I honestly do not see what I am missing out on being vegetarian at all. It's no big deal these days like it was decades ago, very very easy to be vegetarian.
I totally understand where you're coming from, I'm a meat eater (grew up on a livestock farm!) but my girlfriend is vegetarian. I probably eat a vegetarian evening meal around 4-5 days a week and I really don't feel I'm 'missing out' on anything. Quorn is a quick & easy option, very varied and cost effective. I prefer it in some things now - chili con carne, fajitas & spag bol to name a few! A varied and complete vegetarian diet (with a bit of thought) really doesn't miss out on much protein.
My only issue is cooking the quorn chicken pieces, as I tend to struggle to get them to heat up well. I guess you need a lot of sauce?
How are you cooking them? As mentioned best to boil them a little to defrost, they also fry quite well in a slight bit of oil from frozen. We tend to do this and then throw them into things like stir fry/curry rather than cooking them in it. Gives them more flavour too, even better with things like chili oil!
Bike's done 5k miles in 2 years worthwhile or pointless?
Worthwhile. I change mine more than once a year but I consider the £2 they cost all part and parcel of my regular maintenance. That reminds me, I do need to grab some more gear cables for the next time! Anyone found a good source for jagwire cables, not the complete kits?
More climbs with Maxeh yesterday. Views were worth the suffering. Some of the segment averages though

Steep and slippery in places with cattle grids thrown in for good measure :p

(Most tasteful jerseys as always :D)
Scenery looks fantastic! Looks like a postcard picture! How have you found the routes around there? Don't hear of many trips to the Alps from the German side?
Went out for my first ride the local cycling club. It was way too fast!

Check out my 41.9 mi Ride on Strava: https://www.strava.com/activities/609368900
Well ridden & well done, looks about usual club speeds but a bit quick if it was a 'new members' ride! You'll soon progress if you keep riding with a club like that! :)

What's the benefit of a specific ZMA supplement?

I take A-Z + fish oils + magnesium which covers the same stuff?

If you were to supplement on zinc/magnesium as normal throughout your day you will still boost your intake of these but the benefit of combining them (ZMA) and taking at bed time promotes the deeper sleep cycles, so you are getting the benefit of supplementing your zinc/magneisum body uptake but also promoting a deeper and stronger sleep which of course aids in muscle repair from the day and promotes freshness for your next day. It's no different to supplementing on these but you are giving yourself an added boost/advantage regards the sleep promoting aspect of supplementing at bed time.

Same here! :D Needed some BCAA anyway, got some beta alanine to give it a go too.

Cool, be good to compare with you on how it goes, I started it on Monday.
I am loading with it as follows:
Week 1 = 2grams AM, 2grams PM
Week 2 = 3grams AM, 2grams PM
Week 3 = 3grams AM, 3grams PM
Then I will take it from how things are going with it to decide if I will take 5-6grams once daily or 2grams AM and 4grams PM perhaps.

What you planning?

Multi-Vit I am using MyProtein Alpha Men.

That sounds ultra manly! What about the fish oils?

@ Roady, I used to cook the quorn in oil from frozen. Tends to take a while to get going. I will try boiling it. I feel like I've turned this into a cycling nutrition thread. Maybe it's better to have a dedicated one :p

Not exactly sure yet on non training/race days, but will be taking on TT days before/straight after TTs as advised.

About the fish oils and multi-vit/vit D:

Any specific brand that is very good quality/good value for money?

I just use Boots or Sainsburys brand when they have 3 for 2 but would be interested on cheaper sources.

Tesco here and get the huge tubs when they're 3for2.

You will be limiting the effectiveness a lot if you only take on large effort/race days. I have read a few studies now all of which promote a loading phase and continued use throughout training racing.

Be prepared for dreamy delights such as....
I think I'd just start mixing magic mushrooms into my diet for that. Probably cheaper! ;)

I too hardly ever remember my dreams, but I have no trouble sleeping. I'm not sure I want overly lucid dreams and deeper sleep as I get 7+ a night already and wouldn't want to miss my alarm lol!

This is probably something I need to look at again, currently I don't take anything and rely on my diet (which must be fairly good as I have no problems). I don't get ill very regularly and when I do I shake things very quickly, usually without impacting my riding (just sometimes take an extra rest day). I'd probably take fish oil as I've taken it previously (just fairly ad hoc).

It's not a bad thing that it's here as more of us will see it and comment, any more indepth nutritional guidance probably belongs in the sports thread as most sports will have similar requirement and guidance can be very cross purpose. Although I'll be the first to admit I wouldn't see it in there, I don't frequent many parts of these forums any longer (not enough time). I don't even go into the Pedal Powered forum more than once a week, this thread I view multiple times a day... :o

Wet commute in but not too horrific this morning (didn't bother with waterproofs, just jacket & shoecovers). I'm 2 for 3 so far this week (wet:dry) so par 1 currently.

Had a wheelsucker this morning, I'd seen him at some lights just after the bridge (where I go straight over) and he didn't say hello, just turned right. After Westfaling/Wordworth (where I turn left at the roundabout) I thought I saw a rider coming along Whitecross. Sure enough when turning off Kings acre (shoulder check) he's glued to my wheel. Shout 'hi!' at him again and just get a blank look back, as I'm turning right into work he passes on the inside and I shout "good pace!" at him and he's completely ignorant/oblivious. I know it was raining mate but seriously, a smile or nod would be nice!

Be aware that supermarket multivits and fish oils tend to be pretty crap (generally speaking anyway). Recommended dose I go with is 2g EPA, 1.5g DHA and that would mean taking 15 Tesco fish oil caps, as an example. There's a really good supplement thread in Sports Arena if you can ignore the gym bros. :p

The only supplements I use at the moment are beer and bourbon.

Just eat the right foods in the first place and there's really no need for a library of vitamins and oils, unless you're training for competition. A fish oil and a multivit isn't gonna make any difference to commuting and the odd weekend century!

That includes 12 miles cycling to and from my house slowly to get there and the bit where I was dropped. Other people in the group had an average of 19mph which I couldn't maintain. I pretty much got told that the group is a little bit too fast for me and that I need to get some miles in and come back when fitter.

Expensive vitamins = expensive pee....

The joys of winter cycling, my gear cables froze, then my brakes froze, then the shifters froze so I couldn't even pull the brakes....

-3c and freezing fog so it just sticks to you & the bike then freezes.

I had two pairs of socks on, north wave winter boots & assos overshoes. Hands I have all three of the assos gloves in their layering system; inner, outer & lobsters! I must have mild raynauds as I seem to suffer more than others with feet & hands.

I'll just leave this here...

I've got a barely used 6700 11-(I think)23 cassette (10 speed Ultegra) if anyone is after one. Not a 'for sale' post FT, it's not cost me anything so giving someone here the opportunity before I sell it elsewhere (cover postage and a beer and it's yours!) :)

You have no idea how seriously I take my commutes. I've got a skinsuit on order specifically for the commute!
