustov's no one ever gets the better of the invincible Ashley Cole that people are taking question with

As I said earlier in the thread, Gustov goes over the top however people are using Cole's performance yesterday as some sort of evidence that he's not the best LB in the world.
