Supercar Drive Days in Aldershot. In hindsight I should have added even more money (had already added excess waiver, and weekend upgrade) for a proper track like Brands Hatch or whatever. Perhaps I'll do a write up in Motors soon if I feel like it.
Good stuff! What did you get to drive? I've got some in car videos somewhere, will send you links later if you want them? Can really recommened 'Everyman' and Prestwold if you want a good track to race! :)

I did Formula ford at Silverstone (well the test track inside the normal track) and that was something else. Supercars were 'fun' but so easy to drive, the real race cars where incredibly hard to drive but such an experience! Much more 'hands on' than the Supercars, totally different kettle of fish! Well worth it if you want the full 'race' experience rather than just driving a fast car! :)
Good find, thanks, drew a blank looking there before!

Applying both brakes, principally front initially per normal braking, and then probably similar pressure on the rear ( survival gene kicked in) I locked the rear wheel and that started to come around, but finally kept it upright, a long time since I have had such a situation and had perhaps forgotten what to do, would you say rear wheel coming round => bad technique ?

Just depends on how much grip is available and how much braking you are doing. You'll be putting about 90% of the force and weight through the front wheel when braking hard so it's easy to lock up the rear. Just need a bit of braking in the rear to keep things stable.

Sure - go for it. I didn't bother buying the videos as all you could see was windscreen wipers and spray aha. I went for BMW i8, Lambo Gallardo Spyder, Ferrari California, Porsche GT3 997 (the best by far, more control!), Aston Martin DB9 then two laps passenger in the Ariel Atom (one was free as someone dawdling in the BMW i8 slowed us down!). I'll have to try do a write up for motors this week... OcUK has good SEO too so it should show up when people google for this at Aldershot :)

Awesome! My first time I did 6 laps in the Lambo Gallardo & high speed 'experience' in the VXR8 (I think?). Second time I did Lambo Gallardo Balboni, Ferrari F430 & Audi R8 (3 laps of each). Third time (rubbish track near Loughborough) was DB9, Ferrari F440 (I think?) and GT-R (again 3 laps of each, but rubbish track). Did 12 laps at Silverstone in the Formula Ford.

Favourite cars where the Gallardo, Balboni and GT-R. Would really like to have a go in a Porsche and the i8 just for completeness! I've driven a friends R8 (on the road) and it was so much better than the one on the track. Driven an old M3 as well (would love to try a newer one) and an RS6 (felt faster than the R8!) also on the road. Really want to have a go at rally driving at some point too! :D

Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice. What are your opinions or experience of the Giant Propel Advance, I've been cycling for about 12 months or so and a member of a Tri Club now, so the Propel would cover both bases, I've just literally got home with one for a test ride for a few days but won't get chance tonight to go out, the bike looks fab but the brakes are giving me doubts!! What alternatives and why choose them?? Cheers

Just looking through the photos from yesterdays race, can't believe the guys in the morning had jackets and that on. I was roasting even when it started raining in a completely unzipped jersey, and I thought I felt the cold.

What is your issue with the brakes? It looks like it comes with standard dual pivot calipers, which are common across the majority of road bikes, subject to some variation in materials and how much flex is introduced by the length of the calipers. Basically, if you don't like the brakes on a decent bike like that, then I can't see you liking many brakes of that ilk.

Besides, the brakes on a bike like that should be pretty damn good. It could be they're badly adjusted or something?

There's a couple of guys in here with Propels and IIRC someone has changed the aero brakes so hopefully they will pop up soon. What doubts are the brakes giving you?

I tested the Giant Propel Advanced Pro 1 last year. Pretty good fun. Did you take it out at a Giant store? That's how I got it for a few days... really nice that they actually have demo bikes!

They are aero brakes not the best at stopping in the wet, although they aren't unusable I would be hesitant to put too much faith in them in the wet:p

Ah, the model I googled had regular brakes.

I guess all bets are off with aero brakes. My last single speed bike had mini vs, which is basically what aero brakes are. They worked ok, but modulation was woeful.

I built myself a Propel Advanced Pro from the 2015 framset. The brakes from what I gather are fine, I changed mine for a set of Fouriers as I wanted to run 25mm tyres. I have no problems with braking at all (power or modulation) compared to my other bike which has Ultegra brakes.

I think Giant changed the brake design to be more like Fouriers (Fouriers are the brakes the pro team run to use 25mm tyres) anyway so there shouldnt be an issue now.

I think BennyC uses the standard brakes and he is riding around the mountains in Europe at the moment.

A Canyon rep came into the thread and offered free bikes to the first 10 people to respond.. You're too late.

I don't think I'd fit any more in my garage tbf!

Man it's such crap weather out. Came in on the mtb yesterday, thought sod it take the aeroad today. Nearly lost it over some painted road section, it's like ice when wet!

Bah.

Which Propel Advanced are you trying and which are you thinking of buying? If you have doubts about the brakes then they are available with discs for not much more (considering overall cost). I've a couple of friends and clubmates with Propels, those with any issues have changed brakes but many are still running the standard.

Bear's info is spot on.
What have I missed?
Aeroad with discs discussion & someone else bought a Canyon.

Brown shorts moment!? Or were you wearing FDj kit? ;)

What tyres are you running? Couple of links recently for deals on Conti GP 4000sii's.

I got soaked on the way into work yesterday but somehow missed the rain on the commute home. Forecast was terrible but half wish I'd ignored it and headed out as it stayed pretty clear. Clear this morning but fully expecting a soaking on the way home... Providing the forecast is somewhere near accurate! They might get it right for once!

Ha that's what I've got, the GP 4000 SIIs! I have a lot of air in the back though as I have a heavy pack on today and it was just a really slippy bit. Never normally have an issue.

Who bought a canyon? What did they get? Can we get them out and compare? :p

Wake up and read "Light rain" forecast, so thinking it will just be the typical spit that we've had the last few days I go for my ride. On the return got absolutely drenched by some localised rain while going down a dual carriageway so spray from lorries and stuff passing too. Lovely.
