a lot of the "sealed bearings" (just "bearings" in any other field) that you get on bikes would probably be more at home in a photocopier. Oftentimes, they don't have enough grease in to start with.
a mate of mine is insistent on popping the seals and repacking them before he ever uses them in most cases.
Is this hard to do? I'm really suspicious about my rear wheel (see video above for noises) as it has always been significantly noisier than any other bike wheel I've owned - admittedly that's only 4 other much cheaper bikes.
Would you expect a new Giant Defy wheel to make more noise than cheap Apollo's and Carrera's? Would you expect the rear wheel to make significantly more noise than the front (disregarding chain noise & freewheel)?
Ordered up the Jobsworth toolkit and I've also ordered up another chain on the offchance that i do need to replace it. Looked at it again after yesterday's first clean and there are still some rusty parts. The rear cassette came up well though so don't think that needs replacing at the moment. I'll give the chain another clean this evening and see how it looks after.
I found a spray a chain cleaned followed by a good soak in some of the juice lubes (diluted) along with a good scrub cleared 8 months worth of encrusted black 'road gravy' from my old chain, it wasn't really rusty though (as had kept it well lubed). The hardest thing with cleaning chains and cassettes is spending enough time doing it, it's a time consuming boring job but I find with some music on, latex gloves and slightly warmed water makes it much more bearable.
5 months doesn't seem a reasonable length of time. Fire up the statutory rights!
Agreed, at the very least they should offer to send you replacement bearings as I don't think they're expensive are they? Certainly much cheaper (and easier for you) than you sending the wheel back or them to service and repair.
Nothing to report on this mornings commute, a lot less windy and warmer than yesterdays!
My jersey & sock order arrived from Wiggle, I took a punt on a
MTB style jersey (it was £10) but it's too big and has no rear grippers... I was in 2 minds what to do about it as it does look good, but the smaller size are not available (unless I go for green
)!
DHB Windslam jersey fits perfect (Large) and feels great, can't wait to try it out (possibly this weekend...)
DHB Light Weight Cycling Sock 14cm feel good but several seams so need a ride or two with them before ordering more. My PlanetX merino thickys feel more comfortable (and less seams...) so I may try the thinner version of them instead.
So, my new DHB Turbulence jacket arrived in medium. Seems fairly snug though certainly not race-tight. Plenty of space to fit some merino base layers beneath it if I feel the need.
Hopefully it will do the job of keeping the wind and light rain off for my commuting and I can stop carrying this super heavy un-aero jacket with me all the time.
Will be interested to see what you think of it mate, what were you using before?
10 minute power PB up the climb for me this morning.
379w
got half way up and was smiling to myself as I felt good and the numbers looked good. By the top I was ready to puke.
Nice work, should've pushed harder (& puked) to get the 400W
checked my chain wear, after 3.6k all weather miles it's at 0.75, time to replace but 3.6k out of a chain is good going IMO!
Good going with your riding/crashing!
