Tbh I'm sure it's a fair bit warmer darn sarf. Temperature has spiked here in the grim north and it has come as a bit of a surprise :)

@Roady - me and von met briefly once before when he sold me his old bike computer but that's it.

Look, I know you like to ride in a hot pants and a sleeveless string crop top, but we don't all have the body to show off that you do.

lol it's not that at all :) I'm boiling with that much on and I see people around in t-shirts etc so I'm just wondering? are you very skinny? bad blood circulation or? because from what you've said it sounds more like you just haven't attempted riding with say, short sleeve ? not hating ha :)

Nah, I ride short sleeves a lot when the weather is good, and I was in short sleeves today. I'm 5'7" and about 11 stone 4, so I'm a bit chunky in places.

I sweat like a mother no matter what, that's the problem :p

I'm giving this discussion a wide berth. Seeing as I'm apparently a freak in the clothing department too.

You tubby bar steward. :p

Just done my first ever turbo session. 20min FTP test on trainerroad. In a room with no fan, and in this weather. I'm knackered.

335 FTP it reckons but I know that the raw number doesn't mean squat except as a base to compare future results against. I'm just glad I got the first go in. I've been putting it off for ages. Lets see how much it improves by the time I go to Majorca again next May. Hoping to drop to 75-80kg too (from 98ish) by then as well.

OK, the new sensation sweeping the nation... Or at least getting half a dozen responses on a thread on road.cc

What is your Eddington number?

The Eddington number is a measure of your long distance cycling prowess. It is the highest number E such that you have ridden at least E miles on E separate days. So if you've ridden over 50 miles on 50 different days your Eddington number is 50. If you only ever do short rides, so you've only ever ridden more than 20 miles on 20 different days, then your Eddington number is 20. Increasing your number is hard, because while, say, you might have done 60 rides of over 60 miles and have a number of 60, if you want to up it to 65, you'll probably need to more than just another 5 long rides, and so on. As an aside, you can use kilometres, but it will be harder to get a higher number, as the units are smaller.

Eddington, the chap who came up with the system, who did some astrophysics in his spare time when he wasn't cycling, had an Eddington number of 84, so he had ridden at least 84 miles on 84 different days.

One imagines that pro cyclists have Eddington numbers in the 100s...

Anyway. You can find out your number here. It'll ask you for authorisation to use your Strava data to figure out your number.

Mine has come out at 41, which is a little bit higher than where I expected; I was anticipating high 30s. I need 17 more rides of over 45 to get to 45, so I expect that will happen next year sometime. 34 over 50 to get to 50, so that'll take a bit longer. 48 to get to 60 will take me years, maybe the thick end of a decade.

rebuilt my BMC with the dura-ace I got today.

the V-Brake system is possibly the most useless system ever. Im very tempted right now just to break it down again and sell the frame and replace it with something that has standard components.

Nice shoes! They're really what I'm looking for next... But my shoe change will involve a cleat/pedal change too so need to make sure my SPD's are well worn first. I may leave it until next year (after winter) as can't remember if the Arctic GTX boots I ordered have SPD and SPD-SL or just SPD... (don't get them until my birthday).

That RT Di2 is an insane buy and you're right about their designs getting better!

I've been wearing these mesh ones for really hot/climbing/tempo rides, I'll be getting more when they're in a sale. Really wide mesh, plenty of stretch to remove - even when soaked! Very impressed, they size up ok. I'm wearing XL's and I'm usually an XL in most jerseys (L in DHB).

I wear these for other rides/commuting. They're great (amazing wicking) but don't have the stretch of the others. They seem to be wearing more (stitching coming slightly undone etc) but then again they were half the price... ;)

I sweat buckets (always have) so my jerseys get soaked on hard rides, with a mesh base I find things far more comfortable on longer hard rides. The extra 'evaporation & mesh' principle really does work.

yeah, they do look nice
that was the ideal colour I was looking for, but everywhere was out of stock in my size
I was actually thinking of sticking with specialized, as my specialized sport ones are good, felt comfy for 3 years, but wanted the s-works ones, but they cost £250 !, so I was looking at the next ones down (expert) they do a nice black/white combination, one boa instead of two and its £100 cheaper! then I saw those sidis, and fell in love !

What's the difference between the following two chains,

KMC X9.93
KMC X9.73

Chains just about done with now so I'm gonna be replacing it, £13.49 delivered! Can't complain with that!

What is your Eddington number?

17 :o All being well it will be 20 by the end of the week!

If you upload multiple rides in a day and don't change the standard name then it gets confused and counts it as one ride! Not that it made any difference to my result though.

Welcome back & don't be too disappointed! Still a great average and the segments (PR's, 2nd's & 3rd's) mean you're not too far down on previously!

Oh I'm not disappointed! It was quite a physical job and I spent the best part of two days last week crouching / kneeling on the floor drilling holes which my knees aren't thanking me for so I was surprised to see more than 15 mph average TBH. I was surprised how I couldn't pace myself properly though, probably just need to get back in the swing of things.

Ah yeah, forgot about the APR. In that case, i'll be there this week. But will try and get to the bundy the week after. 7pm is quite a good time for me actually, can get back from work and get down there fairly easily i reckon.

APR Is cancelled going by Gregor's FB post. See you at the bundy?
