Rimworld - strategy base building sci-fi indie game

I've seen videos where they have colonist icons at the top of the screen. Is that a mod or something because I have the latest version...?

EDB Interface mod, although the last time I checked it hadn't been updated for A13 yet.

Good mods to check out imo are:

Community Core Library (a lot of other mods need this one)
EDB Prepare Carefully (lets you pick starting pawns and gear)
EDB Interface - Gives colony bar and other UI improvements (not updated for A13 yet)
More Factions Spawn - A lot more factions in your world
Apparello - Tonnes more craftable clothes/armour
Expanded Prosthetics and Organ Engineering - Create loads of bionics limbs and organs

It's tempting but I'm not sure I want to try any mods. I don't want to get used to certain features that will not be functional when a new update is released.

Up to two days playtime on my current game. I dug random room in my mountain isolated from my colony for infestations. Harvested about 100 aliens (took a week to kill them all) and got around 400 lavish meals.

Then it all vanished in my freezer, LOL.

Fortunately I trawled through the dev mode and managed to spawn them back.

Was there a heatwave? This can cause the freezer temperature to go above freezing and the food will spoil. Or have you got animals? They can eat your meals if they have access to the freezer.

Such as?

I always thought harvesting infestations for food was an exploit (I.E throwing a row a turrets in there) which they'll probably prevent now.

Exploit solutions

Traders, visitors, raiders, kidnappers, animals, etc will now escape if surrounded by walls with no way out.
Manhunters and insects will attack doors if colonists try to hop in and out of them while getting shots off.
Hives must now be tended by insects, so if insects are all instantly killed by a turret wall, the hives will die out.
You can no longer avoid the ‘executed prisoner’ mood impact by just shooting or starving the prisoner; pawns will get a “prisoner died innocent” thought. A similar solution applies to the deaths of colonists.
Solved various powerleveling exploits. Once colonists have learned a certain (high) amount in a day, they’ll learn at a much-reduced rate until the next day.
Flowers are no longer good animal feed (reduced nutrition).
Fixed exploit where players would give prisoner to raiders for kidnapping, to make raiders go away without a fight. Solution: Raiders only kidnap colonists.

As well as the animal ai which will should make manhunter packs a lot more deadly.
Raiders will no longer grenade each other etc.

Extremely difficulty was extremely with such exploits.going to be a whole new level know.

Thanks, gaming is blocked at work :o

Trying to think of a way round the hive thing but I don't think there is one.

Last time I played this I tried an ice biome up in coldest mountain region. I don't know how to survive when I get to Winter. It gets to -80/-90 degrees and even building over steam geysers with fires and heaters still wasn't enough of offset the freezing temperatures.

Small rooms, double walls, air locks for doors, etc.

Building over steam vents to start with works very well, just have to size it right and still build an air lock.

However harder now as raiders will come with correct gear so won't freeze to death.

Just wish I could get my hands on it now.

Randomly discovered Rimworld yesterday, watched about 6 hours of Quill18 on Youtube, bought the game earlier today and have been hooked ever since. Don't know how I've not heard about the game before.
