Finished this off today, measured up to be the same as his AR2.

Wheels are fully dark rather than the shiny bits due to the flash!

Two pretty similar bikes, he does have an F4 as a crap weather bike though.

Tuesday 6 September. The stage runs from Congleton to Tatton Park. I've got the day off work and fingers crossed the weather will be on my side so I can really make a day of it. Last year I did 84 miles seeing it up near Skipton, this year will be even longer.

Hmm..I might be able to book that off. If you fancy company closer to the time let me know :)

Well, despite being 4kg heavier than one of my previous attempts I was over 2 minutes quicker up Mow Cop today :o It felt pretty painful but I still had a little left in the tank. If I can shift the rest of this weight I might give it another go towards the end of summer and maybe even beat OMS's time :p

Got a pic of uv and another friend as they they came up behind me too :p

Good work, I had to walk up the last stretch when I last went up there on NYE so have unfinished business with it. I blame the headwind I had to fight all the way out. Flew home after at least but it's not my favourite climb!

It's actually not that rough until half way up when it becomes almost unridable, but it's only for a short section.

I've still never been up there. I've cycled past a few times but I absolutely hate cobbles. One day I'll bother. Maybe I'll get my old steel bike with the stock wheels I don't care about and go up it with that :)

You went up there on NYE?! I'm guessing that acronym isn't what I think it is :p

Dan that was with us today is normally an absolute monster on hills but he's recovering from his collar bone injury (had the plate they put in removed a couple of weeks ago). Normally he'd have beaten me up there whilst looking annoyingly like he wasn't even trying. We took it quite slowly before and after due to that really. Then we randomly stopped following our route and went down loads of weird back streets/dirt paths. Not the fastest way to get home :p but interesting anyhow.

End result anyhow was that I was probably way more rested for it than I normally would be :)

Going out tomorrow morning with some guys for some hill climbing...but the road bike is out of action (waiting on some gear cables) so i'm taking the singlespeed....what on earth am i thinking :D:D:D

New Year's Eve? I'm trying to think of alternative filthy acronyms now. :p

I think you're right...:p Can't remember the spec of the singlespeed (its just my town bike) but if i had to guess it feels about 46/15 :(:(

EDIT: Lord have mercy, I've just checked...its 46/16 ( I'm impressed with how close i was! :p )

Ouch  I really don't envy you :p

Normally I could be relied on to come up with something bawdy ;) but in this case it was more shock over the idea of riding up there (more the down bit actually) on NYE. Wasn't it pretty icy?

46*16 is pretty tall! That'll be tough on any appreciable slopes.

Glad to hear it's not just me has been beaten by climbs...

I've never done Mow Cop. It's well out of the way for me, so any ride there would be quite a lengthy affair.

Cool, I'll give you a shout nearer the time. I've got a decent route plotted out which takes in a few decent bits of road in the area, and it comes pretty close to you so we could meet up easily enough.

I got out for 27 miles this morning. I was planning to do a bit more than that but... I overslept after staying up to watch the end of Eurovision. I went old school and followed the route of my first road bike ride that my neighbour took me on back in 2012. Average speed then: 13.7mph. Average speed today: 16.5mph. I did it all in the big ring as well, and managed not to crash over the bars into a thorn bush, which is something I did back then.

Lots of cyclists out this morning. I got passed by a rider on a TT bike who then crawled up a hill tantalisingly close in front of me at like 12mph while on the middle TT bars, whatever they're called. Seemed a bit odd. There were also loads of signs for a wiggle sportive, not sure which one, so I guess it'll be busy today. I was a bit concerned for their route, as it was making to cross the a6 st one point, but both the crossing points near there involve long steep downhills that then abruptly cross the a6 which I think is NSL on that stretch. That could be nasty with sportive groups coming through there.

Riding a lot of single speed is a mixed blessing. On the one hand you get used to grinding it out from time to time. On the other hand sometimes it's easy to forget you have gears and could change into something more comfortable and spin a bit more!

Also, respect to the person who's named a segment that ends at Chew Moor Lane "Punch it Chewie!"
