Best cold weather rain jacket?

Long sleeve Gabba 2? Better than rapha pro team race Cape?

I have a cheap Castelli Gilet which is 100% waterproof but not breathable. Works ok as you vent out under your arms where there are no sleeves, but need something better or buy an indoor trainer!

I've heard the Stolen Goat Orkaan is supposed to be even better than the gabba, but i've not used one

Look for "radarlock" and you'll find the knockoffs

Wasn't it ladarlock?

Friend's birthday last night so instead of going on a ride as planned I've woken up at 11 am and still feel drunk :s

Haha not good, cider does that to me! It brews overnight and I can feel okay going to bed only to wake up in the night very drunk!

Had a good couple of days in London, insane amounts of cyclists here! Around 30% posers, 40% noclues but the others seem speedy! Hardly any helmets worn or may road rules followed! I thought Hereford was bad for pavement riders, red light jumpers and no helmets lol

Hips are ruined from all the walking, might need to do some jogging to build muscle/bone strength in my legs? I've noticed it more and more when suddenly doing lots of walking?

Going out for a ride tomorrow, tempted by some of a 60 mile organised ride which happened yesterday. There was a shorter 30 for part of the route so will have options! :)

Comments a few pages back about me spinning out my 52/11, I don't tend to ride high cadence at high speeds in drops. Really can't afford a wobble around the roads at home!

Roads around London are amazing, perfect surfaces! No pot holes, loads of room for cyclists and ASL's everywhere! Would love to ride a around here! Walked past 'Look Mom No Hands' and it looks like a dive/hipster haunt (like most places in london then). ;)

Gets excellent reviews but more of a jersey than a jacket?

I like a jacket as you can layer up a bit under it so more versatile perhaps and less washing to do, once a week or every other ride rather than after every ride... Air drying things in winter can take ages if it's wet out.

Got a bit of tax back at EOFY so might treat myself...

Nice 25 miler this morning, really happy with my average speed but totally ran out of energy in the last 2 miles, I don't think the head wind helped much but I know the legs had run out anyway.

I think it's similar to the gabba in that respect, bit of a hybrid

Went out with the local cycling group of the first time yesterday. Was about 12 of us can someone explain exactly how to ride in a group.

Starting from the back I understand moving up a slot when I get to the front with a cyclist on my left at the front also. But from this point I couldn't quite get it , the guys shouts change what do I do ?

Do I speed up and move across to the left ? Or does the guy to my left slow down and I move across ? I sort of blagged it yesterday but would like to understand how it works.

Overall enjoyed it but at times bloody scary.

That is a hell of an average speed for that distance so from that I would make the assumption that this was an advanced or fast group so they probably thought (or assumed) you had experience of group riding.

The group should really be explaining it to you to be honest. Did they not offer any advice at all? That's kind of irresponsible of them.

Should have explained they did once we got going , partially my fault as a friend who I've ridden with before suggested I came along and I assumed he told the leader I was new and he thought I had. The leaders instructions made sense but I still aren't 100 % certain how it works. Difficult to take it in when we were bombing along at 22 mph

I have experience of riding in groups of 4-5 where we just take it in turns to lead.
With 8-10 people it took me by surprise when I was at the front they said change and some had to tell me what to do. After that group leader explained things and said he hand't noticed me.

It was a last minute Facebook thing otherwise I'd of researched it a bit more, was good fun and intend to sign up. Which is the reason for the original question :)

The other guy should slow a little to let you move over. The idea is that the speed of the guys coming forward should be consistent.
It doesnt always happen like that, sometimes you need to speed up a little to get in front.
Whatever you do, just keep it smooth and dont make sudden changes of pace.

Fairly pleasant morning spannering the bike in the garden in the sunshine!

I gave it a clean up after the bad weather last week, gave everything an adjust and fitted my indexed levers - see second picture. This frame doesn't have brazed-on shifter bosses, so I had to get a NOS Shimano band-on indexed set which comes with cheapo resin shifters and swap the levers for my Exage ones.

You should venture out of central London a little. Not all the roads are good :P

Mind you I'm down in East Sussex this weekend and the roads are terrible by general comparison to London.

Castelli alpha is the new daddy apparently!

There are a lot of videos on GCN about how to ride in a group, and general group riding etiquette. What formation was it?

See, in our steady pace bunch, we tend to cycle in twos like in the Double Pace Line in that diagram, but when you spell up you don't pull away one rider to each side. The guy on the opposite side to where the wind is coming from speeds up very slightly and moves across in front of the guy he's been riding with, they then both ease off the pace to let the bunch come past (the bunch shouldn't have to change pace at all) while they both then slide slowly to the back of the line.

When it's faster paced rides, we tend to use either of the other two in the diagram. Our APR groups tend to chaingang, like in the Circular Pace Line diagram. Or if things get really strung out on our saturday morning runs, it's more like the single file pace line - each person doing a hard 30-60 sec pull on the front and then dropping back.
