So I killed my back wheel on a pot hole tonight on the way home, can the bike shop sort me out with just the wheel or will they need the hole bike for truing the wheel etc? Shouldn't be an expensive job should it? If it is I'm claiming from the council :p

They will only need the wheel (assuming that it's just the wheel that is knackered...which is most likely).

Price will depend on what needs doing and the shop itself. Around here I've seen as cheap as £6 for a simple truing job up to £60 for a true + new spokes fitted.

Thanks mate! It's a local shop and the guy's sound so I can check first :)

Ouch. I'm not sure I'd ride that to be honest :(

I don't want to be the guy that wipes out half of the areas best racers when my fork snaps mid bundy.

Especially when I work in a bike shop :p

Will use stevies bike for now, might order an orca(£2k for 105) or a felt f4(£1900 ultegra).

I know I can get a better price on the orbea, within £30 of the felt trade price. If I can get felt to go lower than standard then it'll be not too expensive.

Legs are still pretty tired/slightly sore today from the weekend. Maybe all the beer in the sun isn't working as recovery food.

I guess people might assume you'd done it just to be able to fix all their bikes... :p

I did pickup some of the Castelli UPF50 arm protectors after giving myself sunburn. Despite how things they are, I couldn't wear them in 35C. 25C was bad enough!
I'm wearing DHB Light Regulate arm 'warmers'. Not sure on their UV protection but they're light and thin enough for cooler mornings. I wouldn't have a problem wearing them in 20 degrees or more!
Decided I don't really want to ride my cannondale after the collision with a car the other night there.

Fork was looking a little corroded before but when I took the wheel off to true it(it's still pringled) paint under the crown had folded up and cracked. Not sure if it's just the corrosion or because I had the car hard enough to damage the fork.

Got this as a backup for now to ride to work on Wednesday then hopefully training ride on Thursday. It's the guy with the AR2 and S2, nice customer is nice.

Fork does look like it's sprung and the paint kinda reflects that. It might be ok but looking at the paint bubbling and some marks a little further along there could be a crack across it?

Awesome backup bike, Stevie sounds like a bit of a legend! Is he not selling the F4? ;)
Well, there you have it, the man riding untested unproven death trap accident waiting to happen Chinese carbon wouldn't ride that :p
I lol'd. :D

Shouldn't be much if it just needs a buckle removing and a retrue as all that is, is labour and experience (not parts). Unless you cracked the rim/broke some spokes.

Went out for a blast after work last night, utterly melting in the heat! Warm winds really take their toll on me, I find things ok when riding but as soon as I slow or stop I utterly melt! I'd put some suncream on even with things overcast... Had loads of flies/knats stuck to my arms when I got home (see pics on Strava)! Ew! lol

Good ride anyhow, my mate is loads slower than me on gradients now so used it as training with a couple of efforts - a long pull out of town, carrying speed up this 'bump', some low cadence and a sprint or two (chasing a car who cut me up lol). Still 29.3 miles at 18 mph including the slowdowns and holding back for him in places, so pleased. :)

Got another friend running tubs who's asked if I know about carrying a pre-glued tub with him and how to go about it. Any good guides or just google? I'm sure I've seen quite a few articles about it when reading up on wheelbuilding but now turning up a blank...

One the arm "warmers" I only bought them to protect my sunburnt arms, as I wanted to go out riding again, but I couldn't face putting them in the sun, even with suncream on.

About the tubs: I've seen a lot of stuff online too. Probably just worth a Google. http://weightweenies.starbike.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84424

Some good speeds mate. Marked improvement over the time I've saw your rides in here.

Doubt Stevie would sell it, he had a crash on it but did change the fork. Well I did for him!

It's almost too warm up here to ride, even walking along the street you end up soaking.

Looks good but still not great to see number plates (looking at the Prius at the start)?

What capture is that 960p or full 1080p? It looks similar to my VIRB @ 720p (when looking at numberplaces). Although your overall picture does look better than mine, the main reason I've got mine for is number plates...

Really need to sort the vibration on mine, think it's just the Superstar mount struggling with the weight of the VIRB & 810. GoPro session is obviously loads lighter and wouldn't suffer the same...! :o

I just looked at it again and WOW youtube compression has literally destroyed the quality, it looks MUCH sharper/better in the raw video! I can see swirl marks on cars while watching the original footage. Youtube one is all boxy and grainy :|

pftha.

it is a 4gb 12 minute file so I guess the auto compression went mad on it.

THat's 2 rides in the last week that i've felt awful. Nothing in the legs, really didn't enjoy either. Nothing massive both like 30/35 miles but about a month ago I was feeling great on the bike - loved it!

Strange one. Got my axle vice, grease etc so going to try and service my DT Swiss hubs in the next day or so.

Yeah I thought it wasn't very good! To be honest my 720p footage is better than that! I tend to edit my 720p in VIRB Edit and then save it as 1080p before uploading to YT. I find when I do the compression on YT doesn't do too much to the quality. I found saving/uploading as 720p the tool seems to go overboard, especially with any camera shake, making things look terrible! VIRB Edit obviously has very few settings about compression, the only indication you have is the estimated output filesize.

Yeah my speeds are good (currently!), must've found some form! I'm really enjoying thrashing along the flats! I'm finding more and more progress in my riding by working on maintaining speeds and cadence up any slight slopes. This is obviously better on main roads where the lack of corners, better road surfaces and more gradual gradients allow more concentration on form/power/cadence rather than being distracted by road debris/potholes/oncoming vehicles. I'm going to try and work on more threshold kinda work on flat roads to hopefully help me climbing.

Really need to sort my deeper sections out as I have a feeling (and the way I'm heading) is to have a crack at some TT's

Goodluck! Which axle vice did you get? Interested to hear how you get along with it as need to pick one up myself to rebuild some Roval hubs (rebranded DT Swiss')!

All the fair weather cyclists are out! The drying room is full of wringing wet cotton t shirts and hi viz jackets!!

our bike racks are all full now, I've got to do the walk of shame most mornings taking the bike downstairs in to the basement storage cupboard past the HR team

Cheapest place for an Ultegra 6800 rear shifter? Apparently mine is kaput according to the bike shop. They managed to remove the cable but the shifter is apparently not working now... I don't know if there would be any warranty on this sort of thing? Bike is less than a year old.

Picked up bike from shop for now with shifter removed and brake cable removed. Looks like there will be little riding for me this week!

It should be under the 2 years parts warranty.
