RC cars

Unlikely any real profit can be made from Tamiya kits. Certainly the mainstream ones like the Clod.

The car in my sig would have been knocking on for £1500+ new in box before it was re-released.

Some of the kits I have are already worth much more than when I bought them but they are mostly from the smaller manufacturers.

Yes it's dual motors. I'm going to look for a couple of 19T Super Stocks to put in it :D

I used to drool over the Clod when I was a nipper, watching the Tamiya videos on loop in Beatties. Mum said I could only have a Hornet or Frog, bought the Frog and I think it was an acoms Techniplus and vaguely remember the crystal set was blue :D

FAV was another favourite and the tanks.

Had a Tamiya Hornet back in the day.

But the car I most remember was a Marui Ninja which was my brothers. Plonked a racing motor in it and an 8.4v battery. Was 4wd so no wheely issues.

It used to shift :)

I built a Hyper ST Pro kit inspired by the Ninja and the A team truck.

Loved Beatties, as a kid I remember everyone having these bags: -

Mine contains a Tamiya Striker. :p

A mate still carries his racing gear in one of those :)

Marui Shogun was my favourite. Mint Marui cars fetch a premium price these days .

I had an electric Kyosho Escort Cosworth RS in the 90s. Building it was an absolute joy, probably moreso than driving it as the front suspension always snapped. Would like to do something on a bigger scale e.g. kit car or something.

I always wanted that Escort!

Have you considered something like a Baja Buggy?

That was the one! I remember disabling the front wheel drive trying to make it faster off the line against my friend's Tamiya VW Golf VR6.

The Baja Buggy looks like fun and interesting to build.

I have had the Baja ss - it's a nice car but is not that fast out of the box. That said you can fit bigger engines but may need to upgrade the drivetrain.

MCD do some good 1:5 4wd petrol cars but they ain't cheap.

Just prepare your wallet as large scale is expensive.

You might be better off with a 1:8 nitro kit but there isn't that may these days as most come RTR/ARTR.

You can still buy the ST Pro though https://www.modelsport.co.uk/hobao-hyper-st-truggy-pro/rc-car-products/28366

It's a fantastic car and easy enough to convert to electric. But with the kit you will need to buy everything- engine, serves, radio gear etc.

Here is one I built years ago.

I have a near five year old who loves his remote controlled toys - but the thing is most have been bought by well-meaning grandparents and are never up to that much when it comes to performance/endurance, so whilst they're fun, it's limited.

So, whilst perhaps a step down from the discussions above, what's something semi-decent (let's assume that if it can last a few years I'd be happy to spend around £100) that could perhaps be used for off-road/garden terrain (as this is a place where the cheaper stuff just can't move).

I saw that modelsport was linked to above and they have a dizzying array of vehicles on offer, and I've no real idea as to what I am actually looking at and what would do the job, and what would be complete over-kill...

Any suggestions/guidance very welcome!

Does anyone here 3D print spare parts for their cars? I've got an old discontinued XTM Rage (Brushless version) which has a broken suspension arm and replacements are no longer available. Wondering if a printed part would be strong enough as binning the whole car seems such a waste and I'm surely lad would enjoy it.
