Retro console and games thread

What trinitron is the good one? I have looked them up a few times but theres so many variations!

Also what would you all say it the best size tv then?

Ta!

Try and look for the end of line trinitrons. They are usually silver in colour. 21" is a great size. Don't go for wega or wide sets as they add processing to 240p/480i images messing the look of the picture.

That was my old Trinitron. I use broadcast monitors now.

Yup, those will be them!

If you don't mind the non-flat screen, the smaller black Trinitron portables were very nice picture quality wise too when run via SCART.

Awesome will look out for them, i keep coming across the newer wide flat ones with a fixed stand i assume thats the ones you mention being not so good for this?

Played my megadrive on modern tv last noght, it was fine but too big really! Recieved all the sonics in the post :D theres something more appealing about playing them on the original console than say a ps3 collection disc. I had the collection and hardly played any amount of time on any of the games, dont know why. But playing it like i used to makes me whant to keep playing!

Really sad, and odd, that i remember all the secret bits and bobs in sonic 3, its like muscle memory or something :D

The other awesome CRT TV is the Panasonic 32" PD30. Had one for several years and it was just AMAZING for retro stuff. Seem to be around £40 on the bay

Right....I want a Commodore 64 BADLY now....been looking for ages but prices are quite honestly laughable at times on ebay.

For current owners what sort of money should I be happy to pay for one?

Ta

Does anyone know how i can steam master system 2 games using the elgato hd, really want to stream some master system games on my twitch channel, but the master system 2 uses RF and i don't know what adapters i need any help would be appreciated.

Other than connecting the console to a VCR and then using RCA output there's not much else you can do, unless you AV mod your SMS.

There's always the "e" word

So got my c64!

Guy had it set up on the TV when I got there to show it working too. Lovely chap

Need to source a tape deck and scart cable now :)

If i was to get another C64 i would get the older breadbin version. The C64C version in your picture has the cheaper less good SID chip that doesn't do samples as well as the original version

Yeah, amiga / commodore nut at work was saying same today

For the money this was a no brainer for me. Never owned one before so no comparison to make lol

Yeah I give up with Gumtree. If the items been on 20 minutes already then you can be sure someone has collected and paid.

I only sporadically check but I've never seen anything amazing on there. I once saw a boxed NES for £20 but I only when it had been on 45 minutes and it'd gone.

It doesn't help that my 'alerts' only seem to come through at 1AM every night for items that have been on a day already. Is this normal?

Missed out on a GameCube plus two Gameboy Advances last week with, amongst other top games, Twighlight Princess for £30.

12 minutes it had been on when I phoned when they said someone was on their way to collect. Five minutes later it had been deleted.

Patience and perseverance is the only way really.

Tired of keep cabling up and swapping over consoles to play different games I modified a cheapie bookcase to house some of my consoles on the end of my desk (lack of space in my tiny spare room!) Fairly pleased with the result below.
Was a lot of cabling, but now any console can be switched on, directed to any monitor and recorded/streamed via an Elgato HD60. Every console is cabled up to support its highest possible quality video output; RGB scart, component or HDMI.

From top to bottom:
Dreamcast & PS2 slim
N64 (RGB modded NUS-001fra version) & Wiis
SNES & Platinum gamecube
NES
Saturn model 2 (slightly dodgy video output on this, think I might need a new one :()
Xbox One
PS4
Wii U (under monitor)
Mega CD / Megadrive / 32x
Master system converter in desk leg
PS3, Xbox 360 in desk leg
Original Xbox in other desk leg

Ran out of space there so I left PS1 & master system etc boxed up as they can be played on the megadrive (with converter) and PS2.
