So AMD WILL be 'giving their cards away' RIP AMD :D

they cant really chase market share from current position.. because pricing is dynamic, if nvidia decides to slash prices amd would be saddled with an unreasonably large inventory that would eat into their cash flows
to engage in any kind of price war amd should be in the range of 40:60 or 45:55 market share vs. nvidia, right now the dont have the flexibility
and lets say if they announce "cheap" prices without inventory to back.. i dont need to elaborate on how this is going to play out
Why not? the aggressive pricing worked for them with zen > zen 2 CPUs with intel sitting at almost 80% and AMD around 20% when zen came out. Also if AMDs cards are cheaper to produce then nvidia cannot cut prices as much as AMD and still remain profitable plus it means a tonne of ampere stock being written off which would hit nvidias profits hard.

It would be nice for something to shake things up a bit, all got so stale and just seems to be stagnating PC gaming. Even the YouTubers seem to be struggling for content

Yup I'm really hoping amd/rdna 3 does great as with what nvidia have done with the 40xx line up, they need a good kick up the ass now. I'm not asking for very much, all I want is the following:

- FSR 2.1.1+ to be adopted far quicker and in more games (will come with time obviously but waiting months/years is simply not good enough)
- RT performance to be better than ampere by at least 20%
- price to be no more than £850

- ideally a competitor to frame generation but not a deal breaker atm.....

i had stated earlier in this thread that amd can engage in a price war from current position but for that they would need a much superior product.. like the zen 1 was positioned for MT performance, what it translates to is AMD having the stomach to leapfrog a GPU generation, because you cant plan for huge capex outlays in a high lead time environment without having strong conviction in product superiority..
the nvidia vs amd equation is a lot different than how amd was positioned against intel when they were designing the zen 1.. (which must have been a couple or more years before the first shipping date)

They will have a superior product if they price similar to last gen as nvidia don't even have any 4000 series cards for under £1300 so AMD would be competing with ampere.

Not looking good when you start a post with this was sent to me by a friend! Certainly not from one of the approved lists...

LOLZ.

So for example AMD is going to sell their 80 card for about half of what NV is?

It's Halloween not April Fools day!

No but do try to remember that the 3080 MSRP was $699, the 4080 MSRP is $1199, its near doubled in just one generation, that's something Nvidia did.

I think the April fools joke is nvidia thinking they can get away with charging double over their previous gen 80 tier while also using a heavily cut down die.

True.

However they have got away with nearly everything else since Turing. Including this 2K montrosity with an awful cheapo power connector.

I cannot imagine the uproar if this were a first-to-market AMD card...
