RC cars

Long time bump for this thread!

Got myself a 2nd hand Losi 8ight-t 2.0 RC Nitro Truggy - not been run for a while but overall in excellent condition.

Comes with everything I need and despite having a reasonable background with drones/engines etc - I can't get the thing started on the starter box. Starter box is aligned well but the blue flywheel on the bottom of the engine/chassis just won't turn over at all. Starter box wheel spins up but just won't turn the flywheel on the Truggy. Seems very solid.

Would heating it with hairdryer work?

Sounds like the engine maybe stuck top dead centre if the engine has not been broken In the piston and sleeve will still have a mechanical pinch

My advice would be remove the engine from the car then remove the head off the engine youl want a 2.5mm hex driver and and then try turning the flywheel and try lift the the sleeve out slightly to free it off

Also I don't reccomend wd40 youl be better off with 3 in 1 oil

When you put it back together try getting as much heat on the engine before starting it to expand the sleeve and run it rich

cheers - will give it a go. I'm going to grab a heat gun tomorrow from lidl (£9.99). Will keep you gents posted.

a little progress. Heat is for sure your friend!!

I heated the engine to about 200/220 with a heat gun and it appears to have "unstuck" the engine. So with no glow plug in and putting it on the starter box, the piston appears to turn over ok and blue flywheel spins fairly freely.

Glow plug back in (glow plug works fine as it burns bright on it's own) - try to fire it up but still appears to "stick" - it's hard to keep that temp up and try and start it.

I'm stripped engine out and align it on the starter box so it should be fine there but still no fire. I've ordered a new glow plug and new fuel so will try again later in the week.

Did you prime the engine? Before you put your igniter over the plug put your thumb over the exhaust and run on the box so the engine sucks up some fuel in the carb

yeah - should be primed as I used the other option of "blowing" fuel to the carb via the pipes. Also when I fired it without the glow plug - fuel did slightly "blow" out the top of the engine.

I'll keep plugging away - can't wait to get it fired for the first time! Driving me nuts!:p

I'm at my wits end with my RC car, suddenly the throttle control has stopped working but the steering is fine. If I swap the steering to channel 2 on the receiver then the throttle works using the steering on the transmitter but the throttle won't control the steering. I've already stupidly replaced the ESC and motor thinking that was the problem (before I tried swapping channels). What could it be? Knackered transmitter possibly?

Sounds like the transmitter is stuffed.

Before buying a new transmitter just double check the receiver connections and make sure they are in channel 1 and 2 and not battery and channel 3 etc.....

If the above is all good then I'd say deffo transmitter.

Be a relief if it is, even though it's new it's a cheapo hobbyking transmitter so I'll go at it with a soldering iron. Cheers.

Does sound like the throttle trigger isn't connected.

Dropped in here to see if anyone has a 1/28 Sinohobby MiniQ? I've got one sat in the box for nearly 2 years. Bought on a whim... Afraid to open it because I'll be up to 2am researching aluminium upgrades. Got next weekend to myself so thinking of taking it with me to hoon about with while my FPV/quad batteries recharge

Turns out the receiver was shagged. I plugged in a Turnigy i6s with it's own receiver and it works fine now, only problem is I can't get reverse for some reason, despite setting the end points on the ESC.
