That includes 12 miles cycling to and from my house slowly to get there and the bit where I was dropped. Other people in the group had an average of 19mph which I couldn't maintain. I pretty much got told that the group is a little bit too fast for me and that I need to get some miles in and come back when fitter.
It's a tough one really, I was in a similar boat when I started - thought I could easily manage the 15/16mph average (advertised) of the 'slow' group, but any hills I was absolutely dropped as I wasn't used to riding them. It's hard to get used to fast group riding, without a fast group to ride with! :)
Any more local clubs you can ride with? You might find one with a slightly lower average which will help you out! Most medium-large groups will do a 'newbie' ride. Around here one of the biggest groups (Hereford Wheelers) kinda cater to anyone and everyone, from 14-15mph 20 mile rides up to 25TT's. The other 'cycling clubs' (biggest being NFTO, Climb On, Gannet) tend to be smaller groups doing faster and further rides. :)
The joys of winter cycling, my gear cables froze, then my brakes froze, then the shifters froze so I couldn't even pull the brakes....

-3c and freezing fog so it just sticks to you & the bike then freezes.
Gears, brakes and shifters froze?! Water left in them after cleaning? When I rode in -10 I didn't get my gears freezing and only had the rear brake freeze a couple of times. Your wind chill must've been much lower than -3! Biggest problem I had was the ice forming on my eyewear!

You will be limiting the effectiveness a lot if you only take on large effort/race days. I have read a few studies now all of which promote a loading phase and continued use throughout training racing.

Yeah, just not sure on when I'll take it yet on those days, but that's my plan for race days.

Expensive vitamins = expensive pee....

I had two pairs of socks on, north wave winter boots & assos overshoes. Hands I have all three of the assos gloves in their layering system; inner, outer & lobsters! I must have mild raynauds as I seem to suffer more than others with feet & hands.

Boohoo HAHAHAHAHAH get over it. Lovely weather here, and no magpies in sight.

I don't struggle with getting anything dried?! Just hang it up in doorways at home (if the drying rack isn't available). Only thing which doesn't 100% dry out overnight is my neoprene overshoes so I have 2 pairs of them. To be honest I've not got soaked both commutes in a day recently so I've not used the second pair, yet!

At work I hang things over a desk partition and things like overshoes/gloves/caps I hang off the edge of a shelf (thankfully it's metal so I use the strong magnets out of mechanical HDD's to hold things up)! No heating on in our office but my kit always dries... :D

Just got myself a Specialized S-Works Prevail helmet.

Tried to get them via the recent "amnesty" but no large sizes anywhere at all. Anyway, found a guy selling one locally on facebook cycling group. It was too big for him and it's mint condition, spare pads and everything. £70! bargain!

Congrats on the KOM at the end of the ride!

Some of those gradients too, wow. That's a seriously impressive ride. The scenery looks absolutely stunning! Might have to pay a visit! What made you choose the south of Germany?

Haha, that's just a short segment to the hotel from the main road we made :p

Yeah, bit of a grueller (we rode up to Spitzingsee, cat 2, 2 days prior, posted it a tad further back.).

Maxeh has family out here that work locally and it turns out to be rather joocey for cycling.

I am not looking forward to returning to UK tarmac. Don't think I've seen a single pothole out here!

I'll have to try make it some time too... problem with working in a Californian team is that I end up working some late hours so it's never easy to wake up so early! :p

Park seemed really busy this evening.
Dynamo peloton decided to overtake a patrolling ambulance in the twisty after Broomfield Hill. Half of them nearly ended up on the ground due to oncoming cyclists/cars...

oh dear.. I went CW and it was alright, meant I didn't get the sawyers headwind too!

Liam assumes everyone always rides as fast as possible! Normally 6:30am @richmond gate when the weather is good

All about riding Z2 everywhere and letting fat monkeys go past without reacting!

Dunno what you lot are talking about drying. Lycra dries ridiculously easy. Could leave it outside in the rain and it'd be dry! :D Just hang it up off a window handle so it gets some air over it (obviously leave window open)
