My Ride on sunday went well. My friend (training for RidePrudential) wanted to do 60+ miles, I wanted to do around 40 with some climbing. The original route I'd planned around visiting a pub another friend worked at, trying a climb and checking out the roads that direction (lots of routes/climbs around there) and the distance (to 'push' my leisure rides up to 40 miles with 1500+ ft of climbing). To cover the climbing, my mileage and my friends I came up with a solution. I still used the circular type route I'd originally planned but then rather than a loop I extended it out to my parents house where I would get picked up from and my friend could ride home.

The route worked well and the weather was fantastic! The original climbs I'd plotted were brutal but good fun and the descent was fantastic on a great road surface! Will have to check that out again! The main road part of our route (Eardisley to Kington) had a long 2.5 mile CAT3 climb which was also good. It hurt and seemed to go on forever! :D But with the climb not getting much steeper than 5% (and being fairly constant) it made pacing it easier. The descent was fun but road surfaces were not great... Easier roll out over the border followed by a couple of climbs.

Then came the real tester right at the 'end' (of my ride, not my friends!) to my parents place. Beggars Bush. It was used as a KOM stage in the 2014 ToB so the leaderboard is quite an interesting one to look at. Admittedly we did the climb from a different side - it still totally ruined us but I buried myself on it knowing I was at the end of my ride! ;):D:cool:

All in all an excellent day, I've wanted to 'cycle to Kington' for a while (where I used to live). Now I've cycled a long route there (for me), a CAT3 and even to my parents place (which was probably my next target) I'm quite chuffed with myself. Still didn't go over my '100 miles in 1 week' soft target (88.8) though! ;)

Legs said no at today's road race, really disappointing as the circuit suits me and I honestly think I could have won. Never had my legs feel quite so bad, felt so weak, literally 100w off where I should have been. Hopefully two days rest will bring them back to life

Gutted for you mate, but there'll always be other races! :)

FAO Roady and anyone else who's interested in my lipstick-on-a-pig TDF...

Looks awesome, very 'sleeper' look as you can tell (from those in the know) from the tube profiles it's not just an old banger painted up! :D

For winter i use the cheap planetx ones i got with a winter bundle made of neoprene or something similar. They're surprisingly durable and although your feet will get wet eventually they do a good job of keeping them warm, which is much more important.

I found the PX ones quite a poor fit - tight around the back so the velcro was making a noise every pedal stroke, the top wasn't very flush with my leg (slight gap for water) and the rear of the overshoe rides up the back of my shoe (so if your shoes have heel vents you'll get wet).

The DHB version (similar price) I found a better fit, zip at the rear means they really don't move around as much. Tighter to get on, but feel more robust. The bottoms and edges wear away but even after shedding much of the stitching and bottom elastic mine are going strong.

I've recently got back from a 4 week stint working overseas so I finally got out for my first ride in 5 weeks today. https://www.strava.com/activities/335375149

I started off with my legs feeling great and pushed on more than I should have. Completely forgot how to pace myself which wasn't helped by following a route on my Garmin so I couldn't see my speed. All in all it felt like quite a difficult ride for just 24 miles!

ah ok, I've just ordered about 7 different ones from wiggle, will see which I like the best and send the rest back and order a couple.

I do that quite often with wiggle, I'll order a couple of things in various sizes (and brands) then decide which fits best or I like the look of when actually worn! :D

I'm unsure if that's how Wiggle like things to be done but they keep taking my money so they must be happy! ;)

Welcome back & don't be too disappointed! Still a great average and the segments (PR's, 2nd's & 3rd's) mean you're not too far down on previously! :)

Anyone with the Chinese Radarlocks (like mine) and experience of the genuine ones?

I see there are various types of Radarlock so ideally I'm asking if the 'Heritage Radarlock Path' frames/lenses will be compatible with my cheapy chinese ones. I'm thinking to continue using my cheap ones for commuting then have the 'good' ones for the weekend. Would just like all the lenses to be compatible!

platy opinion? Think it was your wife who worked for Oakley? :)

decided to put a few random videos together instead of dumping it all separately! will do it more often! still impressed with Virb's quality.

Your filtering still gives me squeaky bum moments, especially sped up! :p

That car driver though! Could've ended so nasty - was that sped up at all? If not then he's doing 30+mph! Cyclist after that seemed surprised to see someone faster than him!

I'm sure that girl biker was racing you! Your filtering meant she really struggled to get away from you - good going! Get a tow and her number next time? ;)

Oh and footage quality is superb, is that 1080p or 720p (before the Youtube conversion)? I dropped mine down to 720p (so I can now get a weeks worth of commuting on a single 32gb card) but not had much need to watch any of it back, it looked fine (can clearly pick out numberplates) when I checked!

Some of you may remember months ago I posted about doing the Open Cycling Coast to Coast in a day ride and what would you suggest blah blah.

I've trained hard for the last 6-7 months and on Saturday the big day arrived. I am made up with my result. I started training to just get round and quickly set some goals - I wanted a sub 12 hour time and not to put a foot down on any of the climbs (Hardknotts, Wrynose and Limber hill included!) I achieved all of the above as well as losing 2st 8lbs in weight.

Pleased is an understatement!

I think you'd get used to it really quickly! filtering in general is like 2nd nature, I find it more stressful riding on country lanes with a few cars over-taking me at higher speeds to be honest?!

that driver was just next level of stupid, the thing, that road is VERY narrow with cars parked both sides.. its a two way road and I let drivers past as soon as it's safe but this guy, I could heard him drop a gear and rev it as much as he could before speeding up and overtaking me inches apart! if I was to move to the side he'd have wiped me out and killed me(99% sure there's nowhere for my body to go if he was to hit me, either under wheels, between cars or high in the air) I was doing 18ish, not fast but he went way above 30mph.

haha, it was quite funny, I met her a bit earlier and she attempted to leave me behind a few times :d I only dropped a small part of the video in there ;) she couldn't get away which was quite funny! that's 1080p, I've got a 64gb card so records close to 7hours, not a full week but end of week I just go through videos and save the one's with good bits in them, remove the rest! had 500gb worth of videos on my external drive

that cyclist is a guy I often meet on my commute! we've had a few races ;) he's quite fast and totes gives me a good run for the money!

Just to call back to yesterday's base layer discussion... I had a merino base layer under a merino jersey today and it was about 22 degrees. I was sweating a fair bit but I reckon that would have been the case with or without the base layer!! I got through three 750ml bottles over 66 miles, plus tea at the cafe stop. Thirsty work this cycling!

Awesome ride and well done! Quite an accomplishment, especially with those climbs! Hope you enjoyed it enough to continue riding and posting here! ;)

Fun ride with Vonhelmet today - saw a few new places and always good to ride with someone new. Definitely a good day to have booked off :)

Weather is awesome here too... Kinda regretting not booking my birthday (tomorrow) or the whole week off work! Temperatures are forecast to be hotter than my holiday in Rhodes a month ago! :o

'someone new' - I wrongly assumed you guys had met/ridden a few times before!? Maybe that's just me assuming everyone here who lives near other members are friends with them lol ;)

Maybe if you wore less you wouldn't have been so dehydrated?:p
