Rear Ended

Hi Tesla, sorry I wasn;t about when you hit me on MSN last night.

Sucks that after not having your car that long some numpty goes and does that. I actually nearly had a peugeot 306 crash into the back of my car yesterday, I had stopped to give way at a roundabout when I heard skidding, and looked behing to see this pug coming towards me, obviously with it's brakes locked, and two chavvy looking blokes in baseball caps laughing their heads of.... why on earth would someone find the fact they are skidding towards another car funny? Luckilly I left a few feed extra space so pulled foreward... they stopped about where my rear bumper would have been had I not moved.

Anyway, I've recently used helphire (admittedly only for a minor claim, the bill for repair work came to about £700) an dhave nothing but praise for them. I didn't have to pay my excess, theonly think I had to do was pay out £2 per day for a collision damage waiver on the hire car they supplied me with, and £10 to buy into an insurance plan which covers me in case the 3rd party didn't cough up.

I'd take on board what Adz says, but from the positive comments I've read both on here and elsewhere I'd put it down to it being an odd case.

You can call helphire on 0500 224455 if you like and describe the accident to them, they'll tell you if they can help or not (they only help when you are not at fault, which sounds the case with your accident). The only hassel being if you do go with helphire as soon as you're done on the phone to them you'll have to phone your insurers to stop the clai and tell them you are sorting it through other means as you can't claim for it twice!

Thanks Pete.

I am liking the look of Mk3 Mondeo, the interior in yours looks amazing so if you have any more pics you want to send my way that would be ace (click sig for email or stick them in the gallery).

I am waiting on a call back from helphire and NUD/Asda Legal team today.
I am going to inform the Asda legal people that I am seeking help elsewhere but will try and find out his insurer first.

Helphire said they pass my info to admin who then process it on the system and will then call me back. The only issue so far is that I don't know the other guys insurer so they said they will have to find that out, I am quite sure he is as the last owner change on his vehicle was 2002 so he must have had to of bought tax in that time.

What are the chances of getting a hire car sent to me today?

My back and neck are aching today, yesterday it was coming and going but today it is constant. It's not a severe pain but as it's constant so it's pretty annoying. I have an interesting work arrangement tomorrow where by I am working with a chap for free and he is going to show me a lot of things regarding aerials and signals. I hope the ache doesnt persist as I will be doing lots of ladder climbing and lifting tomorrow.

I am expecting them to write it off, if I get the option to buy her back relatively cheaply I will as lots of people on the owners club would appreciate bits and it would be better to be broken on there than squashed by a big crusher.

Sorry to hear about the car, can't belive the van mans response though.

Just because someone stops you don't go ploughing into them, he was probably too busy looking at something else. Bloody tool.

Looking at the damage and your complaints about aching, he must have hit you with some force?

Were you holding the car on your brakes or hand brake?

Was holding the car on the foot brake, my brake lights were all operational, the car has what's called AWS which alerts me when brake lights are out and I do a visual check once per week. I have a high level break light too.

I think he hit me at full speed, probably 30-40mph on the stretch of road we were on, luckily I am always conscious of my distance from the car infront so didn't get shunted into that.

The way he has bit me, perhaps he was changing lanes and not looking where he was going? The road has 3 lanes on this particular stretch. Perhaps he thought he could drive around me and mis judged it. I think he had a passenger in the van, maybe he was paying more attention to the passenger than the road.

I will probably never know.

I was trying to recreate the scene in my head last night and I don't think he did swear so want to correct myself on that. He however did walk towards me as I walked towards him and said "what you doin' stopped on a busy road for?" He sounded quite angry with me for being stationary.

I felt like saying "What the hell are you doing rear ending people on a busy road for?".
I just kept cool and explained I had to give way to a car blocking the road and had stopped for a couple of seconds before you had hit me.

I knew it wasn't my fault though so had no reason to argue back or get aggresive so left it, he asked for my insurance details which I did provide him with, when I called the police I was informed to do this. I think there is a good chance that he will make up some bull which is why I am so greatful for this chap stopping and giving me his name, address and phone number.

I can assure myself that I had slowed steadily for the obstruction I faced as I was in 1st gear, If I had slammed on the brakes I would have still of been in 4th gear.

All across the top of my back is aching the most today. Neck isn't very bad at all though.

I have uploaded some more pics to the gallery: Here!.

Yeah its great when you have a witness,

Uncle was in a multi story, and had stopped behind someone (about 2/3 car lengths) behind someone as they had stopped and were wondering wether to go to the next level or park into a space next to them.

The fool decided he wanted to park but he had gone quite abit past the bay, so reversed all the way back into my uncle, who couldn't do nothing as someone else was behind him.

The passenger got out and said,

"You want to watch where your going, you do"

I mean wtf, I wonder if some people actually pay attention to what they are doing. Thankfully my uncle also had a witness.

Hope you start to feel better soon though, bad time to happen around Christmas and all.

This will sound really stupid but around this time last year I had my first driving test, I wanted to pass it so much so on Xmas day I could do all the driving to see all the family and mum and dad could have a little xmas drink etc...

Unfortunately I failed my test but passed on 4th Jan, first test of 2005 in the UK .

So I have been waiting almost an entire year to do this, now it has been snatched away from me :(

I know this sounds pathetic but means something to me.

Sorry to hear this mate :(

When I was rear-ended in the Estima last year I went through help-hire and they were great, can't recommend them enough.

Oh, and I was getting pain similar to your description, go ahead with a claim for that, I ended up getting £2k for relatively minor whiplash.

Just emailed you, cheers.

Helphire just contacted me, we are sorting everything.

The lady has to call me back as she is now trying to chase up the chaps insurance details. Finally getting somewhere!

Helphire just called back.

The chap will not tell them his insurance details.

Apparently all of my brake lights are at fault and he has contacted the police regarding this.

Therefore helphire are unable to help :(

Please Advise as I am now very concerned.

I may go and take a pic of the break lights functioning next to a bank statement I received today.

Do you know whether the witness saw the brake lights?
No.

I do have AWS which alerts me of faulty lights though. Guess what? No alerts, also i have just been out to the car and bar the one he broke they all work.

Do that - good idea.

I'll make a telephone call for you after lunch, see if I can help out.

Did the witness see you stopped with your brake lights on? Also - was it at night? You would have had your tail-lights on in that case.

To be honest though - it makes no difference. If you're stopped on the road, you're taught in the driving test to pull up the handbrake and be in neutral anyway, so the brake lights will be off. He still hit a stationary car in the middle of the road.

It just sounds like the guy is trying to wrangle out of his responsibility. He is obliged to tell Helphire his insurance details - and I'd imagine the police won't be very helpful to him if he tries to go through them. I reckon the chances are he actually doesn't have insurance, and is trying to get out of it. Did you get his registration plate at the scene?

I have his registration plate.

I have also checked out his name, address and phone number via BT and it all checks out ok.

Today's bank statement has an earlier date on, I'll get todays newspaper instead.

Merlin you're very kind, thanks.

Jesus christ mate! This is getting nasty :(

Do you think the guy has insurance? He's been incredibly arsey about this whole thing.

What a ******* *****!

Has anybody used RAC accident care? They sound like helphire really.

I'll wait to here from merlin first.
