RM before 1pm item not delivered

It isnt a 9% payrise It is a split payrise.

Even 7% is more than most people in the private sector are getting. I am self employed and any pay rise in this economic climate would be amazing. My Wife got 5% and she is pretty happy with that. Sure if others unionized they too might get better pay offers but the general public are not going to have much sympathy for the Royal Mail workers when their kids presents are not arriving before xmas even after them being offered at least 7%.

That's because a portion of the public have been brainwashed by the predominantly right-wing press they consume into thinking :

Taking money from a business to pay shareholders is to be celebrated.

Taking money from a business to pay the people doing the actual work is greed/having cake and eating it/communism

Actually if people spoke out more maybe workers might start getting a bit of the upperhand rather than the way people argue over which worker is not getting as badly treated as some others.

This is failing right into the hands of greedy venture capitalists. There should have been a far bigger outcry about the RM being sold off to funnel money away from government funds into the hands of people that dont actually work there.

It's less a payrise and more compensation because they want to alter their terms of employment negatively by the sounds of it.
I imagine 99% of people wouldn't take a well under inflation pay rise to work worse hours/shift patterns without complaining

Royal Mail has paid out £2bn to shareholders since privatisation but now they’re losing money it’s the workers that have to fix it. Seems about right.

True as that may be, the average person only cares about why their parcel hasn't been delivered. The postal workers going on strike at this time of year will very likely cause many small businesses to go bust. Many eBay sellers might have thousands of pounds worth of goods stuck in a post office somewhere and their buyers will be demanding refunds which they will have to give. I doubt the postal workers have much sympathy for those sorts of people.

The whole country/world should go on strike to be honest

But can you not see that that is due to RM being arse greedy probably pushed on by the Tories?

You are letting the government not only get away with bad management of the country but also trying to exploit workers at the same time as their actions are being looked into by the fraud squad.

What are the alterations to Sunday shifts? That point seems a bit vague. Different start times and more flexible working - isn't this what the modern workforce have been asking for?

I would hate to work for a company that doesn't offer flexible working.
Royal Mail wanted Sunday to become a normal working day and changed working hours to suit themselves. They've rowed back a little on their demands but it's flexible working for Royal Mail not the workforce.

I can see that yes.

I think the main point I am trying to make is that the Postal Workers shouldn't have gone on strike at this time of year. They could have waited until a quieter time of year for post and had say a one week long strike. If that didn't work start ramping it up from there.

By striking now they are harming their customers just as much as the fat cats.

I don't accept that the workers had no say in when they went on strike and it was all the unions decision. If enough of the workers cared about their customers they could have lobbied the union to change the date. But instead they are quite happy to go for maximum disruption at the expense of their customers.

Harming customers when the customers have plenty of alternatives to use is a fast track to the dole queue.

Any time of year it is disruptive. Royal Mail management have had plenty of opportunity to stop it happening.

Royal Mail management could put a stop to the strikes today.

It is Royal Mail management that has caused this, not the workers. Management are the ones that have been extracting capital from the business for years, not the workers. It is their fault.

I know it may be hard to undo your programming....but strikes are not the fault of the workers. It is a failure of management.

If the workers feel like they aren't being treated fairly then by all means go on strike. But going on strike in this case not only affects the workers and their bosses but also their customers. If they fail to deliver the service people paid for then they will lose customers. Customers who pay their wages.

They could have chosen to strike at a less disruptive time of year but no they want their customers to suffer as much as possible so as to put pressure on the bosses.

Don't be surprised when customers don't like it and take their business elsewhere.

The workers are striking now because it is now that RM management are trying to cut their pay and working conditions. The timing is entirely down to RM management.

Strikes are disruptive. That is the point of them.

Stop blaming the workers. Put pressure on RM management. It's really that simple.

Surprisingly my RM return to amazon went fine.

However a parcel I sent via Evri (hermes) has been delayed for 3 days because wait for it, a road closure.

Not sure why the courier cannot use a different route. That same delivery also had 3 failed pickups and had to take to a collection shop. Wish I took the missed target date insurance now, but in the past hermes before their rebrand for me have delivered on time.

You are acting like this strike only started this week. It started months ago. Plenty of time for RM and the unions to sort it out by christmas. It is being held back by RM not the unions really and they are striking to stop them being treated even more unfailry.

Sounds like Royal Mail offered them a pretty good pay offer and it is the workers that are holding out for more.

I might have some sympathy for the workers if Royal Mail offered them a derisory pay offer but 7%+ is a pretty decent increase. It is below inflation but not many people are getting above inflation pay rises.

They are using their customers as pawns which I suspect will not be forgotten when people choose who to use to post parcels and letters going forward.

If they work sundays and other changes to their terms. it still isnt 7% either. And yes you are right RM is using the customers as pawns for trying to make the workers the problem.

It isn't Royal Mail boses that are refusing to deliver customers post deliberately causing them distress in order to get what they want. The workers have been offered a decent pay rise.

Royal Mail needs to modernize or they are going to go bust. It's not the 20th century anymore and they are not the only game in town.

They will not go bust if they stop handing out bonuses to upper management and share dividends instead.

In a roundabout way they are. Just because they arent the ones doing the actual end delivery they are the ones responsable for the strike.
