And by sometimes, I assume you mean always ;)

There's little value in blowing up on a climb, given that it can take around 3-4 times the length of time you spend blowing up to recover. Take a 5 minute climb too hard and you can lose 20 minutes recovering.

Not always, I find I can power up some climbs and then not really need to recover so no dropping of speed! ;)

Other times I can 'semi-blow' then sit and grind (like the climb I linked) then recover enough to stand again rather than grinding all the way up. Guess that comes from me doing some hard rides and pushing nearly all the way to stay in touch?

I had an 'interesting' commute home last night, I stupidly decided to cycle with 2 backpacks. Started off 1 front and 1 back, soon gave that up (too much weight in front banging my knees!) and adjusted straps to carry both on my back like a camel... Great for some strength training as must've been carrying 12kg or more! Lots of headwinds too so wasn't breaking any speed records but don't think I'll repeat that in a hurry lol ;)

Yerp, mine are bibless. Don't seem to get on with bibs.

I got some straight Aeron ones as well (ie not Pro, Active etc) to compare the difference and the shorts are different but the pad itself is identical.

Ahhh fair enough, I've never had a problem with the pads in mine but with them generally being tights I've not done long rides just a majority of commuting. Will be soon to get them out again! :o:(

Hmm so my new pedals (look keo plus) and shoes (mavic ksyrium elite)... fine when seated but when I was standing on the pedals they Juuust rubbed/scuffed the crank arms...
Everything's not with me now, but is there any lateral adjustment possible with SPD-SL cleats? or anything I can do to make it not happen.

Look keo pedals are not SPD-SL they're Keo (although quite similar)... Also mavic ksyrium are wheels not shoes, so which shoes do you have and we can investigate! :)

There is usually some lateral adjustment with cleats but it won't be much, a couple of mm with SPD/SPD-SL.

Finger slipped in the rapha sale, some good deals to be had now it's 50% off, got another pro team jersey and matching socks. Extra 10% off with code sale10 from today.

Cheers for the code! (& Pauls!)

I like Rapha jerseys and jackets from a fit, style and performance point of view. Their shorts are nothing special in my opinion though. Castelli and Assos are more comfortable (for my arse).

Club training ride tonight. Rode way too hard on the way out and got dropped after joining in with the fast group for a while, closing a gap to a break and wheeling about then blowing spectacularly.

Good times. 3 minutes down come the end.

You killed yourself shutting down that break yourself. You should have just come through and upped the pace but let some others come help, as right after you went Colin, Stuart and I put a wee burst in and brought it back by the descent from the border anyway. It was just constant attacks like that on the way in but it makes things a lot easier trying to bring them back as a group - although kudos on bridging across yourself cos you were hammering it! I couldn't get on your wheel.

I got a good position up that last ramp to the bridge and thought i was sat in a good spot 3rd wheel coming into the sprint, but then Kyle and Rhuari went blazing past like i was stood still. :D

My ride home after was sketchy with only a wee flashing front light. Was pretty dark by the time i got there. Summer definitely over now then. :(

I had a pair of Castellis which the pad (X2) fell apart after 12 months. Castelli put me onto wiggle who refunded me which was lucky. The scorpion badge logo split apart quickly but this was just cosmetic.

I found the Assos pad to be a bit thick and the black faded very quickly making them look old and cheap. Nice leg grips, but the design is very similar to Raphas.

The Rapha Pro Teams are probably the best of both, but they do have a seam that was noticeable at first right down the middle of the groin but after a couple of wears/washes has gone. Good leg grips and pad and are holding up well after 6 months use of at least one wash a week.

Overall all my Rapha kit has held up well to regular use, no fading or stitching coming apart and presents as new. My pro team base has discoloured a little at the neck from sweat/sun cream but it is white and I've had it a couple of years now.

Aye, those!
And the look cleats - grey, so that's what? 4mm of float? Standard efforts, I think. I have them in my car now so I'll investigate at lunchtime.
Hmm no I was getting confused with mavic cleats vs look ones. I thought mine had an adjustable Q factor - but that's mavic ones. How confusing.

I wonder if they're compatible [apparently not]. It's not my heel that's rubbing on the crank, just the inside of the widest part of my foot. Just enough that I can feel it, but again it's only when I'm standing on the pedals and the bike's waving around.

To be fair your kit probably sees a lot harder use than mine!:p
I guess I can't comment too much on long-term durability yet but was more talking about pad comfort for longer rides.

Assos and Castelli have their own proprietary pads whilst Rapha uses Cytech pads which are the same as those used in dhb (albeit they use the higher tier ones).

@Roady, not sure if you grabbed the Team Sky Merino Jersey I posted but It was posted the other day and well it's lovely, looks great. Definitely more casual wear than cycling but could make a decent base layer in the winter!

Naaah I snoozed and lost out, there was only Small left in stock when I last looked, now totally out of stock! Shame as I'd have loved a medium/large! :)

My bad! Although it doesn't say they look like '3 bolt' shoes - so compatible with SPD-SL and as Look Keo is similar fitting I'm guessing they should be compatible...

Basically Jono, I don't think you should be getting significant crank rub unless you are very 'duck footed' in the way your cleats are setup... But I'm no expert! :)

Good point, one thing to check then about the DHB Aeron and Aeron Pro (or any 'normal' DHB compared to 'Pro') - the pad difference. I'm hoping that the 'Pro/Race' ranges have the higher rated cy pads.

looks like summer is over, and my cycling of summer didn't happen :(
still having problems with back now its gone to my Hip :(

trying to find a Pilates course that I can do...

My rapha pro team shorts are the most comfortable I have, just got the lightweight pro but only ridden them once so far. Think they need a bit of wearing in.

Not tried castelli but got assos and while comfy the pad is quite chunky and the legs are a bit shorter or just seem tighter. (obviously my massive sprinters thighs...)

Had to bail out if ride with a few mates today. Weather looked dire and not been feeling great yesterday and overnight. Great week to book off to enjoy cycling...

I know the feeling! It's been chucking it down this week mostly. Should be able to get out for long rides the next 3 days though.

Annoyingly I had to write-off two days just waiting for delivery of my damn bike bag. Finally it arrived this morning. I went for the Evoc soft case.

Gah! Still getting any Physio? They would normally give you some exercises to continue increasing your flexibility & core strength. Hope you get it sorted mate as the good days are getting numbered this year!

Side note: how have you found the 6600K? What did you upgrade from and what clockspeeds? I'm stuck trying to decide if my 2700K @4.6 is worth upgrading (probably not as it will do 5.2 for benching...)!

Ahhh was sure I'd seen something like that somewhere, didn't spot it on the aeron's I looked at.
