Be sure to trust message Roady for those pics he promised too ;)

They're only available to paying subscribers, sorry.

  1. As I did a big/fast ride (for me) last night (~30 miles).
  2. Today a non-cycle commuting day at work. My legs feel like they've done a ride (more than commuting) but are otherwise ok.
  3. Previously my body has had a minimum of 2 days between big rides... Even then I struggled.
  4. Tomorrow I've planned a big ride again which will be on par with my furthest distance cycled so far (~40 miles).

Am I expecting too much of my fitness? Or should I be ok? It's probably better now than it has been previously. I know I'm gonna be struggling on sunday regardless lol ;)

Any foods I should eat tonight to help with tomorrows ride (starting in the morning)? I was going with my usual dried fruits & nuts after a good dinner of pizza & cider tonight followed by museli in the morning :)

ok, chainrings are _WORN OUT_ to the point where I'm going to stab myself with them at some point.

Can anyone tell me why it's pretty much cheaper to replace the whole crank etc than buy two new rings?

or am I looking in the wrong shops (wiggle/ribble etc).

Most people are buying complete chainsets, so it's more costly to be producing and stocking the rings as they don't move as fast. The same as buying the parts of a groupset separately costs more than buying the whole thing, and buying a groupset costs way more than it would if you looked at it as part of a complete bike.

Well that was lucky...I "might" have left the trainer quick release on, and it "may" have come undone and fallen out about 3 miles from home.

Thankfully I realised straight away so pulled up and managed to find the nut in the middle of the road so could get home and avoided damage and injury.

And once again I took a wrong turn coming home, didnt work out so well this time as it took me on a long wide straight road with cars flying by at 60-70. Most gave space, some did not and did not enjoy that so much. Least with the country lanes they don't tend to come past so quick.

I've taken my newly powder coated and rebuilt winter bike out for a 20 miler and it's not fallen to bits underneath me. The gears need re-indexing but don't they always, and I need to replace the brake blocks with proper cartridges... Other than that it's all good.

that may be so but they don't spoil and there's been no change in them for _years_ now as far as I can tell, how can you charge £45 each when a new crank is about £100! madness. but then if you're buying a new crank for £100 you may as well get a new gruppo.......

Rode into town tonight to meet my girlfriend for a quick pizza and a drink by the river. Makes me realise how much I'm missing my bike.

Screwed my knee up on Thursday and couldn't ride in today. Prospect of having to drive in all of next week and possibly longer is horrifying me.

As I posted in Gym Rats
Hitting Strava PBs with not too much effort after a winter of doing legs - even going faster up hills despite weighing at least half a stone more!

Squats win at everything.

I have a sneaking suspicion its both the squats and the hamstring work that has helped me, but there are noticeable improvements. My cycling fitness is still not at its best but power is seemingly well up

I've been hitting the gym for nearly 3 years now, not sure how it has affected my cycling to be honest! Because I've started cycling at the same time haha :) I can totally see how squats would give me extra raw power when sprinting or climbing up short climbs! But at the same time the 10kg or so extra mass over a cyclist of my height will slow me down over long same gradient climb.
