Looking forward to the new cards, not that I'm planning on upgrading but you never know what might happen. One too many beers and somehow something ends up in your basket (if there is any stock of course)! :) For me personally I'm more interested in how it stacks up against their own last (current) gen cards. I'm not looking at nvidia vs amd (or at least not top of my personal list of priorities). I think if the new cards turn out good numbers, perform well with good energy usage then that is a winner for me. At the end of the day we all just want to game.

Better position this year as in current gen cards are strong enough for all games, scalpers - miners - retailers shouldn't be able to make bank, recession all point to price drops as the year ticks over like it used to be where 'offers' and 'sales' existed. Might entertain a 7900 if its an improvement over what I have but no rush or need to change right now.

So what do we reckon then....

Amd are going to trounce 40xx hence the lack of leaks?

Or

If silence, it means they will be just as bad or worse?

Take your pick :D

Ultimately now is the time for amd to start leaking or move forward their schedule given nvidias announcement, especially with nvidias stock decreasing since the news.... would be a further blow if amd have something very competitive.

IMHO it all depends on how much stock they have left.
Lots of cards to be sold? Better to keep mum and clear the inventory.

Inventory getting low? Get ready for the new and shiny RDNA3!

November might be when we cross that inventory threshold...

They got burnt badly last time, I think it was the 290x. They had to buy it all back because it couldn't be sold.

They are not Nvidia so they can't force anyone to sell cards. They were probably conservative because they know the gravy train won't last and they don't want a repeat of last time. (Assuming they were smart about it)

If AMD has something good they really should try to take advantage this time seeing the disappointment Nvidia just revealed

AMD will take advantage of us the same as NVIDIA have. £100 price difference at the low end and £200 at the higher end. It'll have worse RTX performance and inferior upscaling technology. Probably more VRAM.

And I’ll laugh at them as well.

My 970 is struggling though may see what I can find for under £300 and call it done

You should just get yourself a Steam Deck. You don't even have to wait that long now, about a month, although I reckon pre-orders might start picking up again after the ridiculous Nvidia pricing.

See above.

Do you want F1 2022 to run at 400fps rather than 200fps and does it matter if the 4090 runs it at 440fps rather than the 7900 at 400fps? :D

The review sites with Nvidia bias will be an interesting read to see what games they cherry pick for the 4090 review, would not surprise me if someone tries 8k/VR justification over standard 1440p/4k gaming.

Apart from Warhammer 3, I don't know what the 'system sellers' are gonna be for the 4090 over a 7900. Avatar? Cyberpunk is a wonderful demo but does anyone play it anymore to care?

So yeah, I think the 4090 will run away with it against the 7900 in limited set of games and pre-set scenarios setup by the Nvidia PR machine (see; Control and DLSS/RT for the 3090) but at what cost is the question, both for $$$, heat, power and also reliability (in the 4090 AIB models).

The Powercolor 7900XT liquid devil for me seems to be the card to look out for I think, the way things are shaping up, with EVGA out of the picture, with the Sapphire 7800XT Nitro OC behind it. It's a shame as I am sure the 4080 Classified/4090 hydro-coppers would have been a sweet thing.
