That's good of them.

I once ordered a $10 laptop component from the USA over the internet, and was gifted with £16 of customs charges. Apparently "that's double the value of what the item is worth" is not a logical argument. I'm now wary of international shipping :p

did you do it again ? :D

they wouldn't all have been custom charges.

10$ is also well under the limit ? unless the shipping was a lot to bring it over £15

You more than likely got hit with a handling charge from the British courier of around £8-£14 and a quid or two of customs charges
If you order or purchase goods other than alcohol, tobacco, perfume and toilet water from a country outside the EU then you have to pay:

Customs Duty on goods with a value that exceeds £135
import VAT on goods with a value that exceeds £15

Note that on all goods from outside the EU, Customs Duty is waived if the amount of duty calculated is £9 or under.

The charges were £8 as a 'customs processing fee' and £8 'parcel force delivery fee'. Shipping wasn't that much, think it was $10 again but that would have brought it over that £15 limit.

Bit of last minute training - I've just had a go on a boris bike. Not massively fun but I guess it does the job. I got some abuse at a pelican crossing after turning left on a green light, so unless I wasn't meant to turn left at that point I'm not sure what that was all about... I also got stuck over to the left side of the road when I needed to turn right and then had to do a silly loop to get back to where I needed to go to. I'm not exactly full of confidence at the thought of cycling the 9 miles to the triathlon tomorrow on London roads... At least I'll have my garmin telling me where to go.

Good luck! Hopefully they've closed a few roads for you!

Very annoyed.

Girlfriend and I ordered all the parts/frame etc for her new roadbike last weekend. Frame and fork were coming from China, got them today and the headset we'd paid for wasn't there.

Then discovered that the seatpost clamp I'd bought from my normal online bike shop along with a bunch of other parts was undersized. It's supposed to be a 31.8, it's more like a 30.0, despite the package labeling.

So building up her bike ground to a quick halt :(

Western Division road race today which meant the three towns localish came over with their riders and we had a big race hosted by our club this year. Maybe 25-30 riders at a guess in A grade and with all the top guys away racing in their respective teams in the national road series it gave everyone else a chance for once!

Two CAT 3 climbs meant it could be tough, I was feeling good and sat in the middle of the bunch. Two guys from our club got away after a few failed attacks so then we left it to the other to chase.

One guy from our club bridged across on the climb, one guy tried and came back to they bunch we just cruised and left it to the other clubs to chase, any attacks they made we chased on. Pace was turned up on the second climb but I kept up ok even on the steep bits.

At the turn around our three leaders had a few minutes so we knew they were safe. I had an attack on the next CAT4 and pulled out a small gap, one guy bridged to me and we had a a short while away but the bunch wouldn't let us go.

Back on the flat we started taking turns to attack to tire the other clubs after all their work. Ended up in a group of three getting away from our club. With the top 6 sewn up it was game over really. I finished with the remainder of the group in about 10th spot, led out the sprint for 7th for a bit more of a workout!

67km distance, average 35kmh, max speed 81kmh, elevation 782m.

Riding my tubs was just amazing, super light and aero :D

I doubt my racing today will be anything like as impressive as that!

I'm just about to set off from Euston to the Excel centre. 9 miles of London traffic. With any luck I'll still be alive when the race starts. Wish me luck...

Good luck stay safe, sure you'll be as good as or better than the vast majority of people.

We had a perfect day really, dry, pretty cold out the sun though with a touch of wind to spice it up but not too strong. Saddle seemed much better than my old one, almost 100km for the day and I'm not saddle sore at all.

Ah..I was at Euston at about that time. Should have brought my bike and travelled down with you :p

Away on hols at the minute. Decided to take in a few routes attend loch Tay. Started this morning with a local climb.it's about half a mile from our lodgings so I hit it pretty cold and it was easily the toughest climb I've done. Hopefully will get another shot at it before we leave.

Lessons learned?
Braking hurts your hands on the way down and the veloce brakes on my winter bike are way inferior to the Athena ones on the wilier.

here are a few pics of the saddle.. put it on yesterday before I left work but didn't set it up properly was too far back so had to kinda push my self up it a few times.

first impressions? it's hard.. but ride-able.. will take a little longer to see how well my bum copes with it :o

That looks pretty severe!

Does anyone else here do other sports apart from cycling? I go bouldering 3 times a week and sometimes I struggle to have enough energy (and time) to fit cycling in too.

Decided to give my TT and Road bike a clean up today, only took me about 3.5 hours in the end... Removed cranks, cassettes, chains and gave it all a proper clean up, changed the indexing on my TT and the chain on the road bike. All ready for final league TT tomorrow morning, sign on at 06:15!!!!!! and its bloody 30minute drive away.

hi guys,

do you know where i might be able to buy something like this. I want to put it on my top frame for cushioning when carry by bike to my apartment. rather than steel digging into my shoulder.
