Refuse to buy a 1070 at current pricing

I am doubting that 970 owners are the target for the 1070 as the price increase over the generation just doesn't make sense.

Nv aren't stupid, they would have seen how popular the 970 was/is and would price it's possible replacement at or around the same level, which leads me to think that something like a 1060/1060ti is the 970 successor.

1 million cards sold at £280 > 500k cards sold at £400.

I would pay £350 for one as I need it for 3d graphics stuff but its never going to get that low  it should be around that price second hand but they are not going to sell for less that £500 second had I think

I have a 970 and yeah i'm not going to get a 1070 not a big enough step for what I use it for. Would consider a titan X if the price was right for the 12GB of ram. I use my card for 50 percent gaming and 50 percent 3d work.

The 1060 isn't likely to be much of an upgrade from the 970.

If they price the 1060 at £280, they just have another overpriced card on their hands.

Blah, blah.

Everything you say is made completely redundant when you think you are getting good value because you are comparing the Titan-x to the 1070 price point. Exactly what Nvidia want you think.

There is no point in explaining anything to you, if you can't see what Foxeye is saying there is very little to be gained by repeating it.

I was thinking more like that the 1060 will be the "970" of pascal, IE the big mass market seller that offers the best bang for buck, I think the 1070 has been moved up a notch this gen.

970 owners won't upgrade this time would be my guess, most are probably still on 1080p and playing everything fine. Also judging by the VR test they don't need an upgrade so could plough any potential GPU budget into a VR headset instead.

So it looks like the problem is again UK/EU pricing.

In the US:

Gigabyte G1 1070 is $429
EVGA ACX3.0 1070 is $419

Yep, been said loads but ignored for some odd reason. Obvious retail gouging is obvious but that doesn't suit arguments.

And yer, I do see a lot of self entitlement, which might seem a harsh thing to say but there is many other cards out that can quite easlily do a fantastic job of playing games and if people think this or the 1080 is too pricey, maybe look to cheaper alternatives or just vote with their wallets.

Yup. Gigabyte G1 should be £360 after exchange + VAT by those numbers and that is where i was expecting the decent aftermarket cards to sit ( around the £350 mark).

Methinks u have no answer.how do u measure value to come to your conclusion ? :D.
TX's also sold well at the £900+ price, even very recently. So it's not as if the 1070 can be compared against something that never sold well.
I'm aware of what the other poster said but there's different ways to look at things.
1070 decent value compared to 1080 too, for the performance deficit - ha ha ha

You also have no idea if here's something Nvidia's side that's causing the higher price too. Many are looking at the price point only and complaining. Might be a bigger picture? Because we''ll never know the full picture it's best to use the best facts around to compare with,ie, previous gen cards especially as lack of competition around.
Buy one, you know you want to :D

Seems the issue is a lack of supply. I've not seen many questions being asked add to why Nvidia can't get many cars on the shelf. Issues with yield, hence the high prices? Artificially restricting supply to create a feeding frenzy "Omg sold out must buy" atmosphere. Clever thinking if it is.

Indeed

All I can think of is this:

Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

People without good sense or judgement will have no hesitation in tackling a situation that even the wisest would avoid.

I don't mind paying extra to get new cards on launch day but only if they are what I really need.

If I am going to watercool the cards then launch day reference cards are fine.

If I am going to use air cooled cards I would rather wait until the better non reference ones with custom PCBs, quality air coolers, beefed up power supply etc are available.

I think with the GTX 1080 we could find in a couple of months that high end non reference cards are actually cheaper than the Founders Edition cards were on launch day.

i never understand people who jump on new release and are ready to pay silly money just to get it asap. lack of patience or brains?

We are talking about buying entertainment devices that become essentially worthless within a couple of years, not financial planning. There is nothing "wise" about buying a GPU, its a completely frivolous expenditure, no matter the relative pricing.

For me personally a difference in price of maybe £50 isnt even a takeaway for the family, or a few beers and a taxi home on a friday night, so "saving" £50 by waiting a couple of months, when i could have an extra 2 months use of something, its the penny pinchers that seem unwise to me.
