*** Red Alert 3 ***

Any RA3 demo? (I'm guessing no because of the Beta). I've briefly tried google, but all I got was some crappy mods (god knows what for) titled Red Alert 3 =/

I just got back from the launch party!

I met Gemma (Eva in game) and they had a pretty good event going, took over all of Trafalgar Square.

Unfortunately I was tied up and only managed to get to the launch event in London at 8:55.

It was a big domey thing, about 40 Dell XPS systems all with Red Alert 3 on them and a few X360's in the middle with it playing too.
At the other end of the structure they had a stage and a screen. Looked like it was good, shame I couldn't make it.

Didn't manage to get a goodie bag either. *Pouts*

Don't worry about the goody bag, it was a generic EA bag, nothing RA related at all, it was pretty pants :p

No wonder they went to such expense on promotion and presentation, they really need it.

Th game and gameplay itself is just not deep enough there's no strategy or anything it's the same old spam enough units send to enemy and win and rinse repeat.

The gameplay feels 10 years old.

its getting shocking user reviews, makes me wonder if me and my mates will have a good late night gaming session or not

Yeah you will, cos it's yer mates and playing together is always fun, no matter the game (usually) :p

I’ll give this a go at some point but I doubt it’ll keep my attention for long. Always liked FMV sequences in games though, most games just use the game engine itself or dynamic slideshows…

In fact, I think I’ll go watch the Red Alert 2 FMVs on you tube, so cheesy it’s great :D

Think I'll give this one a miss. They just seemed to have a used a pretty blonde in a short skirt to gloss over an average game. Think I'd rather play RA1 or 2 and watch some porn in between missions.

Really don't understand how the critics and reviewers can give Far Cry 2 and RA3 similar scores to Dead Space given how popular Dead Space is with gamers.

Right, I haven't read the thread and I generally don't play games anymore but I'm throwing my 2p in anyway.

C&C is probably the only game (aside from my brother's copy of Gears of War and the odd game of Civ) I play anymore as I rarely have the time. Red Alert 2 was one of my favourite games when I was younger so getting RA3 and making time to play it was a no brainer. I have a like-minded friend who used to play RA2 with me so we both grabbed a copy of the new game and we had an absolute blast playing through the co-op Soviet missions last night. It's a lot better than I expected, the fmv's are well done and I even laughed out loud during the two Emperor missions. I actually think the graphics are really nice but then again I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to cutting edge polygon pushing.

It's not perfect, the gameplay is nothing you have not seen before (neither is the story) but the navy and alternate functions of the units make it at least as deep as the previous games so why complain? I've spotted a few glitches like units getting stuck on islands and not picking up crates. The most annoying bug so far is some daft pathfinding that takes a little micro to put right, but nothing that has spoiled the game.

I'm looking forward to doing the Allied and Empire missions sometime next week (co-op of course). It's kept me entertained so £27 well spent in my opinion.

just done the first mission for the soviets whilst round at a mates, i think it looks superb with a mix of amazing water/lighting and bright over-the-top troops and vehicles...

so what if it doesnt look like a super detailed realistic game !!! its all tongue in cheek stuff with cheesy FMV we all love fnar fnar, and with the fact you can co-op the campaign means ill probably pick a copy up 2moro ...

it seems these days that too many gamers are overly picky about certain aspects of new releases, gfx dont make a game its the gameplay and if it aint broke then ......

Agree with this. RA3 is a lot better than c+c3 in every way, especially the soundtrack.

Totally agree...RA3 looks and plays superb...

I have to say, I didnt play it for long today, it looks too cartoony, like Generals. The graphics arent particularly great, the controls and viewing is put to shame by games like Supreme Commander.

On the plus note, the cutscenes are fantastic =p
