RM before 1pm item not delivered

He said Currys' staff needed a high level of expertise in order to help customers and the higher wages were the price they were paying "for the right talent".

We live in such a clown world. Nothing could be further from reality than what their chief executive said there.

I used to work at Currys over 10 years ago, and can certainly vouch for the "lack" of expertise. As long as you can read from the label then you're basically an expert by their standards.

Kudos to the staff for blagging a payrise though.

Some very whiny ****babies in this thread, to be sure.

No, people won't stop using RM over a few strike days. On the whole, they're the most reliable, cost-effective parcel service. DPD is way more expensive, especially for more remote regions, Evri are completely hit-and-miss and if you have an issue or something is lost you're SOL.

RM cost the same everywhere, are usually fairly timely, and if something does happen I've had no personal issues with their claims procedures and getting money back.

"People" might not stop using RM as there's not really an alternative for sending letters, it'd be stupidly expensive to send via courier. But a lot of businesses will move away from using them for any kind of parcels.

I would bet that royal mails business model wouldn't survive if the number of businesses using their services plummets.

I wonder what RM could do to stop that?

Some class people in this thread with next to no idea how much these people get paid, and pay raises they've had over the last 10 years.

Educate yourself.

And this comes from someone that does rather well in finance in the private sector. I take interest in people's fights and understand the facts.

Either you know your facts, have the data. Or shut the #### up.
And never compare someone else to yourself. It's pathetic.

Had a yodel delivery due today and it's saying it's been delivered yet no sign of it and no photo too which was supposed to be required.

I'm not disputing that nothing can be done about it, there's gotta be a reason that RM are happy to gamble the future of the business away.

Because they think they are right and right is might. Oh and they are greedy and want to give most of the money to people with shares rather than the people that actually do the work. And then there is the spite ofcourse.

There was a thing on Newsnight last night that showed the amount of strike days per and we were quite low but not as low as Germany with more than 50% less than us but they have a better worker management system. France was obviously really high and shockingly I think spain was the highest.

Germany requires worker representation on the board of large companies, and constructive workers councils. There is a general culture of people, work, and businesses all being part of the wider society and everybody tries to make things work with that in mind, so issues are resolved before workers have to strike to reign in ****-taking corporations.

But back on topic, I have an (expensive) package that was apparently handed to RM on the 27th November, although their tracking says they still haven't received it.

Fortunately it's not stuff I need for a few more weeks.

Apparently handed to and there's no tracking? How about whoever sent it provides proof they sent it and then you start moaning?

It's a reputable company that I've used many times, usually use DPD which is always next day, but went for the cheaper option as I didn't need it in a hurry.

They've told me that it is in the system and other customers are getting their deliveries despite the tracking not being updated.

Good luck if you have presents on order.

Dear Customer,

At Royal Mail, we know this is the time of year when you rely on us most.

So we deeply regret that the Communication Workers Union (CWU) is planning further strikes on 9, 11, 14, 15, 23 and 24 December 2022.

Last week we delivered around 700,000 parcels during strike days and recovered service quickly. I want to thank personally more than 11,000 of our employees who came back to work during that last strike.

But the task gets more challenging as Christmas nears. So we’re asking customers to send Second Class mail by 12 December and First Class by 16 December 2022.

We’ll do everything we can to respond. And we're doing everything we can to settle this dispute.

Eight months of talks with the union. A pay offer of up to 9% over 18 months. But even before the strikes we were losing £1m a day. So we can only afford that offer if the union stops resisting the changes needed to deliver what you, our customers, ask for today.

same, ordered a GPU a few weeks back, (had no choice, it had to be Yodel), meant to have photo and signature required..nothing all day, then checked the back door, there, left outside no note. nothing.

Outrageous.

It turns out if was left outside a neighbours house who took it in when he got home from work, there was no attempt to deliver it to me despite the fact I was in all day. I'd contacted yodel before I eventually tracked my package down and they questioned the driver and he told them it was delivered to me in person but couldn't provide a picture.

The way I see it is this. The Royal Mail workers have the right to strike for better pay and conditions. Royal Mail's owners have the right to not give in to the strikers demands. I as a customer have the right to decide I don't want to use Royal Mail because I deem them to be too unreliable.

The longer this goes on, more and more customers will see Royal Mail as a company you don't give your custom too if you want your letters and parcels delivered in a timely manner and will use the numerous alternatives available even if they cost more.

The Royal Mail workers could have chosen a different time of year to strike but they chose right before Xmas to cause maximum disruption. Generally people are self centered and will not take kindly to their kids Xmas presents not arriving. The fact that they have already been offered a 9% pay rise which they have turned down also won't generate much public sympathy.

I don't know who will cave in first but either way, I think long term these strikes will end up causing many of the Royal Mail workers to lose their jobs.

The offer is a 7% pay increase over 18 months with a 2% lump sum payment this year and goes with a programme of changes to working patterns including alterations to Sunday shifts, different start times and more flexible working.
