Western Division road race today which meant the three towns localish came over with their riders and we had a big race hosted by our club this year. Maybe 25-30 riders at a guess in A grade and with all the top guys away racing in their respective teams in the national road series it gave everyone else a chance for once!
Two CAT 3 climbs meant it could be tough, I was feeling good and sat in the middle of the bunch. Two guys from our club got away after a few failed attacks so then we left it to the other to chase.
One guy from our club bridged across on the climb, one guy tried and came back to they bunch we just cruised and left it to the other clubs to chase, any attacks they made we chased on. Pace was turned up on the second climb but I kept up ok even on the steep bits.
At the turn around our three leaders had a few minutes so we knew they were safe. I had an attack on the next CAT4 and pulled out a small gap, one guy bridged to me and we had a a short while away but the bunch wouldn't let us go.
Back on the flat we started taking turns to attack to tire the other clubs after all their work. Ended up in a group of three getting away from our club. With the top 6 sewn up it was game over really. I finished with the remainder of the group in about 10th spot, led out the sprint for 7th for a bit more of a workout!
67km distance, average 35kmh, max speed 81kmh, elevation 782m.
Riding my tubs was just amazing, super light and aero
