Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4, Xbox and PC Hopefully)

Wow, my preorder copy from Game finally arrived this morning. Makes me even more glad I just went out to buy it again on Saturday. Not Game's fault though - there's a road with the same name as mine on Hayling Island and it seems to have "Opened in error, delivered to Hayling Island" written on the package, with "Hayling Island" written over repeatedly presumably to try to mask it. Weird. Still, at least it finally arrived but if I wasn't in a position to be able to buy another copy that would've wound me up.

On a different note, I finally got to try the X version on my OLED 4K at home last night, after having pumped about 15 hours into it on a 1080p TV. I am very impressed, looks great. Phone pic of the TV can't do it justice but it is great in reality - the dark areas don't seem to actually look as dark as they do in the pic.

I am literally terrible at robbing trains.

My first attempt resulted in me being dragged under the train and killed because I tried to get onto the train from on foot. I saw the train in Valentine, so I rode along the tracks a little bit until I found a boulder that I could hide behind (just under a little bridge overpass). When the train got near, I jumped out as it passed me and tried to grab it, but I had no prompt to do so. I was mashing X on the pad and in doing so, I ended up jumping into the side of the carriages and got caught in the space between carriages and dragged under lol. So that wasn't fun. I then respawned, and heard the train on the way, so I got onto my horse and tried to catch it using that. I managed to do that and ended up doing some badass carriage-jumping, but then didn't manage to make it to the engine before the next station! It was some crappy little backwater stop that was just a small station in the middle of nowhere. Me on top of the train trying to crouch out of sight drew the looks of passengers at the station, so my attempt was scuppered and I gave up. I waited until the train started moving, and I got onto and into the train, despatched the guards, but then somehow attracted the law even with the train moving?! I don't get that at all. How they knew that I was holding up the train when it was moving is beyond me. They came riding along out of nowhere. Do the train guards and lawmen have mobile phones or something?

So yeah, me and robbing trains is a no-go right now. What's the best way of going about this illicit endeavour?

While I completely understand this, i worry a fair bit about spoilers especially with story heavy games. I try to avoid stuff around a games launch but it reaches a point way too early where outlets etc seem to think the floodgates are open and they can openly discuss the game.

If you're concerned about that then just get it now. I tend to stay a year behind so that I always get games on sale, but I don't usually have issues avoiding spoilers as I don't read/watch that many articles/videos about gaming.

One exception is a fairly big mechanic of Nier Automata that got spoiled when I was looking for reviews of it a few months ago, so there is always that risk.

Ditto, it's the same feel as the first game but just on a grander scale, which is great as the first was a masterpiece.

Im finding myself playing this for 3/4 hours a night and only progressing 0.5/1% of completion rate at a time.

What stuff do you do to progress at that rate and time you play?

I want to try and slow down on the main missions, hunting is good fun but I don't like doing that all the time.

As much as I love this game, I cant help but feel that there is so much room for improvement in this game, and that it will be patched and matched to surpass Witcher 3, Witcher 3 was a great game and all the tweaks and UI interface changes to it made it much more user friendly and an even better game - RDR2 has so much potential to be amazing.

Is it wrong to put this game off and wait for patches? I want to enjoy it, but I want to enjoy it at it's fullest, if that makes sense

I think you'd be waiting for changes that will never come, personally. Aside from bug fixes, small improvements and perhaps a bit of added content, the focus will be on the online aspect. The game won't be markedly different 6 months from now, that's almost for certain.

looks poor.

Fake HDR on XB1?

I was looking to get this on the XB1X so any opinions on this would be interesting, but tbh I don't see it being an issue.

Obvious PC troll is obvious

Your contributions to this thread, in the console forum, have only been to bash it on console. Why don't you move along?

I don't understand some people, maybe they weren't given enough attention as children. That or they still are children which would explain it!

i think it looks poor. looks like a oil painting.

sorry.

Yeah it's difficult to capture it properly with a camera, it looks much better in reality. I own a decent PC myself with a 1080Ti so I'm used to having half decent graphics but that doesn't stop me being impressed at how the X is handling this game.

Only other platform I've seen it on is the base PS4 and that also impressed me. Looked and ran a lot better than I expected it to.

That looks stunning IMO. Colours really pop. I guess that's the OLED at play? Jelly!
