So I had to visit 5 different chemists today. All but one had closed for lunch, you'd think that would be their busiest time. Anywho, I eventually got given some nappy rash cream for my saddle sores, Sudocrem. Anyone tried it for this purpose? Did it work? Only one way to find out I guess. This post was just to rant at pharmacy closures really :)

i have had a bit of sufferage in this department. the creams and ointments are ok but don't necessarily expect them to cure the issue. I have tried Sudocreme, Assos (Chamois cream and skin repair gel), Bag Balm and another tub I can't remember the name of. None of them cured my issue - possibly stopped it getting worse but certainly didnt cure it. Touch wood I now have it under control but I can only put this down to a new saddle. I have moved from exclusively riding Specialized Romins on all my bikes to a Fizik Arione and since then I have not had a flare up.

Good post ride hygiene seems to be very important and I have swabbed with tea tree oil to help avoid infection. A good scrub with the Mrs's exfoliating gloves (shoosh dont tell her) also is advisable when you shower.

I think one of the issues I had with the Romin, comfortable as it was, is the cradeling nature of its design which tends to hold you in one position all the time. The arione allows a far greater range of movement and I reckon this has helped. Good luck, I know how annoying these things are.

But that stuff goes everywhere. How'd you wash it off?

Use a small 3 finger full, wipe the general area, wash off hand under the tap. All absorbed in during the ride.

Great advice here, I suffered a bit, not so bad I couldn't ride, but my bike fit solved the majority of problems, and also ensuring you never wear bibs twice (although I do to work and back but hardly a problem) and then getting out of bibs as soon as you can, not sitting around in them once you're finished, and giving them a good antibacterial clean, rather than just a normal wash will work wonders for anyone.

Daveski, you might want to avoid the A6005 from the cross roads at Draycott onwards to Breaston, they've just laid down a load of aggregate before they start tar spraying!

It wasn't there this morning so a bit of a surprise, thank god for 28 mm tyres!

Ugh. Nice weather for a ride this afternoon/evening but I was running on empty. Managed to bonk twice. Luckily I took 4 gels with me so it was enough to get me home. I've eaten some real food now and feel so much better.

when you bonk, and you take a gel, how long till it "kicks in" ?

I've bonked twice, and being not far from home, I've carried on

but I heard that the best thing to do is get of the road and lye down for a while?

It wasn't a 'full' bonk so I just stopped for a minute whilst consuming the gel. When I've had it really bad I've stopped for 5 minutes or so to let things kick in. The gels tend to start making you feel better after 5-10 minutes normally.

This is my mate Chris finishing the national TT earlier today.

This is the winner, Alex Dowsett, getting ready to start.

Going to try and get an entry to this next year, was a great event.

Going to the Pyrenees in September with oli collett and I only have a standard double and 12-27 cassette. I like to think I'm a decent climber, but would hate to be searching for a lower gear. Unfortunately, a Campag Chorus 12-29 cassette is £100 so I'd prefer not to have to buy one!

On other forums people suggest having a compact with a 28 at the back but they are probably fat MAMILs right? :p

Not the same but I had a 39-30 in the Lakes and was enough, would probably want another gear in the Pyrenees. Does it have to be a Chorus? I used a Tiagra cassette and was only £12 or so.

Triple post! Cheers Dunks, will give it a miss for a bit.

I've done some spannering this evening, so my tdf is now fully reassembled with its new red coat and nearly new Claris group set. I need to tweak the gears a bit and check the fit so I'll take it for a quick spin at the weekend and see how it feels.

All set for another 40+ miles of commuting miles tomorrow taking the long way :) I'm actually quite enjoying planning these out instead of just taking the quick 9-12 mile one way routes when I use to be able to cycle multiple days a week.

Saw you'd been bonking around :p

The times I've bonked I've had to stop to 'get my breath back' as it's usually on hills (with a big HR spike)... Get going again (5mins break) and find I struggle to maintain a 75/80 cadence. Usually find my heartrate won't climb either so just have to try and pootle along until I recover. Gels take around 10 mins to kick in for me but weirdly I've never taken one when I've bonked (thankfully it doesn't happen very frequently). I find it hard to even drink (nevermind eating) after bonking!?

Pics please! :)

Went out for a great ride after work last night with a mate, 28 miles at 18mph average with 1100ft of elevation). Loads of cyclists out as the weather was fantastic! We must've seen 20-25 others!

Good route, headwinds everywhere! Was almost too warm in places as the wind felt warm... Thankfully we were out late enough so it soon cooled down. Had a good '5 mile swap' routine going and pushed an insane average (for me) as I'm normally hanging myself trying to keep up at that pace! I must be getting stronger and quicker! Love my new kit too! (pic on Strava) :D

Had planned to do a ~40 mile loop on the weekend. My mate is training for a 100 mile ride and said he'll come. Came up with a mad plan last night instead of doing a loop to cycle to my parents place (ToB 2014 KOM stage)! Here's the route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/8708979

I wouldn't do the whole route (my friend will) so around 39 miles for me (I'd be stopping at the top of the route) and 67 miles for him. The route from Eardisley to Kington has a long climb in ('Apostles lane' just short of 3 miles @4%). A CAT3 so will be good to get that under the belt! Although I don't think we'll be setting as high an average as last night lol ;)

Might give some Assos a try when my US runs out. Either that or a block of lard from Lidl :D

I found lard attracted the flies (same with peanut butter, pro tip: avoid the crunchy).

The small amount that gets on my pad comes off in the wash. How much do you use?

2 good handfulls.

Seriously though, I've only had bad sores (a couple of times) usually when using cheap shorts (dhb active £7) during a particularly 'spirited' turbo session. Although I've felt slight sores after getting totally drenched in a thunderstorms in summer shorts...

I have Assos, I place a little (1-2 pea sized) in between my bawlbag and 'leg joiny' bits of skin (best way to describe) as that's where I get chafing (I'm hairy). I had some sore bits last night on my cheeks from the edges of a pad, I think it's either newness or the pad being smaller than usual (as I downsized). No pain this morning so only temporary! :)
