Speaking of HDR who here likes it? i recently upgraded my screen, i don't like it, looks ok on my TV for TV stuffs but games on my monitor my reaction is eww.... and it gets turned off.
Do you have some examples of games with HDR? Because the only example in my mind is Shadow Warrior 2....

Developers - it saves a **** ton of time which in return will save project budget
I mentioned this to you before, you need stop over exaggerating the amount of time it saves and giving people a false expectation.

Next time you're outside at night in a lit up town with puddles, take a good look at them puddles or better yet google search "reflections" to see that a lot of the time, reflections can in fact be very reflective  :p

In terms of "darkness", with RT (when done right and from the ground up), it gives developers far better control over lighting and removes the limitations associated with raster/raster+RT, metro ee shows this well:

I don't know if it is your settings or a limitation of the game engine, but both RT images look like they have an extra light source that isn't present in the hybrid version.

Ironically the RT image appears to lack "atmosphere", due to being brighter than the hybrid but that's a different argument

I like it, and the best thing about it is that it has no performance cost, I only enable it when gaming though.

Eventually I hope games and Windows are able to activate HDR without you having to manually enable it in Windows first.

I'm yet to try it. Funny enough the only true HDR screen I have is on my iPhone. Not sure what content I could access on it, that would give my a proper representation of what HDR is like.

They do.... Its a Free-Sync Premium screen, all my HDR games do detect its HDR and switch it on when you start the game, even the screens OSD notifies you of that, i don't have it on the desktop, i tried the Windows 11 force HDR on desktop and didn't like that either.

I've not seen it on a high end monitor but HDR on an OLED TV is fantastic. I think the issue is not with HDR but that the monitor manufacturers as a whole do a poor job of implementing it.

I have a HDR 600 32" 4K monitor and even though it is not true HD I can see a good difference between HDR on vs off. WD: L, HZD, Elden Ring are some of the games I used recently where HDR makes a noticeable difference.

Some people think it's just the same as turning up the vibrance but that just destorys coulur transition and so on. HDR gives a more vibrant and contrasting look without oversaturating colours, or crushing dark greys into blacks etc, or just giving a washed out look.

Exactly this.

Anyone who says HDR is crap or not impressive etc. just hasn't seen a proper HDR display where you have self emissive pixels or FALD.

Tell that to the ones who develop the games.... it is them who have stated the time savings, not me, one scene with one type of lighting from 4a enhanced:

4a enhanced also sent some footage to DF/Alex to show their workflow of one area/level.

There are multiple other "game" developers who have stated how much time is required with raster to get good results with lighting etc. too.

Unless you have something that proves otherwise?

Not my screenshots, taken from DF comparison:

When you play the game and see what your light sources are and the way the environment interacts, it feels entirely natural and far more atmospheric, so much that I finished it second time round.

Oh for sure it looks different, i persevered with it for a couple of hours last night in Destiny 2, because i have the ####'ing thing, i paid for it so maybe i can learn to like it, but no, colours and strong and vibrant, blacks are deep... all that, but it doesn't look natural and the blacks are too dark, the screen has Black Stabilizer and Black Level which help but the whole thing overall still looks like a laminated Van Gogh creation.

Yep. I am playing God of War right now and the difference with it on and off is night and day. Huge upgrade to IQ. This was also the case with HZD which I completed somewhat recently.

About to pre-order Spider-man Miles Morales for £30.99 and will probably be playing that next which seems to be another title that is great for HDR. It does have a lot less content than the Spider-Man that came out recently but I played that already on the PS4 Pro a few years ago so did not bother with it on PC. Most of the extra hours is filler stuff anyways. Plus I hear this will have better graphics and there are mods too :)
